Is there any reason preventing humans from living in a 80helium/20oxygen environment? The N2 is inert anyway, so...?
what about 80% marijuana ??? xd
>>7741487
Helium will evaporate quickly/float on top of the oxygen and leave you with a 100% oxygen layer, which will burn everything to a nice crisp the moment someone sneezes.
>>7741487
Not really! In fact that mixture is called heliox. Look it up.
Do you prefer to use pen or pencils for your science classes?
>>7740966
pentel p209 mechanical pencil
i really dislike the ink smell and it annoys me too much. mechanical pencil is very easy to use and lasts a long time.
A bunch of orange pencils.
>>7740969
>ink smell
what fuckin pens are you using mate that's fucked I can't smell shit even when I bring it right up to my nose
How can we advance science /sci/?
Let's advance science in this thread.
>>7739049
We'll start by removing anyone from the gene pool who thinks we can advance science in any thread on /sci/
Should be an improvement in all regards
>>7739054
>removing /sci/ from the gene pool
Why bother?
>>7739049
I propose to kill anyone who isn't a STEM major. They're a waste of resources and always try to hinder progress.
Can humans with tetrachromacy see colors beyond the visible spectrum that are alien to us?
Or is it just easier for them to analyze simple (To us) colors into more colors that we know?
I can see extra colors like merzel and dulan
>>7737415
The latter.
Human tetrachromats' fourth cone most commonly has a peak between the standard red and green cones on your picture.
>>7737419
Sorry, i just noticed your pic is for a bird. Try this pic instead.
Human tetrachromats' fourth cone most commonly has a peak between the two right-most peaks in this pic of human cone sensitivity.
Do astronauts fuck each other in space?
Do astronauts msaturbate in space? Doesn't the flying cum damage equipment? How do they even clean it up?
Why doesn't NASA ever answer these questions?
>>7743612
It just so happens I'm the perfect guy to answer your questions, OP. You see, I'm the guy who cleans all the cum off of our valuable space equipment. You may laugh at my job, but I get to go to fucking space, so suck it.
Think: where do they urinate? Why not cum in there?
Reportedly, sex in space is hard, therefore it's been tried, but I don't know if they succeeded.
>>7743641
I don't think there's really a big difference between trying sex and succeeding at it.
1 the claim is that the universe is approx 14 billion years old. Why is this claimed as the age of the universe and not the minimum age of the universe? This number is used bc the farthest object we get light from is 14bil ly away. Why is it impossible the object traveled to get to it's position, how do we know it sits at the origin of the universe?
2 why there is a diffraction pattern for 1 slit? there is only one slit so the particles waves cannot go through 2 slits and cause diffraction
3 Why is the double slit equation from the 1930s still used today...

These are the sort of things that bother me as well, and are what a useful /sci/ would be discussing.
Unfortunately I'm worthless and can't add anything beyond that I share many of your doubts about this modern certainty we're fond of claiming.
2/3/4/5 please someone
>>7742127
>But electrons are not spherical, they're lopsided. When you "shoot" an electron, it doesn't travel straight. Is there math for this?
I though electrons had no shape or volume, were just point particles, and were accelerated by magnetic fields, they would travel in a circle until the magnetic field was shut off which would release them tangentially.
Why do we have facial hair? Why do we have head hair? Why does head hair block our vision naturally? Why is shaving so much more common than wearing a beard, now that we can shave?
>>7744484
head hair is to protect brain from cold
face hair probably to protect breathing, but I dont know why women dont have it then, maybe works as a testosterone indicator for mating?
most body hair is evolutionary leftover, but it is affected by testosterone, maybe an "evolutionary accident" related to beards
DA JOOS
>>7744488
Why do we not have full body hair any more anyway?
>get up on google
>search 'logic jokes'
>hit images
>get this

I feel like the older I get, the more interested I become in learning more about math. Problem is, when I was in high school I fucking hated math, which leaves me now at 27, working in IT but barely able to solve a quadratic equation.
My question to you is: how would you recommend that a soon-to-be 30 year old approaches the subject of wanting to learn about math while having a huge complex over not being smart enough and having "missed the train"? Should I just buy old high school text books (soul-murdering) and power through them, or is there literature out...

find a personal tutor if you're that interested. it's the best way of having all that information tailored to you specifically.
It's never to late to learn, man.
Can you help me with my stinky gooch?
No matter what my activity level is during the day, I find that when settling down for an evening wank, the sweaty odour from behind my nuts is noticable and unpleasant.
Since BO is caused by bacteria munching on one's secretions, is there a reliable chemical method of killing off my current flora? Something like sitting in a diluted bleach bath for a couple of hours while my inventory of underpants sits in the freezer?
I'm not expecting a complete elimination of odour for all time, but I imagine a genocide...

wear clothes that allow air movement around your swampballs
dust your junk with talcum powder
spray yourself with deoderant
>>7743746
Apply toothpaste to your balls once in the morning and keep it there all day. The fresh scent will drive away the bacteria and mask and residual odor.
cut off the goolies
Is it theoretically possible to make a light saber and how ?
>>7743634

Yes
>>7743634
You could theoretically make a plasma sword that behaves like one.
Just ask Michio Kaku
What do you think about the first human head transplant that will take place around 2017?
Will he be able to walk again or will be most likey die under the operation/ or before he fully heal? If he dont die will is it possible for your head to connect itself into the spinal cord?
>>7743418
They did this with monkeys, you won't die immediately but you'll die in the near future
>head transplant
Don't you mean body transplant?
>>7743418
Both the doctor and the patient are incredibly brave, and are exposing themselves to great risks to do something groundbreaking and revolutionary.
That said, I'd give this guy a 90% chance of not surviving the consequences of the surgery.
Can drinking this stuff decalcify my pineal gland?
I use it to dechlorinate tap water for my salamanders. The principle ingredients are: Sodium Hydroxymethane Sulfate
Chelating Compounds,
Polyvinylpyrollidones,
and Organic Hydrocolloids.

Is going into materials science a waste of time?
>>7743109
You're on 4chan, your entire life is waste of time.
>>7743112
Everyone's life is a waste of time, I just wanna make it less sufferable.
>>7743109
how is material science a waste of time? you realize that it deals with improving almost every field of science and engineering right? from electronics to optics to transportation to architecture to medicine to etc, it has applications every fucking where. if anything it's the best choice of applying solid state and condensed matter physics but not being locked into an engineering field where you aren't really capable of working outside thresholds. i'm debating on switching from computer science to it...
