>We have always been proud of our large brains. Indeed a century or so ago, men of science (and they usually were all men) would routinely measure human heads and weigh their brainy contents to prove our dominance over the beasts. (They did this as well as making false claims on the primacy of certain human groups over others.)
It's okay to compare humans to animals, but comparing humans to other humans is wrong? I don't get it. Please explain.
Because it means you hate blacks

>It means I'm better than you.
>I could have lots of PhDs in any field I want.
>I just don't because I would rather spend my time telling people to look at the size of my head.
>That's how much better than you I am.

You guys are way smarter than me at this.
but it is science
Fags who think they're cool just because they study "real" science. Science is science.
chemistry and physics are the real sciences
Can this reverse the effects of global warming?
>>8055815
Paint all roads and roofs white. That will slow it down quite a bit.
>>8055821
We'll need to set of mirrors on the oceans as well.
>>8055815
People have thought of his. It really isn't that great of an idea. It's not fixing the main issue with global warming : greenhouse gases. Also if you take a fuck load of mirrors and throw them into space how the fuck will plants grow?
One of the best ways to combat climate change is to take excess CO2 and react it with basalt. The problem is that right now it's too expensive to do and no one really has a good idea of how to excessive atmospheric CO2 and pump it into the earth.

Fusion doesn't even work on earth.
These paper missions will be just that for the next 50 years, paper missions.

What the fuck did you say about me, you little bitch? [...] You're fucking dead, kiddo.
I have always been shitty at math, but have recently chosen to go into science. This requires mastery of calculus. I am currently in a geometry class that I will pass comfortably. My issue is that I want to take an Algebra 2 course, but I can't because I took the course in 2008. I forgot literally everything except how imaginary numbers work (don't ask why that stuck out). The college will not let me retake it even though I submitted a request citing my forgetting everything, claiming that I have "no legitimate reason." It will only allow me to take Trigonometry....

I am in college. I just ignored math as a kid and I'm trying to correct that. Many adults cannot do any real math.

What stops you from just showing up for the lectures, and to hell with anything exam-ish?
>Is it wise?
Not really. You can do a quick refresher course though.

\frac{\partial^2 f}{\partial x^2}=\frac{\partial^2 f}{\partial t^2} + (a+bt)f

What is a non-trivial solution to this equation.

I already answered almost the same question in another thread.

fxx=ftt+(a+bt)f
Let f(x,t)=X(x)*T(t)
X''/X=T''/T+(a+bt)=constant

How can science be objective if our reality is subjective?
Jaden go back to bed.
>>8055400
Double dubs.
Reality is constructed in our brains. Science is essentially exploiting our senses which were strictly developed to help the propagation of information (DNA) through time.
>>8055416
No, you have it completely backwards. Reality is objective. Our conceptions of it are, by definition, subjective. Science is the constant attempt to make our subjective conceptions of the reality more objective and accurate. There is only one reality and subjectivity is simply the necessary effect of being singular parts of that reality with specific vantage points.
Starting with the release of Oliver Stone's Snowden, I think a significant amount of people will respond pretty terribly to the idea of being recorded constantly. It'll drive a lot of otherwise healthy people mentally unstable and reclusive, let alone anyone suffering from depression, anxiety, obsessions, compulsions etc etc
At some point no amount over government lies will hide the fact that everyone is being monitored by them and hackers. And the degree to which they will have access will only increase exponentially with technology.
I cannot imagine how much worse AI will make this.
Am I blowing things out of proportion? Am I totally off even?
>>8055396
I felt this topic appropriate for the board given that a good discussion of it requires some understanding of mental health, surveillance technology, and maybe AI.

Which human language is best to learn for mathematics (after English ofc)?
>>8055354
Chinese
>>8055354
Why would you learn any language besides English if you want to do research mathematics? Everyone else around the globe learns English to communicate their mathematical ideas, not the other way around. See: Perelman, Mochizuki, and of course every other professional modern mathematician (I just noted those 2 because most people on /sci/ will recognize their names immediately).
Why would you need to learn a language for mathematics?
Sup /sci/, Math major (Applied Math/Statistics concentration) here.
Why is Pure Math so glorified here? It's honestly the least marketable thing you can do with mathematics amongst all the majors that require a decent amount of mathematics.
I get that it's interesting (I take interest in it as well). However, the only thing people do with it is teach retarded engineering majors at shitty universities how to take derivatives.
So why are you majoring in (pure) math, and what do you plan to do with it after you graduate?
>>8055320
Isn't that an american only thing? My degree's title is only 'Mathematics'.
How can you even specialize in applied or pure in fucking undergrad?
I think it is a bit dumb.
>>8055320
Because you should study what interests you, not just to get a job.
>>8055320
>the only thing people do with it is teach dick sucking engineering majors how to take derivatives.
Is that an 'murican thing? Sure, most of those people in europoor teach aswell, but their main focus is on their own studies.

Hey /sci/.
I'm trying to cultivate a fungus, but every time I start a crop another fungus always invades and kills my culture. Temperature and humidity control doesn't seem the problem - I've got a fairly rigorous setup that I check very frequently and sterilize thoroughly, so I'm thinking maybe the grain I'm using is contaminated? I kind of went the cheap route and used bird seed, so is there either a way to purify the bird seed before introducing the culture, or should I go with a different kind of grain? Recommendations?
>>8055132
Boil it in a pressure cooker. Then inocculate it with your fungi. and keep in an environment without airflow that brings in environmental spores.
tl;dr google how to grow magic mushrooms properly, the guides are out there to avoid having your shrooms infected by the environment.
make a home autoclave in a pressure cooker?
dry roast the bird seed?
buy lab grade food source for the fungi as bird seed is definitely super contaminated
>>8055153
I'll admit, I can't actually find a lab grade supply of grain on any common online retailer. Is there a specific site for it?

Is there an approach to take to find the largest product that is possible to be made, by only multiplying one and only one number from each row and column?
Or even a brute force way I can use in Matlab.
Attached problem is easy example
In this example i think (i may be wrong ) the answer would be (9*9*6*3)=1458
But is there a general method
>>8054823
9*9*7*4 is the biggest product.
How big are the biggest grids you're working with? Because for an n*n grid, there are n! possible products. So you could brute force calculate them all and then choose the maximum, assuming n is small enough.
>>8054823
9*9*7*4 is bigger
