'Do you think,' said Caesar, 'I have not just cause to weep, when I consider that Alexander at my age had conquered so many nations, and I have all this time done nothing that is memorable?'
you can do it, anon!
>>7782711
I think of this quote all the time....
Sadly we live in a much different time than he did...
>>7782711
based Caesar, I weeped as well when I read that chapter

If you inherit the kingdom of your father who was already planning an invasion of Persia, then sure.
/sci/ I need help
I'm writing an abstract for a research proposal and my PI told me to include something about Detailed Characterization. I didn't want to ask her what that was, because I'm sure she already thinks I'm stupid. So I come to you for help.
tl;dr what is detailed characterization.
>>7782682
it might help if you provided some context - what do you work on?
If it involves some kind of biochemistry/biology then 'detailed characterization' likely means that working out the structure of some macromolecule like a protein was an important part of the project.
Read some abstracts of papers previously published by your PI.
Will they ever learn?

Don't see how having to duck when walking in a door makes you master race, if anything, being in the Goldilocks zone of height would make you master race. You're just a gangly freak.

Alright /sci/, I am looking to get into mathematics that is oriented toward cryptography. Understanding discrete mathematics that would be relevant, and things such as SHA, MD5, and Blowfish etc.

>Digimon Movie
I loved that shit.
Take a number theory course first. Basically all we did in mine was stuff with modular arithmetic and then we touched on some more abstract number theory using groups
>>7782503
algebraic number theory. so take an introductory class / book in Algebra and Number Theory and go from there
So, is it possible to dump nonessential cortical functions and repurpose the relevant brain sectors for extra cognitive ability?
Would you achieve a 1:1 performance gain from the recruited brain sectors or would there be some inefficiency due to them being specialised for a task other than what they're being used for?
>>7782385
Bamp
>>7782385
Brain regions are not just generic cpus you can arbitrarily subdivide and repurpose for other tasks, many are quite specialized in their arrangement and have a limited spectrum of usefulness. Some can learn to perform different functions over time, some cannot.
You also have to consider what is connected to what, the layout of white matter tracts, how this relates to the whole, etc. Look into pyramidal cells is you want a starting point to see what I mean.

Localization model is obsolete and false
Science Question: Would there be any negative effects of snorting crushed up salted almonds?
No negative effects except an increased sexual performance and greater intelligence.
if they are activated, it will stimulate your electrolyte production and provide a small temporary boost to your endurance
if the almonds you are snorting are not activated, you will die within 12 hours of inhalation
>>7782376
Yes. It can lead to an extreme chronic infection that can only be fixed with multiple surgeries and a soup of antibiotics.
How high is your IQ?
What was it before?
How much of a meme is mensa?
i heard that lolis help increase your IQ by 100 points alone. is this why almost ever nobel laureate is a pedophile? they harness the brain energy produced by little girls?
>>7782369
Mine was 132 when I was in 4th grade. Never had it checked after that. I had to attend some shitty gifted class. Three was only 3 of us in it. It consisted of typing games on some apple computer (early 1990s.) Turns out the class was a joke and only existed to get money kickbacks for the sports department.
One other kid I went to school with had an IQ of 200. Only....he was the worst social reject you've ever seen. 0 friends, awkward as fuck, highly autistic-acting, 0 social skills, completely worthless...

Engineers/Physicists - is there a technical word to describe "angular oscillation", such as that which occurs with the brush on an electric toothbrush?
to clarify - that is back-and-fourth rotation - I was thinking of libration but I am pretty sure this is not quite... correct
>>7782362
Probably "rotary oscillation".
Is there a closed 3 dimensional shape with 3 flat faces?
>>7782351
not in a flat space

An infinitely long triangular prism.
Hey /sci/ I'm an alien fanatic
Not the type of fanatic that lives in an RV in yellow stone pod casting my "findings" to the internet. I'm just really fucking intrigued about the idea of aliens.
I could ramble on all day but I want to know /sci/'s opinion on aliens.
Inb4 aliens are memes.
>>7782270
I'm not looking for poorly written creepy pastas about aliens, I want some insight into what other people think of aliens.

lets build a spaceship guys.. using any current tech right now lets design from the bottom up, a ship that can handle radiation micrometeorites and all that hazardous shit..

A if B means B implies A
A only if B means B implies A
why does A if and only if B mean something different?
Seriously I'm supposed to be good at math but I'm having autism problems
>>7782181
A only if B means A implies B.
>>7782192
but you might say "I'll go to the park only if I have shoes" or something, right?
I'm sure they're synonymous in normal usage
>>7782201
Right, that means you won't go to the park unless you have shoes. So if you do go it implies you do have shoes.
The Earth is not a convex sphere drifting through space.
The Earth is concave.
Prove me wrong.
I knew it couldn't be done.
>>7782059
What am I looking at?
I don't understand. Are you stating that the earth would show any sort of curve on the surface after only 456 ft?
