Noise in colour photographs that you don't think looks absolutely horrendous...
I've always like the visible grain in high speed film. A lot of digital photographers seem to be OK with it for film and digtial B&W but the modern trend is that any noise in colour digital is instant hate.
I get that it often looks very bad... but sometimes I see digital images that have quite obvious noise and I think the pic actually looks quite good with it.
Three pics I noticed here (not my pics - just noticed them on flickr).
unearthed from the closet, have some 2013 photos
or 2014 i didn't actually label anything
name a better photographer, i dare you

Ok so feel free to report / hide this if it's not supposed to be here, but since the film board is a hub of pedos and shitposters I felt like this would be my best bet. Anyways~
I found this at a thrift store for like 30 bucks. I've always loved the look of 8mm film and I figured why the hell not, so I picked it up. I'm just wondering where I can find film for this and how difficult the process would be to get it onto a computer. ANY sort of information would be super helpful, I'm not familiar with 8mm at all. Thank you!

its prohibitively expensive
like 100$ per ~4 min of film. (at least in the US)
>>2748303
Holy shit, for real? I was expecting it to be kinda expensive but not like that.
Is it just specific to this one or are all 8mm film cameras that expensive to use? How do so many filmmakers / skateboarders use them and upload them on YouTube then?
>>2748304
its the film that's expensive
because they're rich hipster white kids? I don't know what films you're talking about. a lot of it is done digital and run thru a filter. or maybe they were shot 20+ years ago, when it was cheap.
'Sup /p/, i found my dad's reflex with a film in and made some photos while knowing nothing of photography. what do you think? Are they at least a bit artsy/interesting or it's just shit?

Is photography even art, how does it compare to painting?

Yes and no.
A lot of paintings aren't what I'd call 'art' either.

Why is painting considered art?
Looking to get into photography. You can hide the thread if its not supposed to be here but i read the sticky and it wasn't much help. Im just in need of either someone who can point me where to go or will answer some questions.
Do you have a camera? Is the weather good enough to shoot?
Go out and take photos! Learn to use manual mode! Experiment!

I really want to get into it but I don't have the money to get a camera yet.

Im hella nervous about my first photography job. It's a 10 day yoga retreat in a beautiful area, I have access to pristine wildlife, gorgeous people doing interesting things, and I'm shitting myself that I'm not ready.
How was your first gig? How could you have improved it? Let me learn from your mistakes.
Please rate a few of my photos and tell me where I can improve for the retreat.
My gear: Nikon D3200, shit kit lens, nikor 1.8G 50mm, and 70-300 telephoto/macro nikor, tripod, and lightroom. I know my gear isn't epic mode, but it gets the job done.

Photos don't matter, just get well into that yogi pussy.
What kind of camera and retouch is this photographer Kalle Gustafsson working in his photos of Hackett campaigns? Love it… would like to come close to a result like that!
another example of the "look" ..
>>2748017
Pretty much any camera with a telephoto lens. The processing is a lot of the look. You want soft but directional light, good fill for the shadows, and muted colors in your scene.
For processing, the skin looks painted in in the first image, so frequency separation and a low opacity brush for the colors you want (in this case, a bit far to the magenta) to unify the tones). Lower the overall saturation a bit on the entire image.
Very similar steps for the second image, but the black and white points have...

thanks alot, it explains it pretty good. ill take notes of this! would u consider a canon 5d m3 + 70-200mm 2.8 setup be good for this in order to achieve a close result? and how much time do you think approx is put into the processing of an image with this look? ..im trying to compare my earlier works with how you could work otherwise.. thx
Ok, due to popular demand I'm creating a thread for photos I've taken on deployment (one year ago and haven't shared yet) as well as some other stuff so you guys can see and critique me on my "normal" stuff too. I'll start with military photos and when I run out of stuff worth posting I'll switch to others. Not gonna follow the 1000x1000 rule because Im an absolute madman.
Just to get some FAQs out of the way:
I was an Osprey crewchief in the Marines from 2010-2015 (only flew from 2012 on but anyway)
I did photography and highschool and didnt buy another camera til the X-T1 a few months after it came out because I needed to fill a void my ex-gf provided.
So I started bringing my X-T1 on flights, and just went crazy. Whenever I got to take pictures like that, we were flying in formation and my ass was sitting on the open ramp of my Osprey as I took pictures of our dash 2 while sitting or laying in the prone.
It was a unique opportunity that pretty much no one gets to do. My job in the military was pretty sick compared to 98% of MOSs and when I started bringing my camera it got even more rewarding.
All these photos were taken on deployment this time last year. We were in Kuwait but flew into Iraq to do anti-ISIS stuffs every day or two.
While I was over there I got to go to Saudi Arabia once, Jordan twice, Iraq several times, and Bahrain once.
Alright so I hope you enjoy the thread, I consider myself an intermediate photographer and idk I don't think I'm all too good but I have some neat stuff that you guys would never get to see otherwise. Some of you may also know me as the fag who bought a fucked up 500cm. I also posted some Osprey pics about a year and a half ago that are NOT most of these. Gonna post until I run out of wine then pick it up again tomorrow.
