Photography has been a commercially popular pastime for over a century. Nobody is looking at you.

Go find someplace else to feel persecuted.

I am looking to do some freelance work to make some money on the side. I took some pictures for a friend of a house they were selling (they paid me 50 bucks) and it only took an hour.

How do I find work? What skills do I need? Do I just need to know how to take pictures, or do I need to know editing? (I know no photoshop at all). I don't want to look unprofessional. I would kill to make a measly extra 200 bucks a month.

Currently I have a Canon 5D Mark III with these lenses (all manuals):

Nikkor 135mm, 85mm, 35, 50mm, 28-105mm

I probably need more lenses, or at least an auto-focus I bet (they cost so much!).

It depends.
>>
Those lenses should be fine for now. You don't NEED autofocus in many cases...though it would probably be best if you want to break the habit of using live view and zooming in to ensure sharpness.
Now obviously some lenses are better than others in regards to sharpness, wide-angle(for interiors, some landscapes) etc. but honestly, don't worry about that shit.

Figure out what you're good at and whether you can do it with what you have. The most important part of paid photography if the confidence that you can get a job done.

You got paid for the house photos, which means that they aren't shit. Perhaps contact real estate agencies about photographing new listings or improving existing ones? Comb through local listings and ask yourself if you can do better. If you can, call the agent...cold calls are the best you can do in the beginning.

You can also consider selling stock...I suggest looking that up on YouTube. Lots of videos on it.

tl;dr you can photograph anything, with anything, and make good money so long as you take the photo well.

I have enough background in film to be able to get the lighting, focus, all good for crisp pictures, even indoors.

But I wouldn't be able to touch up the pictures at all (and for houses I don't see why I would need to). I am not interested in doing glamour shots and crap, but I will do anything for money. I will just let them know ahead of time that I don't color-correct/touch up pictures.

why is people not talking about polaroids resurrection?

also, why cant people make aesthetic looking instant cameras anymore? Instax are horrid and this one tries soooooo hard to be "vintage", looks like an old telephone, ugly and pseudo minimal.

>why is people not talking about polaroids resurrection?

Because they've already been making film for a while now and a $300 dollar new polaroid camera is so far from resurrection
>>
>>2850276
where are the goddamn manual controls on this motherfucker seriously.

You know who could just rip through the market with a relatively easy to produce camera? Fucking Fuji.
A manual Instax camera would be THE thing of 2017. You can't even imagine. Their instax film is cheaper too and looks way better. give this thing a nice lens and more manual control, put a 400 dollar price tag on it and BE the trend for the next, say, 4 years.
>>
>>2850303
Apparently you can control the camera through an app on your phone

Not really a great solution in my opinion though

I was thinking of getting a Press Pass from the International Freelance Photography Organisation (website- www.aipress.com). It would get me access to photographer only areas, among other things.

Anyone here have any experience with them?

Pic semi-related, one of my newbie works with a Pentax KS-1, criticism welcomed.

I tried to upload one of my pictures but 4chan kept crashing subbed with IFPO banner
>>
Either you have the kit and look like a photographer and can just walk in places or you've shown up at a gig which needs prior arrangement but in my experience a press pass that isn't from a local organisation isn't worth shit
>>
A 'press pass' from IFPO is worthless. It's as legitimate as something you make yourself in Microsoft Paint and print off at home.

I am about a year and a bit into photography and I'm just learning how to use lightroom and photoshop. I love it though and this board has helped a lot. I just learned a bit about HDR and although I don't like it, I do like knowing how to do it. Canon 7D user.

That's a nice picture for a start.
HDR is a tool that need to be used the right way. Since the 7D lack of dynamic range, you can work of getting more opposite light tones in your pictures.

Roxanne,
You don't have to put on the red light!

Does this make you think of a father losing his daughter to prostitution like it does me? Maybe the number of beautiful men it took to fuck a C-average college student crazy. The history behind these stories and rooms - those lights. The idea that these were created for solely women, the little shade, the theme and reoccurring nightmares. The violent, hot, sexual tone and the ragged geometry. The lack of upkeep. What disease and hate was spread out on those walls. Death. The disappointment and musk is the only effect this photo offers.

The lighting it took to take this stupid picture when the very focus of the fucking picture is a fucking light-bulb. What is this, after hours?
>There is literally nothing aesthetically pleasing about this photo to me except the The White Stripes color scheme and memory of that Police song.

>In addition, Sony decided to terminate the development and manufacturing of high-functionality camera modules for external sale, the mass production of which was being prepared at the Kumamoto Technology Center, as a result of a reconsideration of the strategy of this business from a long-term perspective. Approximately 30 billion yen in expense is expected to be incurred due to this termination.

Nikon are completely capalable of manufacturing their own sensors, and by that I mean renesas is which is part of the Mitsubishi group as well as Nikon (and Hitachi who make Nikon processors) at the very most it would be a slight inconvenience.

On another note, Fuji have a partnership with Panasonic and are working on organic sensors, I doubt they were ever thinking about using a competitors product long term. I highly doubt that Fuji would have trouble sourcing sensors regardless of their close partnership with Panasonic who manufactures a fuck load of sensors already.

Stupid thread
>>
Still worthwhile having a thread for, very interesting as it'll induce more diversity into the camera market, as opposed to a small set of sony sensors being used in 2/3 of cameras sold.
>>
>>2846621

I am more curious to know how this would affect Olympus? I know about Nikon sensor production and renesas but I dont know anything about Olympus.. Doesnt Sony own part of the company?

Olympus was using Panasonic sensors until they had all that trouble and then I thought Sony purchased part of the company and Olympus started using Sony sensors...

aka /ppg/ aka how do I achieve this look aka how did he do it aka what presets do I need for my snaps to resemble this one aka I can't be bothered to try shit for myself

as anons suggested here's a thread where to ask about how to "get that look" in post, since people are obviously interested in it but having these threads around steals space from more meaningful things like pictures being posted, or sony shilling
obviously the purpose of this is to get better and learn from this so you can stop being told how to do stuff and we can stop spending time telling you

to get the look in pic related, which I found on google and have no idea who it belongs to, you need to
reduce contrast
reduce saturation a bit
make everything yellower, use curves or apply a mask or however you prefer
make the blues/light blues greener by using the hue slider
apply a lot of grain

I love the idea of having this thread. Thanks for posting.

Don't forget to add a section about "To match the look of an image, you must first match the scene, the light, the color, and the exposure of the image in your own work"

Bumping so newfags see this.

I suggested making this thread in a shitpost thread. Thanks OP for helping out.

Hey /p/, post your best smartphone photos you have. Prove the world that you don't need expensive cameras to take good pictures.

I don't need an expensive camera to take good pictures I do need, however, talent and creativity, things I sadly don't.
