How to get better at math proofs?
I've read several books about proofs, and I'm rather good at them, but I'm wondering whether I could become even better by committing some general rules and heuristics to memory.
I already know the different proof methods - I need to learn how to speed up the process and be more effective.

Your pic related is shit fyi.
If you're proving that two things are equal, then rely on the antisymmetry of an available order relation to get you through.
For example, to show that o(a)=n for an element of a group, say a, first show that o(a) <= n and then show o(a)>=n. Also, a much more common example is to show that two sets are equal by showing that they are mutual subsets.
If there is a statement about every element of an inductive set (not necessarily just the natural numbers,) then...

Thanks, this helped.

op just follow an appropriately leveled textbook on a subject youre interested in learning and work through exercises and proofs given
Any tips for studying and gettin work done? I don't believe you actually need to study 10 hours a day or something like that if you do it right. Tips for example to save time or to stay more focused.
I'm a lot more focused at the library. I can't concentrate for shit at home or in cafés. Maybe make a study plan, give yourself breaks, reward yourself after you've finished something.

Em?
Let's take you go and start swimming in pic related or go inside Chernobyl plant without a suit
how do you feel in the begining?
what do you feel? heat?
how long does it take until you pass out?
how is your death?

You could swim in that with no ill effects whatsoever unless you got close to the bottom.
>>7951760
there would be no swimming in chernobyl, the core melted down and is a radioactive lump. You would taste metal, pass out, then the lining of your stomach would slough and your eyes would bleed. Eventually you would die.
Well, /sci/ ?

I'm supposed to take this exam about 28 days from now. Problem is I'm only half way through this book.
Can anyone who's recently taken this tell me how tough this exam is? I'm only halfway through the review book and beginning to panic.
Background info: I got a BS in EE at the end of spring 2015.
>>7951591
It's been all this time and you still haven't taken the FE? Do you have job?
>>7951591
its all junior/sophomore level shit. they straight up tell you what the breakout is in terms of number of questions for each topic.
EE has the worst pass rate for FE/PE exams though, good luck.
I've worked with basic feed forward neural networks with backpropagation. But I'm having difficulty understanding convolutional neural networks.
I'd like to try making a small character recognition program.
Here's a picture I was annoyed by the absence of when I read about the topic. The idea of a convolutional net is to have each neuron only look at the neurons spatially close to it in the layer above it, and for the neurons of each layer only to be of a small-ish number of types which share the same receiving parameters. I think other approaches are more popular for character image recognition now, but apparently you can make a mean go bot with them.
>>7951793
That's not really how it works.
I'd check this out:

Ignoring the boring stuff like sampling it says what I said. I pushed the neuron analogy a little further though. In its language each filter corresponds to a different kind of neuron in my language, and the connecting parameters for each kind of neuron corresponds to the matrix entries in the filter.

What the fuck is wrong with all you educated dumb-asses. Why am I still a manlet? you niggers need to make me taller.
this is a troll thread but people whow ant "cures" for being short are retards. It will make life worse for you. An easy simple cure comes out but it costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, now your shortness is looked down on as something you can change even though you are still unable to do it.

I guess science has failed.

Hi /fit/.
But really, out of curiosity, will we be able to change our height in the future or is breaking your legs for 50k the ultimate deal? I mean, us there some research on bones enlargment or in surgery techniques that would make it possible?
Is this how a CRT TV really works or is the video fake?

Not quite, what you can't see is that it's only rendering every other horizontal line on each vertical sweep. The fading afterglow is from the phosphorous screen.
Isn't this common knowledge or are you underage?

How does /sci/ feel about econometrics? Meme science or the most important practical application of mathematics in recent time?
I personally tend toward the latter but I'm not fully convinced.
>>7951288
what does it do?
>>7952491
You.
>>7952491
It's just regression analysis with multiple independent variables. Ex: how much do race, age, and geography explain income?
Why dont function definitions such as f(x,y) = xy
use := instead
It's often used in theorems or beginnings of proofs, not really much use using it all the time
>>7951274
why would we want that?

Because CS majors are faggots and "≝" and "≡" already exists
Hey faggots, I started learning maths from the beginning a while back with the intention of learning calc. I'm not far away now. I can recall people on here saying that trig is one of the most important components and that is where people go wrong. I'm doing trig now, just learned the unit circle definition of trig ratios. What is it that I specifically need to pay attention to?
T-thanks.
Come on you geniuses, help a brother out.
>>7951233

Everything
>>7951357
I am doing. But what is it specifically that stumps people?
Too much fapping is causing me a lot of pain in my wrist and hand- particularly my index finger.
Do any of you nerds know of any good stretches or exercises to counteract the muscular imbalances caused by chronic masturbation?

What muscle is used to grip the dick in your hand? That muscle in particular hurts like shit.
your wrists must be shit if they get damaged from jacking off
Most card games use 5 card hands. I've heard a certain designer theorize that this is because most people can only focus on 5-8 items at a time without chunking so games with small hands are easier for new players to pick up and consequently stay popular.
Do you think this can be somehow applied to figuring out the optimal size for the board of a Chess-like game? Is there any research on this? I imagine that even beginners don't treat each square as A Thing and chunk space, but with what method?
doubt it. those card games are based on probability and having higher or lower cards will change the ratio of the probability of having a playable set or not drastically
>>7951123
You can adjust the game so it works as intended with bigger or smaller hands and correspondingly bigger or smaller decks. Some modern card games, such as Dominion, can have you drawing 20 cards a turn. I suspect that there is more to the magic number that is 5.
>>7951112
You have five fingers on your hand, so five cards...
