Is the Lenspen the only lens cleaning tool I will ever need or will I need other cleaning tools also?

Is that a light trail of something? Not sure if the tilt helps or hinders this photo. Otherwise a pretty decent shot I guess.

I really should've wiped down that shot but vodka has a way with making one less attentive! And its 4am.

I realised I stripped the EXIF data! Sorry lads.

Shooting a D7000 with a 35mm in the first shot and 11mm in the second. 1/250 f/8 for both of them.

First shot used a gelled blue flash to the camera left and a bare flash shot into the bottle from below. .

Second shot used gelled orange flash for camera left fill and 6in softboxed light for the right.

Just fucking around with some strobes in the early hours of the morning.

Hey /p/ I want to start in the Fashion Photography world and I think the best way to start is making a review about the best classical fashion photographers , the ones who make history and influece the actual photographers.
Who do you think they are and why?

i want to do more landscape photography and researched on buying polarizers, i found out that to reduce vignette you should buy a step up ring

currently im switching between two lenses with threads 49mm and 58mm respectively however i read that most people buy 77mm filters. i feel like difference in thread is too much where (i think) it will cause problems in my pictures; im i wrong? is it safe to buy all my filters at 77mm and just buy a step up ring?

Use a cheap Cokin P set with adapter rings and get a decent circular polarizer for it.

How would you evaluate the above image, or the one included in this post?
>>
>>2784215
Literally how effective I think it is. In other words, whether or not I think it 'works'. I don't think any image is perfect but some are stronger than others. It depends entirely on the image in question, and there is no exact formula for every single image that is universal. Even "good light" or "good composition" means different things in different images.

For example, in the photo you posted the composition is busy, but IMHO it's busy in a good way. It's a city street corner so it's supposed to be busy, and I find the lack of actual people in the image + the dog is making me curious.

YMMV though. Some would say it's a snapshit.
>>
>>2784215

>dog waiting at a crosswalk with no owner in sight
>hydrant in foreground, dog probably visited hydrant in his doggy dog daily world
>dog intersected by pole
>dog in "dog house" intersected by stoplight pole in the background
>corner of the car instantly gives the photo a feel of time and place
>everything seems to be facing left, like snoots on stoplight, shadow of street sign on white column, the car on the white, the electric pole leans to the left, all linear perspective points to the left. this gives a sense of "something's about to happen", which is especially reinforced by the dog looking left.

sup /p/,

Currently I've earned some money, which I want to spend on the camera that will by my sole everyday companion. The problem is that I'm allured to Leica M8, on which I have found a pretty good deal recently. I like it's compactiness, simplicity of use, I really love RF focusing, but I know that if I eventually start studio work, this camera will be a pain in the ass to work with.

I was also considering some fool frame DSLR, such as Nikon D3 or Canon 5Dmk2 but as I mentioned - I want to carry this camera with me everyday and I'm afraid those will be too bulky to walk with around.

So what would be my best bet? Muh megapickels and ISO perfomance are not a much of a dealbreaker for me, i find those ~11 mpx sufficient for my work, though I'm not sure if parallax will be not an issue.

I've been using both film SLRs and RFs, but only for fun and play, and saying something like
>buy film Leica and DSLR/Sony A7
is actually out of question.

lol just buy an xpro1, M8s are terrible cameras.

Aren't the lenses expensive as fuck?

Only the expensive ones are. 16-50, 27mm are both easily available under $250

I suggest an xpro1 instead because it's also a good platform for adapting rangefinder glass to, but a far better camera than an M8 in pretty much any given metric. The OVF is rather useless (sort of; more on that in a minute) for it, and the EVF is the oldest, slowest one in the Fuji lineup, but they're pretty cheap cameras now, and if you're not spastic, should find it usable.

re: the ovf, you can feed it frameline information via the menu to match whatever adapted lens youre using, but there is no rangefinder mechanism. There is however a shortcut button to toggle quickly to the zoomed in evf view for precision focusing, and then back again to the ovf (press the back dial in rather than using the front lever to swap to the evf full-time)
While this isn't a rangefinder, using it this way is, in practice, very similar to using an uncoupled rangefinder (a rangefinder where the framelines and rangefinder mechanism require you to move your eyes between two seperate finders) except without the actual physical movement between.

Sounds shitty if you're romanticizing shooting a rangefinder like a pretend war photographer, focusing to and fro with the accuracy of the gods, but in my experience most rangefinder users tend to spend as much, if not more time simply using the rangefinder to pre-focus, rarely aiming for critical focus with any speed anyway. RF shooting does not tend to be the realm of bokehwhores, after all.

How do you do it properly with a digital camera?

Here is a random picture from the web that illustrates the problems I face when trying to take photographs at night. The core of the highlights are almost completely white. The borders where the highlights clipped are sharp.

So how do you do it right? I would assume multiple exposures but the picture that the program made when I combined them looked horrible.

Advice please.

I'm not an expert, but just in case it helps, look up HDR photography.

Unless I'm wrong, it seems to be for just that kind of situation.
Combining underexposed, normal and overexposed shots together so that there is both detail in the dark areas and in the light areas simultaneously, impossible to the same extent with a single ordinary shot.

Color balance sliders in PS

Set your shutter speed around 5 seconds and work your way to 30 seconds depending on the light

Try to look for subjects that have other light sources such as street lights lighting them but trt to avoid having them in the frame

Avoid having sources of light pointed directly at the camera, like the other anon said. Also avoid having big sources of light too close to the frame, as your eye will keep pulling to them (they're distracting).

One other issue with the photo you posted is that the sky is (IMO) too dark. The whole cityscape is very dark, so in order to set an exposure that reveals details in the buildings you have to expose longer which blows highlights.

Digital cameras, especially those with Sony sensors (Sony, Nikon, Pentax cameras), are actually better at pulling details out of the shadows than they are with highlights (the opposite is true with most film stock). Thus I'd typically recommend actually underexposing the scene and then bring out shadow details in post. Again though, the scene posted is very dark, so it could be tricky and you may have to do some HDR to get it to look right.

Honestly though, I think most cityscape images look best when the sky hasn't completely darkened yet. Right after the sun goes down there will still be a fair amount of ambient light for another 30-45 minutes, which helps balance the exposure of darker/unlit areas of the scene with brighter areas, or areas of light.
