Econometrics is incredibly useful, but there seems to be a trend to design incredibly specific, complex estimation methods that really blur empirical findings and can be fucked around with till you get some kind of result.

I use Econometrics all the time, but ultimately you still need solid Economic thinking to produce interesting, valid hypotheses.
