So me and a friend are heading to Estonia to work on a farm for a few months near the Russian border. We get the weekends to ourselves and were wondering what we can get up to in this exotic land, any ideas?

Fuck I've always wanted to try that but the ferns in australia are all poisonous. As for what I've eaten it's probably only been dandelion and purslane.

Cattails, a bunch of flowers, licorice root, clover. Cattails are my favorite though. Mild and lightly crunchy. I'll also chew on willow bark if I'm out and about and have a nasty headache. Tastes gross but it works just fine.

Wild berries too. There's a bazillion different species where I live.

What's a piece of kit you like to always take /out/ with you that might not be on everyone's list?

Does anyone get depressed after being out?

I just got back from a two day fishing trip. It didnt take long for me to see politics, idiot college kids, angry people, retarded tv shows. Just basically culture and society. It made me really depressed because i got detached from all that when i was out... now im feelin the feels

Yes. It happens to me after everything intensely fun or calming too.

Is the beach a good bug out location? I live on the coast where there are miles of untouched coastline, what are the downsides of staying on the coast in the dunes?

Jumping, bitey sand fleas. The itching is unbearable. Also, sand everywhere. You and everything you love will be covered with sand at all times. When the wind blows you'll even have sand in your eyes. And rotting, desiccated sea life. Seaweed, ocean creatures all constantly rotting. The ocean is full of life and so is the sand. You will be surrounded at all times by things that are interested in eating you, living on or in you and things that are just plain disgusting. The ocean is great to visit, but eventually you're going to want to get the hell off the beach and get clean.

I'm looking into trekking with two buddies this next summer, but I'm missing some gear (everything) for the trip. It's probably only going to be a week or so, maybe two.

Now the thing is, I have a tight budget. I have to prioritise some things. Just now I found this seemingly large old backpack on ebay, and I was considering if it would be good enough for the trip. I just wanted to know if any of you have any experience with these types of bags? If they are complete shit I'll just get an Osprey Atmos, although then I have to budget something else.

The...

I'm planning to make a sort of field guide for something I'm involved in and I'm looking to find page protectors for small binders. Exactly what it's for matters little though since I'll likely use the supplies for other projects as well. This doesn't need to be heavy duty, I'd just like to be able to get a good amount of them for a decent price.

Currently I am looking at getting one of the small binder kits from Rite in the Rain (I have a few of their products already and I am pleased with them) but they don't sell basic page protectors,...

What's the scale of this project? Would printing on Tyvek be an option?
>>
>>718846
It's honestly rather small. Mostly for a handful of friends and myself. And if it goes much beyond that I run the risk of dealing with copyright issues since I don't own the material I'll be putting into this guide. Assuming I don't fuck up the formatting, I don't expect this to get anywhere near 50 pages per guide, and assuming everyone wants one it'll be 7 books total.
>>
>>718846
>>718852
Oh, and considering I may have to add pages and/or reformat over time, it'd be better if I can print on standard paper and just swap the pages out of page protectors.

hey /out/.

so this is probably a rather random/esoteric gear recommendation... but i'm looking for a water bottle that's good with atmospheric pressure changes.

so i fly jets in the military and i'm still enough of a Californian that the fact that i bring disposable water bottles on flights irritates me. the bag i have that holds all the checklists and such that i fly with has a convenient water bottle pocket that fits a regular disposable bottle. the thin plastic is not really that great at the pressure changes as evidenced by the half-crumpled...

Gonna spend my dividend on Trekking Poles, because that's the only piece of gear I don't have.

What am I looking for in a good pair of poles? I know I want cork handles, but other than that what makes a good trek pole? Anybody have a recommendation (has to be sold at REI)?

you want flick locks or tent/z pole style. get all the attachments when you buy the poles. i quite like my black diamond carbon z's.
>>
get flick lock, twist lock is unreliable when it's wet (rain or snow). get snow baskets if you need them. aluminum poles are generally better if you're a heavier guy, i've heard reports of carbon ones breaking. i use carbon poles and have only broken one skiing, never while backpacking, but i'm not that heavy + ultralight.
