like here for example. does photoshop erase exif randomly?
whenever i fire the shutter release on this fed, the curtain stays open like this. does anyone know why?
most likely it's stuck like soviet cloth shutters tend to
>>2771591
how would I go about fixing this? thanks in advance.
I had a similar problem with my zorki. I cleaned the shutter with alcohol, regreased, released and manually pushed it back.
It's not the 100% scientific or detailed answer you're looking for, but it worked for me.
so every time i shoot, and check my photos in camera i think to myself, thats a great pic. but when i throw it on the computer its almost always a huge dissapointment and have to spend ages attempting to edit it to look like what i was when i saw it on camera
1. edited
2.original
3.original on camera (mind the haze)
In camera the pic seems to "pop" more and the colours are different. (yes my screen is callibrated). why does it look so dull and flat when it goes onto my computer?

Are you shooting raw or jpeg?
raw
in-camera you are looking at the jpg preview that is imbedded into all raw files.
That jpg preview is subject to all of the filters your camera has active, as well as a few that get applied to the preview by the manufacturer just to make it look nice on the camera.
But extract that jpg preview and view it on a decent size screen and it will reveal just how shit it really is.
There will always be some previews that lok decent outside the camera, but generally a decent screen with a decent color depth will reveal how excessively over-contrasted, over-saturated, over-sharpened...

Howdy,
What's the best camera for hiking in the desert? I'm looking for something that has a decent battery life while still being extremely small. I can't decide on a Ricoh Gr or bringing a film SLR. What do you recommend?
>>2769088
Pentax DSLR with DA*16-50 AW lens or anything equivalent in weather sealing from Canon or Nikon.
I heard the GRII has improved dust seals, so that can also be a good option.
>>2769100
Which pentax do you recommend? I own a kx and since I'm going on a hiking trip, I think that that would interfere too much with weight restrictions.

Sadly photos I have like this are in BW.
I got to play with an Olympus PEN-F yesterday.
What a piece of shit!
Fuji makes a better retro camera
Sony makes a better video / mirrorless camera
Panasonic makes a better m43 camera
why would anyone pay money for this crap?
oh yeah, the frame rate / lag in the finder is so slow, it is completely useless
>>2766715
This is like the 3rd thread about this shit.
Did Fuji/Sony/Panasonicfags get their jimmies seriously rustled by this camera or something?
>>2766848
No idea. This camera is pretty niche and i have no idea why people are going against it so much.
I'm buying my camera tomorrow and bought this book to help me learn. Are there any essential photography books, or do you think this book and the owner's manual should be enough?
I started with this and "Read This if You Want to Take Great Photographs".
I'm interested in hearing if there's anything else good out there too.
>>2764650
Really, this plus owner's manual to learn how to use your camera.
Read the strobist's website to learn how to use flashes.
After that, if you insist on reading, find some basic books on artistic composition (doesn't matter if it's intended for drawing/painting/photography, it all works the same way) and color theory.
For post processing stuff, lynda.com and youtube are kings, but you're better off searching for "how to [specific technique]" than "how to use...

To add to this, what photography collections are the easiest to learn from studying the pictures in?
I'm in need of help, i have no idea what to do.
Next week i have the joy of getting to watch a rocket launch, on my fucking birthday (24th).
I am beyond excited but no idea what lens to bring, have any of yall done this?
Its going to be at 6:45PM and will launch 4 miles away from where i will be standing. (LC-39 Observation Gantry)
My friend has a electronic cannon adapter, so i plan on renting a nice lens, but no idea what to get.
>hes also lending me an F4 200m with an x2 adapter (old m42 lens)
>found cannon 70-200m f2.8 $14/day
>found sigma 50-500mm f4.5-6.3 $18/day
should i get the cannon and also rent one of those x2 adapters? (does that even work like i think it does)
I dont want to get like retarded close though, i want to be able to still shoot an artiscily pleasing shot.
If it was a day shoot i probably wouldn't even be asking, i just want to be able to get nice sharp images, no idea if the f6 is going to mean shit once they light the candle, or if i need a faster lens. If im lucky i might even be able to borrow his fullframe instead of using my sony (or ill just be a faggot and setup like 4 cameras)
>no one locally rents the sony lenses
bastards
Here's a video shot on an iphone to give you an idea of what i'll be seeing (supposedly 35mm equiv) (not mine obviously)

