So I recently learned how they used to make halftones for newsprints of photographs. They had a filter that was covered in tiny cones. The intensity of the light passing through the cone determined the size of the dot that would appear on the other side. Does anyone know what the formal term for these sheets are? I'd like to find some to make halftones from film negatives.

If we get a formal name we can look them up properly. Google doesn't give me anything because my phrase is too long.
I've tried everything: "halftone sheets" "halftone negative filter" etc.

Not a 100% sure but I believe newspapers these days are printed use wide-web flexo presses. Based off the assumption that they're being printed flexo it sounds like you're describing a solvent-based photopolymer plate making process where you expose a light-sensitive rubber-like plate to either a positive or a negative of the image to harden the substrate in specific areas to create your dots.
Modern plate making processes etch these these dots using a laser avoiding dealing with the chemicals and the problematic handling and disposal that comes with solvent based plate making. Additionally, digital plate making supposedly provides more uniform dot structure and some interesting flat-top dot shapes.
We outsource the plates we use at our print-shop and I've only been working here for two years so take what I say with a very large grain of salt.
In terms of photopolymer plates you can google "flexo" + dupont, kodak, fujifilm, flint group, asahi, macdermid to name the manufacturers that i know of. You pay per inch of material and we typically pay around $50 per plate. Dont know how you'll apply ink and transfer it to substrate without a printer but have fun anyway.

Why are you taking pictures? Do you aspire to actually translate your work from hobbyism to art? Do you think you'll accomplish that through /p/?
There are a lot of threads questioning things in photography, be it naive, but I'm interested in how many people here are actually interested in photography as something else than a hobby.

I shoot photos because the process and the results make me happy personally. That feeling has caused me to collect skills and "good enough" photos that people have started asking me to take photos for them for different things. Portraits, events, etc. I may someday make enough money from it to quit my day job, but really the joy from the process, and seeing a good photo come off the card are the reasons that I do it.

i should start with apologizes for such a shitty thread but i have no idea who can i ask if not my dear /p/
as ive written i need to buy a gift for someone who is into photography, so i thought about this book beside fact that i havent read it, so if anyone of you has read it ill be glad to listen sugestions
Ask them who their favorite photographer is and get them a book of their work.

This.
Books on how to photography are usually pretty shitty colorfully worded translations of the manual.
This is a very good book to give a new photographer as a gift
I was doing some film photography with an Old Yashica TL-Electro, and there were massive light leaks on all my photos. Massive red streaks down the middle of all my shots.
I checked the seal of my camera, because, you know, 40 y/o camera is 40 years old. But it was fine. I guess someone at Walgreens mucked up my photos. I'm not too butthurt, but I do want to save some of my shots.
I edited the scans I received, and I was able to make the photos black and white by deleting the parts of the layer on RBG that were causing issues.
Of course, that turned...

This is another one. They aren't really that good of photographs to be begin with, but, I'm alright with that.
You should start by posting an unedited picture so we can see the kind of light leak you're getting.
If you're looking for critique on the set then I'll give you it when you post the whole lot of them
>>2803979
I don't have the unedited photos on my phone. If I was at home I would deliver, but I don't have shit here.
I don't know if it'll help, but I've got a shitty ass shot that sorta has the leak on it, if a little less extreme, I'll attach that.
I'm really sorry I can't help anon!
I'll post up the other two edited ones for critique, though!

Hi!
With all due respect, I would like to know what do I have to set at lightroom to export a photo with high quality but with a small size.
Thank you.
i dont believe its possible.
>>2803601
File > Export
Set the jpg quality setting to 75. See http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/jpeg-quality
Under Image Sizing, have it resize to fit 1000x1000. This will make sure the largest side is no more than 1000px.
You can set the output sharpening to Screen and Low, if you think it helps.

So someone on here suggested that I read Bryan Peterson's understanding exposure. I bought the 3rd edition from 2010. But I didn't notice that a 4th one had come out the 15th of March this year. I'm half way through the 3rd edition, should I stop here and start reading the newer version now? Or will the 3rd edition suffice?
Thanks in advance.

Also no. Bad composition, no subject, whites are blown, blacks too dark, contrast too high. It's almost impressive how utterly terrible it is.
