Hey I am still a little new to photography and I was wondering what the etiquette was for taking pictures of strangers. Do I ask them if it is ok? What if I want to get a picture of them acting naturally not posing?

Either way, pictures of people thread.

99% of the time I take pictures w/o asking. It's legal so idc. Sometimes I find a particular person interesting and ask if I can take a few shots. If confronted just say its for a project. If they ask me to delete it politely, I most likely will. If they're rude about it, I tell them to call the police if they want.
>>
>>2842520
You can legally take pictures in public as much as you want. Though I'd advise against getting up in someone's face.

Think, just what's the worst case scenario? Someone gives you a bad look? Tells you to stop? Like this Anon said >>2842523 just say it's for a project and delete if they ask you too

Not in Germany you can't. Although I found lately I need more dynamic range than before when taking pictures of people anyway. Considering switching to film.

Corrected the perspective on the buildings, then stretched them down to make them seem tall still.
Opened a curves layer and brought the black point in. Then went into each channel of the layer and brought the green and blue point over to the bottom of the histogram.

Duplicated all layers to a new layer, and did a high pass filter at 2 pixels radius and set to soft light to give some pop to the scene. Masked it away from the background across the river.

Added a curves layer to give some contrast to the darker areas in the foreground, and used the blend-if sliders to mask it away from the brighter parts of the image.

Then duplicated all layers onto a new layer, and lowered contrast and added a 1 pixel blur, and (very sloppily) masked it to the buildings in the background and in the distance, to give less business to the scene, and more emphasis on the foreground buildings.

There's something awesome, impressive, unique, and exciting happening, but it's blurry in exchange for us being able to focus directly on a totally mundane hooded head with no face.

The edit is flat and bland, but who fucking cares.

I wanted to experiment with some simple product photography, but since I didn't want to spend any money on just trying it, I decided to make my own simple lightbox.
The materials I used:
Cardboard box
Old white T-shirt
Piece of A3 paper
Tape

As lights I used some simple Ikea desk lights I had laying around, so the lighting isn't perfect.

Cost: I had everything laying around, so $0.00.

Why are we not seeing sensors this size? They can be used with normal 'full-frame' lenses as the image circle would still cover the whole sensor. It would surely be a way to bring semi-medium format to the masses, and cheaply?

/p/, help me out. I'm looking for a decent camera (16MP or better) to bring on kayak so I don't drown the Nikons (D80 & D7200)
Mostly landscape shots but lots of wildlife so decent zoom would be good. In a perfect world it would be TTL viewing with diopter adjustment since I"m old as fuck and my eyes have gone to shit.
Waterproof
Prefer to stay under 400, ideally 200ish but can go higher if needed.
thx in advance for any help.

Maybe just buy a waterproof bag? Unless you're planning on going down some serious Rapids. ... they work well as long as you are not deep diving.
>>
>>2837196
Pentax k30 or k50 with the 50 1.8 or 35 2.4 and a dry bag just in case it really gets submerged.
>>
>>2837196
The only cams, that can do this by themselves without complicated and costly cases, would be one of those toughcams, in that they can get fully submerged no problem.
Don't really have zooms though.

Have a look at the current Olympus one; seems to have various lens attachements for tele and wide.
Don't know the model number.

When i was in phuket i got drunk and lost my ricoh gr at muay thai fight. They only have a few camera shops on the island which very little range. I had to settle for a rx100m3 and honestly its the worst camera i ever used. As soon as i got back to Australia i went out and brought another gr straight away. Thats my only exposure with sony but based on that camera i wont use them again.

hi /p/

how do you avoid looking like a giant gaylord in public when taking pictures?

squatting around everywhere, squinting into the viewfinder, adjusting the lens, raising this giant, loud chunk of equipment to your head with slings and straps wagging around everywhere

it makes a pretty bad scene

how do you avoid taking pics like this

I've been thinking about getting a camera to start making vids.

Are these the best for straight up vid for around $1000? I don't want to be doing stills.

Hi /p/ quick question. Is there money in photography outside of weddings and portraits? I'm not particular against doing that kind of work, I just wanted to know if I have options.

I know photojournalism is a possibility but I feel like I would excel in a more commercial area. Also I've never quite understood if you need to be a decent writer as well as a decent photographer to be a photojournalist.

Feel free to share your experiences with photography as a source of income, I'm a beginner and any advice from long time posters would be appreciated.

And no, I don't plan on jumping into this right now, as I said I'm a beginner. I'm just trying to lay the groundwork for what I need to practice for the next two years and beyond.

You can make a wee bit of money from photojournalism if you can get decent photos with an objective write-up of something interesting.
The problem is that the market is fairly saturated with Vice and HuffPo journalists doing feature pieces left-right-and-centre for fuck all pay.
I've been looking into it myself and I have a feeling I'll probably have to take the "befriend a website" root first.

It depends on where you are, but generally, unless you're a visionary, or willing to work your ass off traveling the world and barely scraping by, it's not going to be stuff you want to do. To make money with photography, you don't take the photos you want to take, you take the photos that other people need to have taken.

If you live in the right areas, you can make money with:
-Headshots
-Product photography
-Real estate photography
-Corporate events
-Corporate security photos
-Senior portraits
-Engagement shoots
-Pet photography
-Social Media Profile photos (LinkedIn is a good one)
-Concerts
-Musician promo work / album art assets

and on and on.

pretty much no, and prospects will continue to get worse.

in 10 years time, cameras will be made obsolete with phones. they already are almost there, the only thing seperating "pro" cameras now is dynamic range and light setups. once the former is figured out, someone will begin inventing ways to solve the latter for phone photographers.

and at that point not only will everyone think theyre a professional photographer (as it is in their minds now), they really will be able to get equal results as the "pros" with minimal effort.

>but muh composition

lol

hey, /p/

i just got some really old film developed, and it turns out it was all useless. none of the film was useable as it was REALLY old, expired in 1974.

how old is too old? i also have a roll that expired in 1960, no chance of using that either right?

maybe i shot with it incorrectly, like with too short of an exposure? it was 200 ISO so probably shoot at like a quarter of that?

has anyone else shot with expired film?
