If someone crops a small part of your copyrighted work and makes very small alterations, is it still copyright infringement?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.

>>2876457
yes. copyright refers to the whole work and any part of it.
>>
>>2876457
Lawyer here.

Short answer: Most likely, yes. In the instance you've shown, yes.

Longer answer: It really depends. There, of course, are exceptions to using copyrighted material in certain circumstances, such as for analysis/discussion, or for creating further art, etc. It all depends on what you're doing, why you're doing it, how you're doing it, and what, exactly, was copyrighted in the original material. 99.9% of the time, my advice is not to fuck around with copyrighted material, especially if you're using it in any even remotely commercial way.

What about that guy that takes pictures of random peoples instagram posts and sells them for dozens of dollars as art?

Okay /p/ I need some advice
I'll be buying a used D700 body next week for pretty cheap ($600AUD) but I can't decide what lens to get.
I need something that I can pick up for pretty cheap, don't want to spend more than 400-500.
What do you recommend?

What's the creative process when it comes to shooting photography? Is it all spontaneous? Or do you brainstrom an idea of what you want to photograph? I am a graphic designer and i haven't dabbled in fine photography where i am the composer and photographer.

My process is writing and brainstorming an idea that best expresses the message. Then i sketch and create.

Tl;dr? Who do i compose?

Why do you assume there would be a common creative process? This is not how creativity works. Do whatever works for you.
>>
>>2876473

what's the problem with wanting to know what is is that works for others?
>>
>>2875939
sometimes you go out and take a shot youve been thinking about

sometimes you just go out for a bit with no intentions and end up with gold

sometimes you see something when youre out youve seen similar photographs of and you copy it or try and improve it

just take pictures of whatever you want whenever you want

If you are not a professional, how important is color space coverage?

Just how bad is a display that only covers 60% of sRGB in practice?
4 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>2875898
you can render adobe RGB on an sRGB screen just fine for most editing, you just don't see everything you're doing (multiple colors are mapped to the same RGB values). by the way, it's not that aRGB monitors have more vivid greens, it's that they display more colors in between. there's no monitor in existence that actually renders the prophoto color space properly, but it's still very useful for editing.
http://schewephoto.com/sRGB-VS-PPRGB/
proper color management (incorporated more or less automatically these days into photoshop/lightroom) lets you soft-proof to see how the image will actually print. it's much more important that your monitor is accurately calibrated to its color space than that it have aRGB support.
Fun fact: most monitors don't even technically support the full sRGB specs, and the ones that do cost thousands of dollars. and many printers these days only want sRGB anyway.
>>
>>2875953
>proper color management (incorporated more or less automatically these days into photoshop/lightroom) lets you soft-proof to see how the image will actually print
Could you please tell how? I'm not a fan of calibration software since most monitors are not calibrated. Also I tended to push colors green or yellow with it. I'm not op btw.
>>
>>2875958
>I'm not a fan of calibration software since most monitors are not calibrated.
there's part of your problem. yes, some people will display your pictures wrong, but if you're not working in sRGB you don't have any point of reference at all. not all calibration software and equipment is equal, the cheap stuff is pretty crappy. and low-quality monitors can only do so much -- if there is only partial coverage, you will see banding artifacts etc. that aren't actually there when it's properly calibrated. but you have to at least do basic visual calibration or fundamental features of your photos are gonna be fucked up
http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/

>color management
it's complicated. most of it's handled by modern software, so on Windows 7+ or modern macs there is a color profile for your monitor that the OS knows. serious photo editing software (lightroom, photoshop) is color managed. so if you use photoshop, you are pretty safe. just make sure you keep track of which color space you're working in.

>Just how bad is a display that only covers 60% of sRGB in practice?
sorry I misread this as aRGB at first. I have never used a 60% sRGB monitor for editing, I imagine it might be frustrating

Or a tracking shot of a moving subject. It's not uncommon to bump ISO in sports photography to maintain high shutter speed, and with auto sports you may also want to stop down to get more of the car in focus and it makes the background more dynamic.
But else can you expect from a frog-posting memester?

Are there any Soviet lenses that are as cheap and good quality as the Helios 44, but with different focal lenghts, like 28mm or 135mm?

I'm currently shooting on my cheapish Pentax K-x and I really love my Helios 44-2, it totally blows my Pentax zoom lenses out of the water in every aspect. I want to get some better gear, but the newer lenses are damn expensive, I'd like to stay with cheapish manual focus ones for now.

Gonna visit the flea market sometime soon, hoping to find something decent.
>>
>>2874279
Pentacon 135/2.8 is an excellent portrait lens, there is a not so cheap version called the "Bokehmonster" with 15 aperture blades.
There are MIR wide lenses that are essentially Flektogon copies and there are numerous Jupiter lenses that are generally have warm color rendering.
Look around the Pentaxforums lens database, there are numerous M42 lenses with example shots.

I went to a TWP rally on Sunday in Sacramento (as a neutral party). For those not familiar, the Traditionalist Workers Party is a far right nationalist group with a lot of white supremacist ideals. Obviously ANTIFA was there and things ended up getting pretty crazy.

What's your travel set-up /p/?

This is what I've been running with for a couple of years or so now and it's been fine, but I've found that I probably could do with an UWA zoom. Leaning towards that noice Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 VC USD. Also considered getting a 70-200mm f/2.8 VC USD, but my friend who used to own one said it's too big and bulky to be traveling around with, especially for street shooting.

Bag is a Cyclus Pangolin by the way. I paid waay too much for it $500 in total. Shipping itself was about $120...

I have a question /p/ I found a Tokina SZ-X 282 f3.5-5.3 that was fitted to an old Olympus OM PC in my house. What size adapter do I need to be able to fit it to a Micro 4/3 OMD EM-10?
