It was a manta ray actually, but yeah.

Pity nobody's ever managed to step the fuck up and fill those shoes. Sure, it's a big job, but the the world needs a man like Steve Irwin.

Basically I really want a tiny velociraptor as a pet. But they don't exist anymore. So what obtainable creature is the closest to this? Birds? Reptiles? Other?

Discuss.

So what's the difference between being "not hardy" and having a "high mortality rate".

Because I've had 3 zebra danios that are marketed as "hardy" die on me while no otos have died.

Can someone help me identify what's wrong with this fish? Found him swimming near the top of the tank this morning and he's got white stuff on his body. I can't tell if it's ick, fungus, or just a general infection.

Why is it that cats are so useless while dogs have so much potential?
Are cats just less mentally capable than dogs?
78 replies and 15 images submitted. Click here to view.

While cats were easy to domesticate, dogs were much easier to teach directions to because they have a herd mentality, which means they rely on one another to survive.
>>
>>2094967
>they have a herd mentality, which means they rely on one another to survive.

no they don't. canis lupus familiaris does not naturally form herds or packs, rather confederacies that come and go nebulously.

dogs are more intelligent than cats, more neotonized than cats (meaning they need us more) and have evolved one of their hearing-related brain areas so that it only activates when it hears human speech.

dogs are the only animals that have a brain region for...

Thhis is saddening.

Whats the story behind RonRon? Howd they come about owning the little guy? The setup for him looks fairly nice and it looks like they cared for him greatly, are they like wildlife rehabbers and he wasnt fit to be released? Or did they just buy/find the guy and end up keeping him? Either way, still sad.
>>
The guy adopted him at a breeder, his youtube account description says
"I got my pet red fox Ron at an exotic animal breeder in Oklahoma. Make sure to order one at least 6 months before they are born in April usually."
I don't know how it works to own a wild animal in the US, here in my country you need a certificate of competency, and there's no breeder that I know here.

So, fuckin cats... amirite?
The local stray on my block has been coming around for awhile now. Its pretty clean and obviously getting fed.
It used to be really sweet but lately its been a little fucker. It came around a few days ago, ate treats from my hand, and then scratched me. Needless to say, I reacted and popped it in the face with a backhand. Now its afraid of me...
Why are cats so fuckin dumb? Dogs can at least understand action/reaction but its copletely lost on cats.

>>

I get that, but cats seem really stupid. Why scratch then stay scared when the only time its ever gotten whacked by me was in response to its own aggression?
>oh noe, i cant attack you on a whim. Better stay away.
>>
>>2097402
your idea that aggression is bad or the cat was attacking don't make any sense to a cat.

to him aggression is good, he has no concept that you have feelings, and he was probably trying to play with you and you attacked him.

to him, you're the one that's stupid.

Why would you need to pay tax on private sales?
>>
>>2099359
federal income taxes.

if you make $20k from self employment you pay the normal income tax rate of about 15% plus self employment tax of another 15%, so about 1/3 of what you make owning a business goes straight to the government for taxes.

How do you handle a dog that is showing signs of aggression at that very moment? For example:

>150lb dog swipes a pop tart off table
>dog knows it was wrong
>human calls out dog
>dog retreats under table into a corner
>dog growls shows fear aggression

Okay, so what? You can't reach in and drag them out or you lose an arm. You can't walk away or it's showing them that being aggressive is super-effective. You can't reach a broom in there and stab at them for obvious reasons. You can't lure them out with steak or, again, it's rewarding negative behavior. She's also incredibly independent and pleasing humans is not high on her list.

I've always done my best to never hesitate or show fear and just rush the dog and make a grab - fur, collar, thighs from behind, whatever, and quickly get her into her crate. So far, no bites. She's only snapped at me (warning snap). But it's always scary and I would like a better method. Particularly something my wife can do.

This dog is super-good. Professional obedience trained. Well socialized. Knows all the commands and a few tricks. Lazy, quiet, very friendly, generally harmless. No bite history. But she's STILL a 150lb Great Pyrenees and it's pretty intimidating she starts that belly growl that can silence a concert hall.

Anyway, what do you do? Pic related.

>>
>>2098097
Start growling yourself, flip the table, and retrieve the pop tart. She's just a dog, 150 lbs or not you'll be able to get the pop tart back without receiving damage.

If she tries to bite you, bite her first. You can make your point without hurting her.