Hey /p/lebs, question:
I usually hauled my D5100, two lenses, flash and the other stuff in some Domke F2 knockoff.
Now I bought an aditional D7200 including a new lens and to be honest, the Domke knockoff gets a little tight: I can fit the D7200 with lens and the 5100 body only and batteries and all stuff for both cameras into the bag but is neither practical nor organized.
So while I was surfing the web I found pic related
Hazard 4 (Thats the brand) Evac photo recon (what a horribly long name)
https://www.hazard4.com/bags/photo-bags/photo-recon.html
The lower compartment (on the right side of my picture, where the body and the two lenses are fitted) got adjustable walls so I guess I could fit the D5100 with the 18-55 there and two fixed focus lenses. And the upper compartmend looks like it would eat the D7200 with the 55-300 like a champ. Also all the other pouches and compartments look like they had no problem fitting a flash and all the other stuff for two cameras.
I'm on the verge of buying the thing but I wanted to ask you if anyone here possibly owns it and can give me some first hand info that is not a YT vid of some shop or outdoor dude who talks bullcrap.
Thx in advance.
Oh and before someone asks why I dont store my cams in the Domke like pic related:
I wanna have both cameras ready with lenses.

This one is from a slime-shooting. The model was covered in some nasty goo that was basically like clear snot and became more of a elastic mass after half an hour or so.

I use this for hikes in the nearby forest or longer trips but with a single body.
It has one dedicated body place in the lower padded compartment, but the top compartment can hold the second one. It's quite comfy and roomy just don't forget to close the zip locks on the lower part.

Theoretically, if you wanted to earn an income doing product photography who would you first target/market your services to to quickly bring in an income?

I would guess you can't work for yourself. You either need to work for someone's in-house product photography business or someone who already has a lot of large clients. Large companies with the budget to hire a product photographer would only hire independent or smaller photographers for non-traditional small advertising campaigns. Smaller companies use someone in the company with a camera or stock photography.
The future of product photography is computer generated images. Most of the major product...

I guarantee you that you have someone near you selling home made knit hats, or potpourri, or some kind of snake oil health food like Plexus or Nutridiet or some shit.
Reach out to them and photo their bullshit. You might only be able to make $5 an item, tops, but it will be an income from product photography.
If you want to comfortably live off of product photography, you needed to start about 40 years ago, and have a large production house with big name clients by now.
It would also help to be near a major company's headquarters, which are either...

So what is the best software for just plain viewing pictures?
With the least amount of annoying useless crap, windows you can't remove and just all around most clear interface?
I've tried xnviewer and infraview but they are guilty of the stuff I previously mentioned.
Well, I've been using ACDSee 3.1 since 2001. It's super fast, opens pretty much everything and has quite a minimalistic interface.
Can someone explain whats going on here im getting this weird light issue and cant seem to fix or understand it.
>>2767990
going to need some context here anon, like what it is i'm looking at and the circumstances
here's my assumption of the problem:
there are rolling gaps of light on the wall when to your eyes it looks fully lit, and this is on video
what i think caused the problem which is just my assumption:
rolling shutter and lights flickering very fast
check your settings for framerate or anti-flicker options, may need to sync it up to your lights. better solution is just don't record...

It's time! Best-of-2015 /p/hotobook voting-curated edition!
>why
Because I can print for fairly low cost (estimated $35 USD (worldwide shipping included), I make zero profit) and I like photobooks.

Hardcover, 30 pages, 11.25"x8.75". This is the cheapest decent (read: not a bunch of magazine pages stapled together) option.

Because I only have 30 pages. Using every photo will get stupid expensive for a bunch of snapshits....
