Cognitive science really has taken a turn for the worse

south korea, japan, and germany have the highest nat avg iqs of any countries

and they HAPPEN TO ALSO be the best 3 countries in the world at engineering...

china and se asia lag 5-10 points behind s kor and japan, which is why their engineering is not as good if not shit..

iq means alot, but physics ability is a better judge of g (general intelligence)

What are some reliable IQ tests and their cost?

I've just realised that, my childhood, up until I was like 20, was wasted by distractions and video games and I basically wasted my own fucking time - then I look at literally anyone who's achieved anything ever, none of them started late, they had always been interested in their field and excelled at it.

Is there even any point? I want to be good at Computer Science but how can I bring something to the table when there's all these people who have been programming since 10, can I even compete?

I grew up in a shit neighbourhood and video games were just a way to escape my shit life, now that I'm at Uni studying Cs, I am getting lapped by these guys who are just so quick, so practised and efficient - people who have refined their skills over years. Is there even any point /sci/ ? I don't even feel like I belong here, and my Uni isn't even that good on the global level (St Andrews, Scotland)... but it's a facade isn't it really, nobody is going to be the next Bill Gates without their whole upbringing having put them in a favourable position so by the time they were whatever age they had the skills necessary to really succeed in their field

What I'm saying is, is why not just give up? I'll never be the best, I will never even get close

m8 most people with half a brain feel like that at some point

I say that as someone who's been programming since I was 12.

How old are you now? You must be very old....
You're lazy. Unless you're going to die tomorrow, next week, month or year nothing is stopping you from becoming what you want. Just do it.

So i just heard the oldest woman has died today at the age of 116 with another leading behind her now.

I always hear women being the ones to live for exceptionally long time. And as a guy, I kind of don't want to die at the age of 70 or so. My last few grandparents have went this way already. This was probably due to their diet growing up since it was mostly death by strokes. Yes, I'm black. I did sort of ate what they ate in my younger childhood, but I always tended to eat healthier cause well, school taught me that the five food groups, avoid saturated fats, and eats lots of fruits and vegetables, something my family didn't do much. Currently, I live a pretty good life. I work out at the gym while I spend the remainder of my days working at the computer or walking about. However, as I approach 30, I start to worry if any of my family problems will catch up to me, despite me living pretty healthy. Will I start having heart problems? Will I get hit by something that'll make it so I never can make it to that 100? Or maybe I do have a chance to at least get there by changing my lifestyle to something more conservative?

What do you guys think? Is women living longer a product of their body compositions or living qualities?

Longevity is a bit more complicated (and obviously an unsolved problem) than just "staying healthy". For example intense calorie restriction can help with longevity, but it's definitely not healthy in the short term.

Your grandparents dying at ~70 is pretty good conisidering that generation had the most retarded lifestyle.

You will probably live well past 70 if you keep up the exercise and dieting, what you really need to worry about is if you'll still have your mind and health by then. Being old fucking sucks.
>>
>>8083594
When I'm idling, I sometimes do wonder if my mental health would still be the same at that age. My one fear is my consciousness fading away, which is also why I fear death. And being old puts you on the border of that. Which also makes if that research for preserving brain health will come around in the next twenty years. I don't want to lose all I know or who I am.
>>
>>8083599
I have the same fears. What's fucked up is that we don't really understand it all.

I have a professor who's getting close to 90, he still smokes a pack of cigarrettes per day. In the 4 years I've known him the man was sharper than anyone else in the faculty, not only his work, but his wit in general conversation.

This year something suddenly changed inside him. He doesn't have any health issues, but talking to him you can clearly tell that his mind is starting to fade.

I'm scared guys ;_;

Is there a index that would indicate how much country take immigrants in a year without suffering social welfare damage?
24 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
first you need a model for the impact of immigrants on social welfare
to do that you first need to model the social welfare function
good luck with that
>>
Im not looking specificly on social welfare, is there any index that would just indicate "This country can take this x of migrants in a year, because they can"

Hello /sci/ I need help with the problem in the picture. I need to show that this equality is true with the given value Gamma(1/2)=sqrt(pi).
Now where do I even begin with this? I've only found a post at

http://math.stackexchange.com/questions/1154366/gamma-function-proof-of-gamma-%CE%931-2-sqrt-pi

but it doesn't really help me. Any hints here please? Thanks.

With your given value, n is 0. Just plug in and remember 0! is defined as 1.

if you want your mind blown every time, just watch their Relativity playlist.
Every video starts with things everybody knows and builds up to amazing stuff.

I've been an arse and left studying very last minute for a fluid mechanics exam. Pic related are the topics that appeared in the past four years, and I have attached the past papers in question.

Is it at all possible that I can pass this exam I have in under 24 hours time? Does anyone know of any good guides or videos I could use? Any help at all.

I need to get 47% in the exam to pass.

So, since /sci/ is my main board, but I´m (honestly speaking) a brainlet, let´s have a thread about geology, especially about collecting minerals and gems.
So tell me what do you have, what do you want to get and so on. I´m very interested.
