What do you think happens when you get sucked into a black hole? do you thin it would be like something that happened in interstellar? or do you think you would just die?
>>7776727
>or do you think you would just die?
Yes. In fact you would die before you even got near it. You'd get ripped apart by tidal forces.
Tidal force is the difference between gravity acting on one side of an object vs the other. They want to be accelerated at different rates, which stretches the object. The tides near a black hole would rip apart any object.

how close could you get to one say you wanted to?

only for smaller black holes
Lets say we've got a 10 tonne block of solid granite, /sci/. How much TNT would we need to blow it to rubble?
Also, if you happen to know how miners pattern their TNT to blow out huge chunks of rock wall please tell me.

I'm actually looking into the possibilities of the golden spiral, I think if we place TNT like pic related we may be able to blow the granite to hell and save some explosives for the infidels.

EVERY GALAXY IS RED SHIFTED SO IT´s MOVING AWAY FROM US
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9B7Ix2VQEGo [Embed]
Oh shit Andromeda Galaxy is going to hit us!
HOW CAN U EXPLAIN THIS?
HOW CAN SOMETHING THAT IS MOVING AWAY FROM US ACTUALY HIT US?
You're talking about two different phenomena. The redshift is caused by the expansion of space. They're getting further away, but not moving. This effect is greater in proportion to distancefrom us.Those galaxies also have motion in various directions. Andromeda happens to be moving towards us. Since it us so close to us, this effect is greater than expansion and the net result is decreasing distance.

Is there such a thing as a Tree View Organizer Editor, or a Flowchart Editor that will let me hide specific branches whenever I want to?
I want to use it to categorize arts, sciences, crafts, recreative activities, etc in some sort of hierarchical or flowchart structure.
Any ideas?
Also, if anyone would like to help me with this, feel free to be part of it!
>>7776456
mindjet mindmanager
just torrent it
>>7778284
I'm using it now, but I can't hide specific branches. How can I do that?
>>7776456
i also got mindmanager but 2016 edition is more flowchart stuff.
found a tree style editor called treepad. maybe try that out? im kinda curious now too.

IBO HL math survivors, how hard are the final exams as compared to the coursework? Also any advice for a 1st year DP student in the course?
Thanks
>>7776432
You won't be ready
you'll never be ready
but that's okay because you will go into college better than anybody else in math. I didn't even need to study for most of calc II, it just came naturally to me.
>>7776432
It's brutal. HL exams, at least for for math, is meant to test only the brightest. Supposing you actually do get a 7, I guarantee you it's because you did 1 more question better than the next chump.
Just do SL. At the very least you wouldn't have to sacrifice a large portion of your time to do well.
The Mandela effect can easily be disproved. If you believe in this go back to /x/.

General linguistics thread starts here!
Now about my personal involvement in this field of study:
I'm working on a little project of my own, which has to do with studying English academic/scientific writing and its stylistics in particular. I need a reasonable amount of digitalized articles I could work with (dating from 40s until now) in order to be able to carry on, and I wonder if there are such resources with archives of digitized articles available.
I forgot what its called, but theres a program that lets you read digitized shit from global newspapers
you get them in pdf format and its literally just local papers from all 4 corners of world w/o translation unfortunately
forgot what its called, but guaranteed 100% exists such a repository
>>7776402
Yeah, that's exactly what I thought myself.
In fact, there's a lot of stuff available for free on gen.lib.rus.ec, but hardly any magazines there are actually digitized.
As for translations, that's not my concern at all because I work with source texts directly. Anyway, if you remember its name, feel free to leave a reply.

most irritating misconceptions about linguistics
>linguistics is about learning/teaching languages
>linguists are experts on whether someone's using proper grammar
>studying linguistics will make you a good writer
>linguistics is about culture

What is the evolutionary advantage of having a black president?
I came across a video about a scooter that runs on water on Facebook and everybody is talking about how this could be used but gas companies kill people who bring it forth etc....
So I thought I'd do my own calculation on it but not being a scientist and only getting basic chem about 10 years ago I got stuck, here's what I have so far:
Water = H2O (2 Hydrogen molecules for each Oxygen molecule)
Energetic Value Hydrogen = 141,86 MJ/kg on burning and you need 1 Oxygen molecule per 2 Hydrogen molecules in order to burn it. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_density)

>So if I split water using electricity I'd get about 26Wh of energy from it if I burn it, but I can't find how much energy I need to split one liter.
The exact same amount. Or realistically, more than that, since no process is going to be 100% efficient.
It is physically impossible for any cycle (in this case water to H and back again) to result in a net gain in energy.
>>7776420
> in this case water to H and back again
What do you mean back again, it just has to go to H, not back again?
I just found this post however:
https://www.quora.com/How-much-water-can-you-split-into-hydrogen-and-oxygen-using-electrolysis-with-one-kilowatt-hour-of-electricity
"1 kilowatt hour of electricity can split about 270 grams of water"
270g water would give an energy of about 7,14Wh, meaning you'd have less then 10% efficiency, so that settles...

HHO engines are an OLD scam and have never actually worked.
If you're all so smart, why haven't you cured male pattern baldness?
We have. The solution is called a "wig".

Seems you're not very smart. That's not a cure, it's covering your head with material. MPB persists with your wig on your head.
I have a chance at interning here. Worth my time? Anyone else have experience with working for NASA? Or is it a waste of time... God please tell me it isn't a waste of time.
Working for NASA doing anything would be a really good thing to put on your resume if you end up not liking your job. Do it.

Alright. Going for it. Emails have been sent to University & Work for letters of recommendation.
/sci/ by my most recent calculations I have determined that the odds of winning the powerball are the same as flipping heads about 28 times in a row. Let's have a probability thread!
There's also a question I've been pondering. They tell me that the intersection of independent probabilities is equivalent to the multiplication of those probabilities.
Why the hell is this the case? I just see people spouting this definition. I've never seen a proof.
The simplest proof is to use a combinatoric tree. Suppose you have a coin, what's the probability of tossing it twice and getting heads both times? The first toss has 2 possibilities (heads or tails), then each of these tosses has two branches for the second toss (again, heads or tails). The total sample space is therefore 4. Heads, heads, represents one event out of the 4. Hence probability =1/4 or 1/2 * 1/2
What is interesting is that although you may think having the lottery numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6 has just as much chance as any other combination, in fact because it is a run of consecutive numbers it is a far less likely outcome

Is neural engineering a a type of data science or does it just qualifes as neuroscience?
