Given it's all open source and literally anyone can develop for it, why don't smaller, or ambitious camera companies like Vivitar, Polaroid, Ricoh, GoPro, Moultrie, Yamaha, Schneider-Optik or Kodak try their hand at making cameras and lenses for Micro Four Thirds?
On that note, why don't companies like Toshiba who already make sensors give it a go? Or companies that have been kicked out of the camera industry but still make other stuff like Casio or Celestron?
Even Samsung could expect to reasonably compete if it enters itself into a system which already...

Stop pulling everyone else down to your miserable level. If you don't have anything of value to say just don't, and if you can't make yourself feel good but through being condescending guess what, it'll only make yourself more and more miserable because all you see is misery in others and in yourself.

Is it normal for Photoshop to be using 9GB of memory? I know video editing chews up a lot more, but I didn't expect to be using this much with PS.

Is there something I can do to optimize this?

Photoshop keeps the memory for future uses to avoid memory fragmentation.

Well my PC is older and has only 8GB of memory which has never slowed PS down. Yours seems to have 16GB of memory and it looks like PS is using more because it's able to use more. By default I'm guessing that PS uses a good chunk of your RAM, at least on something without panoramic stitching, so it can finish faster. There's probably a way to change this but I'm not sure how.

I have 16GB installed, but I guess some of it is forcibly system reserved. Seems like I've hit a bottleneck though.

Premier Pro uses upto 14GB from time to time...

Time to upgrade to 32GB DDR4?

I want to get a pocket camera.
The Pentax Q has plummeted in price and the older Ricoh GRD2 is also pretty low in price.

Neither has an optical viewfinder . . but i can put one on if i feel the need.

Both have the same sensor size. Both are about the same pickles.

only advantage is the Q can switch lenses and i can get the 8.5mm prime if i dont like the kit zoom. but that 5.6 crop ratio . . . what lenses could i possibly use.

how do i choose.

Hey /p/. I am going to Iceland in a couple of weeks and I intend to photograph the Northern Lights if I'm lucky. I want to know how decent of a picture I would get from my current camera. I do not intend to purchase another, so I hope that's not an answer I receive. Here are the details:

>Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ200
>It's DSLR-"like" compact (off to a bad start, I know)
>Lowest aperture f/2.8 .. 60 sec max shutter speed

Can I get a good picture? Have it look decent in color, maybe some scenery in the background etc.? I can't even find a sample pic of someone trying (probably a bad sign).

Pic is some guy using a LUMIX-G5 (Mirrorless, I believe)

How do I go about this? I have my own website with a section of it devoted to the shows that I have shot, but those shows have been at my cousins venue in NYC.

The websites of venues I want to go to and photograph bands don't have any sort of contact page or submission process defined on their website for press passes. Have any of you shot at Toad's place in New Haven CT, or Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford CT? or the Iron Horse Auditorium in North Hampton Mass??

Should I just call the venue and ask what the venue's managers email is?

Help /p/

most of the time you'll need to contact the bands manager. They're the ones in charge of photo passes.
>>
you're either gonna request the band's touring manager or the venue's press coordinator

after a little googling, toad's place is fairly small so it shouldn't be hard while oakdale is pretty big. iron horse seems in the middle. not sure what artists you're trying to shoot but that plays a big part

bigger bands couldn't give less of a fuck about you or your photos. they're touring for weeks and the same photos are gonna be snapped over and over again

the people who truly care about those repeat boring photos are local...

Clean your lens, take off any filters, put on a hens hood.
I get flaring on my 56mm 1.2 XF often, but usually it's because there's something on the lens and I'm not using a hood.
>>
>>2739130
UV filter on? they cause huge glare and ghosting sometimes.
>>
>>2739130
The light is hitting your sensor, bouncing back, hitting your rear element, and then going back to your sensor again. It's a common problem.

Hey /p/, I have a weird issue.

I recently bought an Olympus OM-System F.Zuiko Auto-S 50mm f1.8 lens, and it works perfectly fine, but my camera has a weird issue.

On manual setting in Still Shot Mode, the Live View image is a lot darker than the final image the camera takes which is verrry annoying.

However if I move the camera into Video Mode the Live View image is accurate to any pictures or footage I shoot there.

Now normally that'd be fine, but in Video Mode it won't obviously let me change my shutter speed to any slower...

>>
From my experiences using Manual lenses on the EOS M & M3 system.
Live View doesn't support manual lenses very well. If you stop down, the image will become darker in liveview but focusing will be accurate.
Shutter speed matters a tonne here. You want to pay attention to the camera lightmeter/exposure bar when shooting with manual glass.

A trick to using the Canon Liveview system when it's too dark stopped down is to increase your iso, focus, reset iso to desired target and set your shutter speed accordingly.
It's not the best system in the...

Hi!

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I thought you guys might be able to help me out: my Panasonic lumix GF7 recently fell from an 1 meter high window sill. Now, when I turn it on, it's showing these horizontal colored stripes on the screen (screen itself is fine, menu and everything is working, nothing wrong with the lens either). It looks like something is wrong with the sensor, however I'm not entirely sure.

I opened up the camera to take a look, but I don't dare to remove the ribbons, so I can't really see what's up with the sensor. Maybe you guys have a clue? I hope it's just a loose ribbon or something (that can be easily re-attached by someone with a more steady hand and better tools), otherwise it's probably not worth fixing (I bought it second hand for half the original price, and figured that fixing a sensor might be really expensive).

Attached is a picture of how the screen looks like! When I do manual zoom, the stripes distort! ISO and all these functions are not working tho.
