I study physics and will be applying to Cambridge in a years time.

What extracurriculars can I do for Physics?

if I was an engineer i could build stuff in my free time, if I was an artist I could paint stuff or visit galleries, but what physics related personal projects can I undertake to boost my UCAS form?

It doesn't really matter. Just know your shit. Also, go for Oxford if you want just pure physics without any chem shit.

NO

Noise / Instrument error

The way the light intensity / time curves fluctuates is pretty random and erratic. You would think advanced aliens would have some sense of order if they had built superstructures around the star's orbit.
>>
what if Dark Matter was actually aliums megastructures with some kind of invisibility field?
It seems obvious that any advance civilazation doesn't want to be found by civilizations too different from itself for coexistence

Hey I am looking for Huffman algorithm implementation on ternary tree.

Why hasn't some chemist come up with a clean burning alternative that would work in existing engines? They'd be set for life

Sure, just combine O2 and H2 in your car and report back.

If it doesn't work, you can take it up with GM, Chrysler, etc. Why oh why haven't they brought this to market?

Why can't we create something that provides vast amounts of energy with no negative ramifications?

Wasn't there a guy who did just that and then was offered by oil companies a million dollars or so to keep his technology to himself and when he rejected the money he was assasinated and all of his notes and diagrams suddenly went missing?

Is perpetual motion with magnets possible? If so, I would very much like to make a mini generator for a self-powering robotic insect-on-wheels type thing. I have seen some youtube videos, not sure if I believe, but if someone knows of an easy to recreate design that is/can be made small that would be great. I know I can use solar power but this would be better.

Whether porn causes any social changes is something you could possibly debate, but I don't understand how seeing a naked woman would make you smarter/stupider.

And unmarried people fap in every society. I'd be willing to bet at least 90-95% of historically significant researchers did (outside of a handful of autismal oddities like Paul Erdos)

To the anons that are doing their PhDs, post docs, are on a tenure track, or are tenured: Please share stories from Academia such as what you enjoy about it, interesting stuff, drama, what you did to succeed if you got tenure, etc.

Also I guess /Academia General/.

I saw a guy at a party this weekend, he was 30+, still a postdoc and spent his days working and drinking beer.
I just realized this could very well be me in a few years and it really scared me.
Not that I would mind spending my days working and drinking beer so much but the mere idea of being content with being a postdoc at 31 seems really sad
