have any /out/doorsmen been confronted by a park ranger while illegally camping? I've recently moved universities and kinda want to go overnight camping with a fire etc... but i don't want to go to overcrowded tenting parks.
what do?
where do you live?
>>662388
If you're in the US, go to a National Forest and camp outside established grounds. It's called dispersed camping and it's free. As long as there isn't drought conditions and/or you aren't above a certain altitude you can also have a fire.
>>662415
>you aren't above a certain altitude
What is this restriction?
I have never heard of this.
/out/ I need your help on finding the right flashlight.
There are tons and tons of flashlights out there but I don't know shit about anything that could help me pick one.
Do some of you experienced outdoor guys have any idea what's a 'good' flashlight?
It should be somewhat rugged
rather light
long lifetime (probably the only thing that really matters for me, i don't want no 2 hours battery lifetime)
medium sized
maybe different options like max lumen, low lumen and eco
im a cheap dude so I'd rather not pay over...

I just bought an Energizer headlight. Found the same light I bought a week later hiking off trail. So now I have two. Great light. I will post pics when I get back to my gear storage facility, aka home.

Anyone have experience with these? DIYs or custom built? Share your pics or ideas. What would you ideally install as necessities or store?

Anyone here interested in BB? I'm trying to get into it with a cheap <20$ gun, and need some advice. I've found a few I like (Pic related) and was wondering if there's anything to consider when getting into BB. (Gun in pic is stinger p311)

I was think about starting a thread like this, but wasn't sure if it belonged on /out/ and didn't want to go full /k/ommando.
I have a handful of pellet guns, my one pistol is a cheap Daisy BB pistol that's around 400fps. If you really want to hunt with it, you gotta get a rifle that shoots pellets, at least 700fps.

Anyone know any 3 season sleeping bags for like $20?
Need a cheap but quality one for reasons.
I'd like one that covers the head too if a possibility.
Garbage bags would work great for you, a garbage person. Maybe the garbage man would throw you in a landfill
used market or military surplus

Swiss surplus is pretty good
The Bundy brothers have no intention of stewarding the land on Oregon or returning it to the original families. They intend to auction off the land in parcels and use the money to support Ammon's failing transportation company in Arizona.
Oh look, another BLM shill thread

I just can't wait for the Oregon national guard to politely ask them to leave in the form of doing a few fly-bys in an apache.
I'm about to be homeless near denver, co. I have a tent, a 40o sleeping bag, some not very warm clothing. I can at least camp away from urban areas.
What can I fucking do.
>>662260
its going to be 15 degrees tonight
plz respond
You sound really unprepared
Got any money? Get a toque, some thick socks(2 pairs, one over your hands), and a cheap sleeping pad.
If your broke, just hangout in gas stations and the like and walk to a different one when you can handle it.
Try to be homeless somewhere else next time

If I do that I will die.
Does /out/ have any resources on how to prepare furs and hides in the wild? Does anyone have any experience with it?
All I know is that you need to stretch it real good, cook the animal's brain, I think with some water, then turn it into a juicy thing and "paint" the inner side of the skin
But im no expert
Try youtube
>>662189
urine not water
>>661912
Two main points:
1) Remove all the bits on the skin.
2) Coat with tannins (brains or acorn water)
I've heard of urine being used to soften the leather, but I don't know anything about the process. I've also heard of smoke tanning, but from what I've seen, it makes for a harder leather.
Please update if you find anything.
I was looking for a general boot advice thread by there was none so I am opening this.
I got a voucher for a 100€ plus now shops are on sale, and my local outdoor shop has the models on picture with the following prices:
Scarpa Ranger 129€
Merell Crestbound 129€
Columbia Excurion Mid LTR 130€
Anatom Q3 Braeriach 200€
If you have in mind that I have a 100€ voucher I might be paying between 29€ and 100€ for a pair of boots.
Now, I live in Ireland so I need something waterproof and I am looking for something with leather(bad...

Those anatom look really good indeed
i have a pair of the Scarpa go up.
they are brilliant and Scarpa is a solid brand, so personally if pick the Scarpa but thats just because ive never ownedor held any of the other brands
>>661279
Are those Scarpa whaterproof?
Thing with the ones on offer is that they are not waterproof, but as far as I understand you can make them waterproof with treatments over the leather.
Hey /out/ this is a thread to outline your favorite Fish to catch, your favorite bait to catch them with and your favorite go-to techniques. I'm a big fan of dragging a baby brush hog through ruffage and shelter to make the largemouth's instinct strike. wbu?
Spotted Gar fishing in a nutshell
> Live in South Florida
> Fish during Springtime

> Cut them in half
> Walk around lake looking for a gar
> Find one and cast in front of Gar
> Gar is almost guaranteed to bite
> Wait for Gar to swallow bait

I love fishing for catfish. I use chicken livers. I'll add several shot weights and make an easy cast out, keep the bail open, and wait. All that's left is setting the hook once line starts to spool off.
Caught this bad boy Tuesday. Biggest fish of the day. 26 inches. Caught it on a plastic. Don't ever use bait
This is a quarantine thread for folks to post their simple or otherwise stupid questions to help clean up the board
Like a lot of other /in/fags I too have recently been struck with the desire to go /out/. By chance my Uncle invited me to go on a 5 day backpacking trip this summer at Pictured Rocks in Michigan. The temperatures of that area at that time of year ranges about 50-75F and supposedly it's a pretty moist/humid/rainy area; I hear cotton isn't too functional when water is applied but unfortunately just about every clothing item I own is cotton. Will I be...

Gear won't make you better. How do you think you'll fare with the physical part?
I'd get with an experienced backpacker, and pick their brain about a good lightweight setup.
I'm sure you'd rather be wet with energy than sweaty (still wet) and fatigued.
A rain proof shell should be part of any hike of any length.
Hope you have fun. I wish I had people in my life more motivated than me to get /out/

What kind of temperatures are you expecting?

Also, stupid question:
Are there any backpacks that hold two hydration bladders? I have a camelbak bag, but its only made to hold a single bladder.
