ITT: Discuss anything related to banach spaces or functional analysis in general.

>lel, i poasted it again!
>>7782879
How is linear algebra and real analysis is needed to functional analysis?
>>7782906
Because functional analysis is the study of infinite dimensional vector spaces, many interesting examples of which are function spaces
I may sound like an idiot when I ask this, but I am intrigued now.
Can stem cells perhaps one day re-create a female reproductive system?
This could be used for male-to-female transsexuals and/or barren (cis) women.
I'm always fascinated by the possibility of re-creating human life and/or bodies. I want for someday for humanity to play God.
Replacing a person's organs, maybe. Sexual transitioning, never. You can't just generate an x or a y chromosome from nothing. Even if you transplanted one from a person's mother or father into the stem cells, you still have the problem of every cell in the person's body having a different genome than what you transplant.
Stop it Bruce, you'll never become a woman.
>>7777880
There are already XY chromosome intersex women with functioning wombs. Chromosomes are not a barrier to functioning sex organs, even those of the opposite sex.
>you still have the problem of every cell in the person's body having a different genome than what you transplant.
What does that matter? You can already get organs donated from the opposite sex, and with anti-rejection drugs your body incorporates it just fine. Chromosomes are just instructions for cell division.
So /sci/ I'm in highschool, have a facination in space, and hope to become a space/aerospace engineer. My question is what is the job market like in southern ontario (Canada)? Would I need to move to the states for any chance at a job or what?
>>7777429
If you are smart enough to excel at the field, and can't find a job. You can always become a doctor.
>>7777429
read sticky
>>7777432
I definitely don't want to be a fucking doctor
If you took out everything in the universe except for two planets and placed them at opposite sides of the universe, would they still attract one another through gravitation?
There is so many things wrong with that neck
>>7777409
yup. gravity's reach is infinite.
>>7777409
Do you realize that you can mathematically compute this yourself?
complete the pattern /sci/

Hi guys, I have been chatting to an MIT physics professor, and he has said the following:
if you want to do physics you should:
>learn to code
>learn statistics
>make friends with academics
I am wondering a) whether that is good advice and b) what the best way is to make friends with academics is - im only in high school, i dont have anything to contribute to conversations!
>>7773444
It all depends on what you want to do later
>>7773460
Either pure physics or Aero engineering
>>7773462
For the former it's good advice but for the latter I would go to your local gay bar
Since euclidean geometry is a formal system, and formal systems are either complete or incomplete:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Completeness_(logic)
Is euclidean geometry complete?
>>7772575
No.
http://www.maa.org/sites/default/files/pdf/upload_library/22/Ford/Greenberg2011.pdf
>>7772726
Does it give any examples? Or does it simply prove that such statements must exist?
>>7772766
that peper the anon posted
http://www.maa.org/sites/default/files/pdf/upload_library/22/Ford/Greenberg2011.pdf
discusses also formalizations that are complete - of course they are slightly different theories then

How do I eliminate stress and anxiety when taking an exam or at least how do I learn to focus under stress?
if you actually knew the material you wouldnt be nervous
if you know the material and are still nervous thats called an irrational fear >>>/psych/
>>7768289
Accept that you are going to do badly and just go in there and have fun :3
>>7768289
There is no reason to be nervous going into an exam
If you studied, you'll do well
If you didn't study you're fucked and there's no point in worrying, just hack it as best you can
Literal worst case scenario is you burst into treats on a final, get zero, and retake the course next year
not that big of a deal, and it's never going to happen if you actually studied
Okay. Am I close to working out this 360 degrees in a circle yet?

Your certainly close to needing medication for your OCD.

No matter how i add/subtract/multiply/divide the vectors i can't get any of the numbers that show up as answers. Not even the r or v.
A little stuck on this problem:
Any help is much appreciated, i am trying to become an aerospace engineer entrapauneer that will move onto space engineering when the time is right.

Literally look up the definitions and plug the numbers in senpai. If you can't do this one by yourself, how will you manage Hohmann transfer orbits?
>>7785112
Which definitions do i look up Senpai?
Once i get a brief understanding of how the numbers interact i'll get it.
I'm slow to understand, quick to master kind of mind.
Where can I find some good resources on tensors? I studied them few years ago in fluid mechanics and continuum medium mechanics but I forgot almost everything.
>I just remember that a tensor is to a vector what vectors are to scalars
>I remember the teacher repeating over and over that TENSORS ARE NOT MATRICES !!!
I since then graduated from a master in motion control where I hadn't had the occasion to manipulate tensors.
We could meet up and form a study group
>>7784940
Why would i do that? At best i might try to wrestle in some cheese whiz after smooth manifold calculations.
Is khan academy the best way to learn mathematics if your knowledge doesn't extend past first year university maths?
It is for normal people who associate math with severe pain
>>7784923
Due to way it has been taught for so long, yes.
