Thoughts on these lights? I'm not a fan at all. I think most of the people that use them are pretty hacky and portraits taken with them look really off and not natural. The ring reflection in the eyes is very creepy.

I inherited one of these from my father. Wat do?
Shoot half a 10-sheet box, realize how expensive and difficult it is to shoot large format, be disappointed with the results, leave the thing on your bookshelf for all perpetuity while constantly bragging on /p/ about being LF master race.
did you get a tripod or light meter with it?
I do have a tripod, but its a flimsy aluminum one. should still work though. I think there's a light meter laying around somewhere but idk how to use it

as a 4x5 owner I can say that this is 98% true of what happens with 4x5 owners.
I shoot maybe 20 shots a year and (that's 1-2 studio sittings) and most of my friends consider me an active LF shooter.

There's the GR, but if you can't afford that, you can try getting the Samsung EX2F which has an f/1.4 lens AND a fully articulated screen, as well as manual controls in video mode, though it is at the cost of a much smaller sensor

Op here, I was thinking about Nov 14th. That's long enough to gather some ppl who are interested and it lets them time to organise a free day, and if we meet afternoon / after work hours (>implying not only basement dweller nolifers will show up who don't have to worry about time) then the other day is a Saturday so it wont be limited by muh work and everyday activities.

No general film thread?
So, i have been trying out some cheap films here is my experiences i want to share with you so you don't make the same mistake:
Rollei 400s is not even close to being a 400 asa film - i shot 3 films in direct sunlight at f/8 and i got nearly nothing to see
1st film was developed in stock xtol for 12 min -> nothing on the film
2nd film was developed in stock xtol for 17 min -> a little on the film, but not nearly close enough for prints
3rd film got 30 mins on stock xtol -> the negative is thin, differently scanable, but properly would be hard to transfer to paper
FomaPan 400 is not nearly close to being a 400 asa film, more like a 100 or 200.
FomaPan 100 is a really great film, nearly no grain, and even the pictures which was a bit underexposed turned out great.

I used to shoot with rollei 400s; it looked good stand-developed on rodinal. Not really an ISO 400 film, more like ISO 250, but still very nice.

Nothing was actually shot with the 550D, it's basically a full time scanning rig now.

These were from a one off roll of very expired Fuji Sensia that came from under my friend's house. I shot it at 80 in my AE-1P.
I quite liked how it was a little warm.

Also, MUCH more forgiving of contrast and exposure than Velvia, which I believe is what informs the opinions of 90% of people that claim to have shot slides these days.

Did a session with a traveling model last weekend at a shared studio. These digital shots were done with my D700 and either a 105 macro or the 85 1.8 D. Lights were alienbees - some with a parabolic umbrella key + softbox kicker, others with a single gridded beauty dish, and still others with little ambient light and an LED light string.
