Yeah, some underwater test shots would be nice.
Preferably with water that has the chemical consistency of either pool water or the sea/ocean.
Also preferably with human skin as subject. To study at what distance it can take pictures that still show enough skin details. My guess is 2 meters is already too far.
For the purpose of academic research, undoubtedly !

Post your camera and lens arsenal, critique others, get suggestions for your next purchase.

Ignoring the fact that it is generic-hipster-instagram crap...

The general photographic term most relevant would probably be 'environmental portrait'.
>>
>>2740379

I should add that the 'environment' term isn't because of the nature/outdoors elements - it's not the definition in that sense.

Just google 'environmental portrait' and you'll see lots of examples.

>Superior Sony Sensors

Excuse my ignorance.. But why are so many companies relying on Sony sensors? I keep reading about how no one can keep up or compete with the quality sensors that Sony are producing.

What I do not understand is why Nikon even needs t buy Sony sensors??? And why Canon sensors are inferior?

RED sensors outperform all these other manufacturers and they are significantly smaller companies so why the fuck are Nikon and Canon having so much trouble?

Quick sidenote

The requirements for photo sensors are different than those for video, and the facilities needed to produce sensors, especially in large numbers, are not cheap to build nor maintain. You also have the market for each respective sensor. Nikon and Canon(photo) have a market that is much smaller and less lucrative than the market for RED, and the cost of R&D has to be offset by the money made back by the products. RED makes more per camera than Nikon or Canon do, and although the amount produced is smaller, these...

Pt. 2
But they've managed to do that because they focused on the sensors and have had control of the entire manufacturing process, as well and custom tailoring their cameras to these sensors. RED is a company that depends on their sensors performance, unlike Canikon, which depend on their system(lenses, cameras, accessories) being able to cover the needs of professionals. If RED sensors don't perform at the level Hollywood demands, they won't...

Hey /p/, I'm a beginner in photography and today I was speaking about it with a friend with the same interest, she was talking about the idea of taking a photography class or some shit like that, is that really necessary to became any good with a camera? I just started fucking around with my Nikon on manual and bought some books, is this not enough? What do you think about it?

Classes give you skills that you can easily get without the class, however, classes keep you working on a regular basis, and focus you towards skills and processes that you might get more slowly without it.

You don't need a class at all, but as a beginner, being given focused projects, interspersed with basic compositional theory and technical information can get you going a lot faster than merely having a camera around while you lay in your living room.
>>
>>2743704

You don't need to, but it can be useful. Classes are usually as useful as you want to make them.

If you have critiques in class, and/or if your teacher offers them, it will be one of the few times people HAVE to look at your stuff.

Conversely you can see the work of people around your skill level, and their process.

You will also most likely have to select VERY few of the pictures you take to show, so you will learn to edit down, too.

But if you are very contrarian to all this...

Why are the works of this photographer so elusive and expensive? Why does he not mass produce any works and sell them for 3 digit figures instead of only printing once and selling for 4-5 digit figures?
