You could swim in that with no ill effects whatsoever unless you got close to the bottom.

there would be no swimming in chernobyl, the core melted down and is a radioactive lump. You would taste metal, pass out, then the lining of your stomach would slough and your eyes would bleed. Eventually you would die.

he's right tho. why do you think water is used as a moderator in LWRs? the mean lifetime of a neutron in a typical reactor is like 10^-4 sec. diffusion length on the order of 2-3 cm. you'd be perfectly safe swimming in a reactor spent fuel pool, you'd just be dead from gun shot wounds before you made it there.
