so does anyone here on /p/ use the vsco app as a platform for your photography? and not using iPhone snapshits, I'm talking about taking pictures on your dslr, editing them either within the app or not, then uploading to vsco. what're you opinions on that
I was never too fond with the idea of uploading my DSLR work to mobile platforms. It's not that I feel like it's cheating (even though it clearly is) but, that it is the wrong approach. Shitty IQ mobile photos are better suited to be seen on mobile devices. If the pic is really good, then of course print it, upload it to flickr, whatevs., but a fine image should be printed directly.
Now I believe Vsco has some sort of journal or some shit. It isn't like the old grid (from the vsco app) but some sort of platform to make blog posts with your photos. That...

I'm going to buy my first fixed focal length lens in a few days. As I'm interested in street photography I'm thinking about the Nikkor 35mm 1/1,8G or the Nikkor 50mm 1/1,8G for my D3200. Which should I choose?

35mm on crop camera like yours, do nikkon not do a similarly priced 24 or 28?
Also gear thread
>>2744587
There's a 28mm 1/1.8, but it's out of my price limit
Also, which of 50mm and 35mm is better for portrait photography?
>>2744592
The 50mm
I really hate my local photography scene its shit like this or recently retired old men taking up the new hobby of photographing younger women nude or half nude

she would have been better of smoking crack each day during these 9 years. Would look better and at least made some interesting experience.
I generally dislike fb whores who think they can model and get shot wide open by bad photonerds who invested in ff+f/1.2 lenses for muh bokeh, but miss the focus in 90% of their shots.

the best shell get with her trashy tatoos and body is some closeups of her clam open wide (full aperture).
Are there /homebrew/ photographers here? Let's have a thread about your shitty home made cameras, pee.
>>2743025
Is that a 135mm lens/shutter combo from a 3x5" folder by any chance?
Only thing I've homebrewed was parodinal. It is cheap and as good as rodinal for stand-development. Also "xpro" reversal film on ra4 CD-3 instead of e6 CD-2, but the end it was pretty much the same, just cheaper.
There's this camera (yasica 635) I've found left for garbage, its shutter would only cock at 1/60, lens axis was off center and scratched af. I've cleaned it a bit, done a workaround to get the lens less off center etc; it was good to shoot. The off center axis sometimes is fun to use. Pic related.
This pics were also shot...

idk if the meta data will be attached or not but they're all taken with a D3300 and a either a nikon 50mm f/1.4 or sigma 10-20mm
my first time in NYC, i wanted to walk around and get some candid shots but at the same time not just snapshits. i never usually take candids, either.
just gonna post some selects
I can't figure out how to get rid of this smudge, even after cleaning it. It's the dark line to the right. Anyone got an idea?
It's a hair on your sensor. You can blow it off with a static-free blower, or avoid shooting at small apertures like f/16 or lower, or just clone it out in three seconds in lightroom or photoshop.
> Dark line to the right.
That's a tree.
Okay /p/ lets play a game.
>Take the best photo you can of your keyboard and whatever else is on your desk
>Other anons post their shit and critique others
Could be fun. Could not. If this is stupid then just scroll past and let this die.
Lets try to keep the critiques limited to the photography process and not on the gear used or the subject. You can go to /g/ if you want to get autistic over somebody's mousepad.

It's 2 in the morning in the middle of the cold Montana winter and I'm high as fuck. Not gonna happen.
I'm going to Vietnam soon and am looking to get into photography again but the problem is i lost all my passion for photography when dslr's came along and film became to expensive (where i come from atleast).
So i'm looking for a dslr that feels like a 35mm film camera:
-prefer without screen
-manual focus
-all controls of slr
previous camera's are pentax ME and Nikon F3
I do realise they probably don't produce this type of camera now but i'm hoping they might have produced one when dslr's first came out to try...

Try any of the Fuji X series. X-Pros or X-E's or X-T's. Maybe Olympus OM-D E's
Just buy any fucking dslr and don't look at the lcd retard.
What do you guys think of this? It's me and I took the photos myself

Faggy.
ITT: More that just
>"it's good" "it sucks" "it affects spot metering" "use auto focus f4g"
I'm talking real descriptive pros and cons—mainly cons.
Have shot film since high school, using an SLR with a split- or multi-prism screen I rarely had an out-of-focus shot. I'm not exaggerating though: unless I'm nice and tight, they're almost 50/50 misses on the DSLR but were 10/90 misses with an old mechanical beast.
Manual focusing on a flat DSLR seems to be giving...

>mfw Nikon FM focus screen in my 5D
>>2746482
"fits in" is not the same as "fits", retard.
Focusing screens have different thicknesses. The thickness of the ground glass dictates how much of out of focus areas will seem to be in focus on the ground glass.
Focusing screens that are common defaults in DSLRs only accurately show up to about f/2.8 of aperture. You could try a thinner screen before you go split circle. Such screens are less contrasty in general because more of light hits outside of it's plane of focus, but if you use fast lenses it compensates.
Gear Thread
If you have questions about a new camera, what lenses to buy and anything related to gear or wondering about getting into photography, post it in this thread.
Do not attempt to make a new thread for your new Rabal, broken glass and being new. You have been warned!
I repeat, ANYTHING GEAR RELATED goes in here!
And don't forget, be polite!

Hadn't bought anything new gear-wise in 2 years. Picked up a new body last month. Enjoying it so much I'm selling everything but 2 bodies (1 film, 1 digital) & 2 lenses (that work on both). Just feel so content about everything gear-wise. Pretty much only stuff I see myself getting for th next decade would be newer / better versions of the same stuff I own, but it's at the point where it's pretty cost-prohibitive to do so.
should i get a cmos or ccd or x-trans or foveon dslr
what are the pros and cons of each
are there photos of the same thing done with each somewhere
>>2744562
that's like the worst thing to base your purchase on
if you have to ask, the differences would be completely negligable for you
Enjoy. This is something that you have never seen.
