My girlfriend recently bought herself a Nikon 1 J5.
She and I are aware that it's not the best camera to start with serious photography per se, but she bought it and she loves it.
I want to buy her a lens for it but I am not too sure as to what I should be looking at.
Any help, /p/?

Don't waste your money on anything right now because neither you nor her know what the fuck you want or need.
A new lens is not going to make her a better photographer. It's not going to do jack shit.
Take whatever money you were going to spend and use it to take her out on a nice date. Go all out. Have fun. Eat was great food. Go to a show and get the best fucking tickets in the house. Get a suite in the best hotel in town for a night. Just...

>I want to buy her a lens for it but I am not too sure as to what I should be looking at.
Then you don't need anything. It's simple: if you weren't getting the shots you wanted because you need some equipment, you would know exactly what to buy. Put that money in a savings account and use it when you actually need something.
>Eat was great food
what the fuck mate
Is the following camera and lens good for photogrammetry ? Is anyone here even into this ?
Canon EOS 1300D
EF-S 18-55mm IS
Is this good for photogrammetry ?

No, you need a prime lens. It makes no sense to purchase a zoom lens for photogrammetry, especially one without a lock. Zoom lenses have precisely the wrong properties for photogrammetry, and cause processing to fail if you change the focal length accidentally, as the software has to assume that the focal length is constant in order to perform the coordinate mapping.
Nothing particularily wrong with the camera, but there's better ones to buy with photogrammetry in mind.
The best lenses for photogrammetry are primes between 35-65mm equivalent, (So on APS-C...

So yeah, I'll give good combinations per manufacturer / setup
Canon APS-C: anything 550D+ or 60D+ have sufficient detail for most photogrammetry, then use EF-S 24mm which is very cheap and has very good characteristics for photogrammetry.
Canon FF: Get a used 6D + EF 35mm f2.0 IS OR EF 40mm f2.8 which is cheaper and super sharp from the get go.
You can look up the Nikon equivalents if you want.
I wouldn't reccomend Fuji, I have the X-e2 and I long for when I did photogrammetry with my canon. If you do choose mirrorless, the X-e2 is the best...

You can do photogrammetry with a fucking cell phone. Just make sure the lighting and white balance doesn't change. Manual mode.
How do you achieve pictures like these? I don't see people taking pictures like these anymore, for the most part.
I know the clothes, etc. give it away, but, apart from that, there's just something very unique to that period's style, but I can't quite put my finger on it. What is it exactly?
I know I could shoot in b/w and it would look nothing like this. There's like some sort of glow or blur or something about the lighting.
Am I onto something here or just being retarded?

>>2862536
I'm going to watch that, I will never understand why you americans have to be so "over the top" with such stories. "She was so secretive, weird! Maybe she was a spy!", really?
>>2862615
Because we're all bored and boring, and our imaginations go crazy.
>>2862615
I don't know if you are referring to an actual statement from someone, but there is an actual part in the doc where someone gives a first hand account of picking her up on the side of the road, and her telling them she was a spy. Obviously she's not, and the documentary doesn't make her out to be anything other than a crazy bitch honestly. She even abused some of the children she took care of.
Hi, beginner here. Can't afford any paid apps so I'm stuck using Gimp.
Is it good enough, and any tips or good tutorials for it?
>>2862504
Yes good enough.
Use Darktable or Raw Therapee for processing raws and basic corrections. it's faster and has a better filebrowser attached

For what? Pro work? no, it's not good enough. For a hobby? Yeah Probably.

>David Gilkey, a photojournalist with National Public Radio, and his Afghan translator were killed in an ambush in southern Afghanistan on Sunday while traveling in an Afghan army convoy, according to the news organization.
RIP :(
http://www.wsj.com/articles/npr-photographer-david-gilkey-killed-in-afghanistan-1465165311
>David covered war in Afghanistan and Iraq, the earthquake in Haiti and the Ebola epidemic in Liberia. He spent time with Syrian refugees in Toledo, Ohio, and captured the stories of schoolchildren in Kabul.
>His work added the visual to an organization devoted to sound. David's images presented the atrocities of war, the destruction of nature — and most importantly, their impact upon people. His photographs and videos were haunting in their beauty and poignant in their nuance. Every person and every scene was captured with care, moving beyond the news to the personal struggle and perseverance of the people who lived it.
>"It's not just reporting. It's not just taking pictures," he said about the work he did in Haiti. "It's, 'Do those visuals, do the stories, do they change somebody's mind enough to take action?'
>"So if we're doing our part, it gets people to do their part. Hopefully."

the problem is in your wrists, they draw too much atention.

the jacket also fits your form too much, like the latex jumpsuits in britney spears music videos. slim-fitting jackets are good, but
also the pocket square, giant watch, and wrist accessories looks like you are trying to play the 'classy gentleman whos got stuff figure out, taking his girlfriend out to prom and a milkshake'
you don't look cool or funny, even ironically with your dumb smirk and hand gesture, you just look like you are trying too hard.

Hey just curious if any of you can help me out. I was curious on how to do certain editing effects. What program would be needed to cut a person out that's dancing and put them over another video.
Basically what's a good video editing program out there? I'm using Filmora but I can't for the life of me find out how to overlay a video on top of another video. I could do it in other programs but this one is strange.

I know this is a photography section. But I thought you guys would be the most informed about this on 4chan
Lots of options.
Export each frame as a jpg and edit with a transparency in photoshop
Or Use proper effects software like adobe after effects or 'alternative' software and mask, export, and overlay.
Ive never tried but that is probably what I would start with
>>2863487
Now, this is probably not the best way but you could try in Photoshop to select that colour range in that specific area to get the shape from all frames, won't be smooth or it'll take too much time or may not even work, but I'm no video editor.
First time I tried my hand at photography, thoughts?
