how does one get started with Artificial intelligence?
State what's of your interest. AI is a really wide term.
In general for a layman I would advise to firstly learn programming, then some basics of algorithms, data structures and from now on pursue into AI.
If you can't program in anything, go for Python. If you know shit about algorithms/data structures, you will overall be capable of doing simple stuff.

pic is actually valid for almost all sciences except maybe fundamental physics.
>>8075624
Fucking human sciences are a cancer of academia.
I bet they define "bad study" as something that doesn't sit well with their feels
For my calculus finals, I need to learn Lagrange multipliers, absolute extrema and multiple integrals by tomorrow. How fucked I am, /sci/?
>>8075471
If it isn't multivar calc you'll be 100% fine desu.
The first two can be tackled at the same time. The last, if you don't know it already you're probably fucked because it means you missed the entire point of the course. In particular, you've failed to grasp the utility of the stokes and divergence theorems--along with their physical intuition.
>>8075473
IT'S NOT
>>8075474
Do you think I can make it till tomorrow?

This question pertains to reincarnation
How does identity work in terms of reincarnation? Identity and consciousness is a very tricky thing to discuss because under all of the thoughts and memories, who am 'I' really? and who's to say that he who is 'I' will not experience consciousness again within the length of eternity?
Am I being silly here? I've just been thinking about the possibility of being reincarnated in different scenarios in which the universe would permit civilization to occur over and over again in a reality where time has no limit.
>>8075395
Reincarnation isn't real.
Put down the bong.

Chemistry question: Is there any household substance that has calcium in it that I can purify? I need some for a project I'm working on.
Are you asking for pure calcium? You're better off trying to get an intermediate. What are you trying to do with it?

Humans are getting fatter and fatter.
As soon as they have the economic ability to eat all they want, they will almost always choose to do so.
Is there any stopping it or is humanity destined to be a gluttonous blob?
Excuse me, but gym and self-esteem also comes with money.
(Well, sometimes...)
I'm in biotech and I like to think that maybe a century from now we'll be regularly editing to improve the human genome.
As long as you're not editing to improve metabolic efficiency, and adding genes so that say, a person packs on more muscle, humans would be able to eat more without getting fat.
I suppose you could also edit to purposefully decrease metabolic efficiency as well, so you'd eat more to maintain the same body you got right now.
Of course the chief ethical issue with this, assuming we can wield the tool reliably, is that...

>humans would be able to eat more without getting fat.
This would be fucking horrible.
Imagine all of the wasted resources coming from creating all that food. The only thing stopping humans from eating 24/7 is fear of their health and the fact that they die early if they eat too much.
If suddenly everyone was able to eat as much as they wanted the amount of resources needed to do this would completely wreck our planet.
I hope we never find a "cure" for fatness...

How many generations does it take for unique genes from an ancestor like Genghis Khan, to be overwritten or diluted to the point of non-existence?
Is something like that possible, or will there always be a little bit of Genghis Khan in the human race?

Is it even worth colonizing other planets?
Seems to me like it would be way cheaper to build colonies on asteroids and small moons, to avoid dealing with gravity wells and atmosphere of planets
>build colonies on asteroids
Asteroids are really fucking small.
They have almost nothing on them.
And they spin way to fast to be useful.
>build colonies on small moons
This idea receives serious consideration.
There are several gas giant moons people can make a case for.
Another common suggestion is comets.
>>8075056
Seems like we should just build towns in the desert
The advantage of planets is the gravity and atmosphere.
Is undergraduate research worth doing?
>>8074960
Nothing separates 'undergraduate research' from 'graduate research' except a few years of reading textbooks, so yes.
>>8074961
Have you done any research? I just wanna know what it's like. I think one of my teachers is trying to make me his golden tendie boy, so I'm trying to figure out what I'd be getting myself into.
>>8074966
Not the same anon, but research is completely different depending on what field you go into. I'm an undergrad doing molecular dynamics. Doing something computational is great because in some cases you can work from home if you need. When I spend a month not getting anywhere with a simulation, though, I feel like an unproductive piece of shit.
Would it be possible to automate the job of a mathematician by using some sort of logical constraint satisfaction technique, whereby axioms are combined together in all possible combinations to form proofs, and then proofs can be combined together to get more proofs? Could we just hook this technique up to some super computers and map out all of mathematics in finite time?
ya
>>8074921
Sure. Now do it.
Oh wait, what's that? You can't?
I guess mathematicians will be keeping their jobs, topkek.
>>8074921
>Could we just hook this technique up to some super computers and map out all of mathematics in finite time?
No. It would take forever to do that.
I have an IQ of 120 which is probably lower than most of you 140 iq geniuses on this board, but I've recently become completely engrossed in the possibility of reality being simulated. It seems to me to be more likely than not, but my only reference material has been some shitty 4chan posts and some YouTube videos, half of which devolve into 9-11 illuminati, the Jews did everything clusterfuck.
I am terribly interested in learning more about this topic though, and I'm certain you guys could enlighten me on the subject. Just please, let's keep it intelligent...

People still fall for the iq meme? IQ != Intelligence
IQ is just pseudo-scientific bullshit
>>8074954
Was just using it as a reference point to state I don't fully comprehend the intracies of a lot of stuff you guys talk about on this board.
I am well aware of the meme argument people have about IQ not being viable.
Will the world end in the next 100 years?
Big Rip.
The world? Nah, but the possibility of humanity ending itself in the next 100 years is very real.

The world will end when Disney determines there is no more profit to be had.
Search your heart, you know this to be true.
If I travel to Jupiter and drop a lit match into the atmosphere, would it start the methane on fire and create a dwarf star?
If i detonate a nuclear bomb in Earth's Oxygen rich atmosphere, will it burn all the oxygen away?
>>8074883
No, Jupiter has already tons of thunderstorms.
Asteroids burn up in jupiters atmosphere all the time.
