Many of the pictures taken on my Motorola Nexus 6 look better than the ones taken on my old Canon S95 under the same conditions. The camera on this phone is considered to be just average compared to other phones. Have modern mobile phone cameras finally surpassed the S95 in IQ?

Doubt it.
>>
>>2805428
Under what conditions? In daylight, phone cameras have been really good for quite a while. In artificial lighting, my S90 is still better than my Sony Z1, especially with a bit of raw processing.

Also, zoom and flash.

Just took a couple of pics to compare the S95 (left) and the Nexus 6 (right). What do you think?

Beginner here.
I tend to just use Lightroom.
Might start trying out Adobe Colour in future.
>>
I'm fine just with ligtroom
>>
I usually dont. When I take photos, it's either they are absolute shit, or I'm happy enough to keep them.

I'm also pretty inept at editing anyways, so I don't think it matters if I were to want to or not, because I cant.

I don't take photos of anything I'm getting paid for, it's just an outlet and fun thing for me, so I'm okay with whatever my camera produces.

Maybe I'll learn soon tho. I would like to be a better photographer.

How can you stand out as a photographer in a society where each person is exposed to literally thousands of photographs every day?

What's the point in even trying when you are competing against LITERALLY millions of other semi-pro photographers, and this does not even include the billion or so people who upload cell phone pics.

Is it even possible to stand out in this day and age?

Why compete? Why try to stand out? These are selfish, negative actions that will only create negative reactions.

Create for the joy of creation. That should be your goal.

Hey! Want to buy ring flash for macro photo, but is it possible to use it normal way for shooting portraits or using in light setups? It has light source, why not?
6 replies and 1 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>2805305
Most cheap macro lights aren't useful for portraits because they don't put out nearly enough light. Ring lights for portraiture are very very bright, and the cheap ones cost around $500.
>>
Yeah those are useless for anything other than macro. The ring flashes used for portraits are a different thing entirely.

Is it possible to achieve a picture like pic related with a Nikon D600 with a Tamron 18-270mm lens? If not, what should I change? What settings should I have to make the same kind of picture
6 replies and 1 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>2804944
You will need to add some sort of reflector to your kit, but what you have currently will certainly work, camera wise.

For settings, it will depend on the light source, but if you're shooting in daylight like that, ISO 100, somewhere around 100mm, f/8, and whatever shutter speed you need to use to not blow the highlights on your subject.

The sun is camera right, so your reflector would be camera left filling in the shadows on the subject.
>>
You mean, a well lit portrait with the background out of focus??? Just learn how to take portraits. Yes you can do it with your gear.
>>
>>2804944

I told you off in an earlier thread you posted for buying prematurely and without thinking. I hadn't realised that you were this green, my apologies.

Your combination is fine. Check out some portrait techniques around the web to learn about defocusing the background.

Long story short you want to use the long end of your lens (270mm) to achieve this effect. The issue with your lens though (as I pointed out) is that I know this lens at its long end is pretty soft looking. It isn't made for...

I want to print some digital images on photographic paper.

To make the story simple, they are all mindbendingly horrible pornographic images, and I would like them to remain unseen.

So, how do I get them printed without buying a printer that works with glossy paper, and also without needing a big hat, big pair of sunglasses, false beard and a trenchcoat?

Turtleneck image unrelated because they are universally loved.

How about getting them printed online?
Read their terms of service and check if you are allowed to print it there. Some people in a printing plant somewhere will know that you are a pervert but they'll never meet you. Man I love turtlenecks.
>>
Turtlenecks are fucking terrible. Just... the worst possible shirt, both to wear and to see being worn. I've never been excited to meet someone wearing a turtleneck. I know that there's a ponytail somewhere in their past or future, and they probably own one pair of leather sandals.

Songs would be an easier choice, personally. Just a frame of reference, let's use the Rolling Stones as an example. Specifically, their song "Paint It Black." The very first lyrics are "I see a red door, and I want it painted black."

So as a photo, you could just take the lyric literally as a photo of someone in the process of painting a red door black.

That's a very simple (and pretty crappy) way of doing it, so I'd stretch out your creativity and see how complex you...

Use "Melancholy Man" by The Moody Blues.
You can literally do a sad photo of yourself without lyrics.

If I print something, it's likely to stay with me or who I gift it to for a while. It's something that someone can show their friends/relatives after they've gotten a new phone or laptop.

It's also not a disposable piece of paper like the trash that enters your door, a bill, a bank statement, a newspaper, a leaflet promoting a business or a takeaway menu. All that shit is not only a waste of paper but a waste of ink. It's something I won't ever have an attachment to.
A photo though? I'm more likely...

Because when I work late at the office I can print out as much as I like without anyone chewing my ass out.

I agree that it needs resized but I kinda like it.
I think you got lucky with a very generic long exposure, though, and I think the scene is too busy.
You can explore the theme further and with more care.
