Do you use them /out/?
Are they worth the money and if so are there any in particular you recommend.

I have a pair from mount laurel designs
They are good at keeping my feet dry when walking through wet brush but the boots have to come off before the gaiters go on
>>810133
pretty essential if you're going over snow deeper than 20-30 cm

I got outdoor research ones, they keep ticks out of my socks when going through think underbrush while being marginally more comfortable than high-ankle boots.
I'm lookin in amazon, does someone know some place with a better selection?
I'd like to know as well. There was an extensive thread with many vendors last month

I always use the above and its always been reliable for me.
I am camping for the summer and the bugs bight constantly. What happens if you ignore them biting you? Would there be any long term consequences? For example, someone is black out drunk and just does not feel them biting.

Yes. It's much like pic related.

I meant infections, scars, and whatnot.

You will NEVER get a whatnot from a bug!
Whatnots only come from plants, which have been giving bugs a bad name lately.

I think about this all the time.
My only hope is that science makes humans immortal in my lifetime.

I'm on a small mountain in the center of a massive national forest and somehow I have 4g reception.
I'm on Scott mountain in the Willamette natl forest, spending the night. I'll post more tomorrow if people give a shit. Sleepy time

Workin on the beach all day today, I really need to start surf fishing dammit.
Lots of work to do so let's make this quick.
Talk about fishin'
I'll repeat my question from last thread, since I didn't realize thread had hit the bump limit when I posted it.
Has anybody fished any of the streams in the Smoky Mountains before? I'm going to Gatlinburg in a couple of weeks and I'm still debating on taking my fishing shit. I've never fished for trout before so I pretty much need any tips at all.
You fucked up with OP picture. No titties or asses is bad luck. It's like a boat with no name.
I really want to get more into the outdoor / survival scene? How does one start.
Beginner here as well, please give me the wisdom

just walk. don't overcomplicate shit. just walk
Howdy guys, I'm thinking about going on a longer hike then I'm used to and want to carry the bare minimum for 7 days of hiking. But I'm trying to see what items considered essentials could be replaced by locally sourcing what you need while hiking or making it. Knowledge? Opinions? I remember watching a video and I'm pretty sure it was Matt graham and he'd just take a stone knife, some cloth, and I think a water container. Pic slightly unrelated.
Just take gear in. Very little of value can actually be made on a hike.
>>807653
Is this for a long term living solution in the wilderness?
Matters on evinronment the hike is in.
I'm going camping in 3 weeks and I need to figure out how to sleep without being in too much pain.
It's at a racetrack so no need to worry about hiking in with it.
I need something supportive but soft enough to not be painful.
Before anyone calls me a pussy, pic related is what was chiseled and hammered into my L5-S1
Thanks in advance.

Get two of these. They should be at Walmart and around $20 each I think. Stack them and you should be fine as long as everything is properly flat and solid. Things like an air mattress, I'm not really sure about because you can do some weird things on those by accident.
I recommend you consult your doctor/chiropractor too.
>>807497
I was thinking that would go good on a cot.
>>807500
Yeah, being higher off the ground makes it easier to get up. Having something to steady you as you get up should also be there, that can be a big ice chest cooler or folding chair.

How large? Just dig deeper beside them.
What do you do when you're sleeping /out/ and a thunderstorm starts?
Usually my mom runs out to the backyard with an umbrella so I can get back to the house without getting my pajamas wet.
If I'm sleeping /out/ and a thunder storm starts I'll either sleep through it or it will wake me up with it's rumblings. What the fuck kind of question is this?
Since I'm not a lightweight master race kind of guy i snuggle deeper into my sleeping bag in the middle of my tent and listen to the sound of the storm.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y70LCoK-XMA
I understand why people would complain about all that litter, but look at all that free shit! Free tents, mesh chairs, tarps, sleeping bags, air mattresses, and even some bags.
>>806308
i would be IN THAT SHIT, like holy fuck, there is probably 10k worth of camping equipment just in the areas we saw in the video! I would seriously love to scavenge an area like that after a festival, maybe i'll scope some out in the US.
Are you sure those were left behind by people?
A lot of those tents looked very similar to each other and I know that some festivals supply already made and up tents for people who pay for it.
still lots of other shit left back there.
>>806325
They were left. I work there every year and its always the same. They've started donating them to the jungle in Calais and that but it would be nice if people didn't leave them in such a state. I've taken a few things here and there before but its hard to salvage when you're already carrying all your kit and don't have a car.
hey sc/out/s
ive been noticing some species of bird i have not recognized before and was wondering if anyone could help?
bird is pictured, taken in independence, mo.
maybe other /out/ties can post pictures theyve taken and we can all help eachother.
it's a Casuarius
I can tell by the tilt of your pic
I'm sorry, I'm not very familiar with Australian wildlife.
why no light backpack?????
i only carry a mora and water
I go naked and only carry a Mora
Makes rapes go so much easier
I make fun of women and obly carry a mora.
>>803590
this makes me wonder how should your pack be configured?
should I be carrying most of the weight on the hips? should the bag be bottom heavy? what level should the hip strap be at, belt level or higher?
