How much better am I now than all of you?

You have a camera that can take photos, just like everyone else on this board.
>>
>>2715526

No I don't think you understand. I'm DEFINITELY better than you now, I just want to know how much.

How does /p/ feel about purposefully adding grain to a photo? It seems rather counter intuitive when most are trying to make their images as clear as possible.

This is an image I recently added slight amount to. I personally believe in some cases it adds a texture to the image, makes it look real and alive.

Thought?

editing photos in general is dumb and if you cant take a proper photo without the need to edit its exposure, composition, etc you should stop taking pictures or switch to film to learn the basics of photography
>>
>>2713882
aah yes, because taking advantage of technological advancements its such a fucking crime.
>>
>>2713886
>taking advantage of
you said it yourself..
if you can't shoot with proper exposure, framing, composition, color. contrast, etc. dont pretend that you can.

they are all the same. i wouldn't waste your money on one right now to be honest. the film is just way too expensive. BUT if you have the cash....

get the polaroid sx-70 onestep. its the one i have and will make you an EXTRA dirty hipster.

i have another type that i got at a garage sale (the best place to get polaroid cameras for cheap) but again, haven't used it, because the film is too expensive.

Do you plan on using it? Why no Instax, they are ugly as fuck but at least they don't make you poor
>>

I do, actually.
I like the appeal of those old instant photos. Nostalgia if you will.

Taking a terrible photo of nothing on an interesting medium is still a terrible photo of nothing. What about these scenes necessitates (or even remotely lends itself to) an instant format?

Hey /p/

So I recently purchased a Canon EOS 6D with the 24-105mm f4 and I am now trying to build up my lens collection. I have a bit of money to spend but I don't want to blow it on an expensive lens when something cheaper will do just as well from my purposes (total casual when it comes to photography; first DSLR).

So here's what I'd like to get within the next few months:
50mm prime
85mm prime
35mm prime
70-200 telephoto
Wide angle

Now, as far as prime lenses, the Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art has jumped out at me, but it's a bit more than I wanted to spend on one lens at this point. I could either go with the Sigma, or instead pick up the Canon 50mm 1.4 as well as a Canon 35mm or 85mm. Which would you recommend?

I was also looking at the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM as a telephoto. I also noticed they have another one has image stabilization, but it's also about twice as much. Should I get the one with IS or go with the cheaper one?

Haven't looked too much into the Wide angles. Any you could recommend?

I know I'm kinda asking a lot of questions. I'm just new to this, and I was hoping for some informed opinions on the subject. Much appreciated.

Is the image quality really negligible between the 1.8 and the 1.4 (or 1.2)? I'd like to get the best quality possible without spending more than a grand.
>>
>>2716007
The Nifty Fifty is about $125, so you can get 8 of them to cover all of your needs.

No camera is to much for a noob.

Heres the only advice you need, don't come back to /p/ until you've shot your first 10k frames, you don't need these dicks ruining your early experiences.

Oh also, don't be a gear fag. Nice gear is nice, buy when it comes down to it, you're taking the photo.
>>
>>2715967
what this guy said times 5

come back when you are confident enough to post a few photos, then get ready to be harshly criticized, learn from it and repeat

my other tips:
>Go look at other/find pictures/photographers that you like and try out different styles, you never know if you like people portraits or landscapes more

>Avoid facebook and social media sites, they are most likely to not give you any advice, but instead, give you dis-honest praise, instead of lessons. People there tend to be too polite and just say "what a lovely picture" instead of "your picture of the sunset is cliche and too fucking blown out"

>You can read up on as many books/vlogs/tutorials all you want, but the best way to learn is to take photos, so take tons of them

>For the love of god, avoid watermarks
>>
>>2715981
Why avoid watermarks. Won't people just steal your work if you don't add "My Name Photography" at the bottom?
