My snake has had a bump near its tail for the past year. She seems happy and otherwise healthy but I am concerned because the end of her tail is much thinner than the rest of her body. Does anyone recognize this?

It's a little garden snake I found in the backyard so I don't want to take it for a 60 dollar vet visit just to find out its normal.

There are some wasps in my room , and more come in every hour. I think they're building a nest , and I can't spray because we have a guinea pig and a hamster. What do I do?
13 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Take your pets out of the room and spray wasps. Maybe set your room on fire while you are at it.
>>
>>2089748
Good idea.
>>
>>2089745
They aren't building a nest, they are likely coming out of hibernation after they overwintered in your walls. Wasps usually start nests alone and need paper/wood to make them. Just open a window all the way and leave it open. Put any pets in another room and close the door. They should leave on their own by following the sunlight.

Hi, /an/.

I have some field mouse running about my decidedly non-field house. Was kinda just coexisting for a while, but I heard that they start chewing on wires and shit, and that's no good. So I got a couple of humane traps and am going to try to catch them.

Now, my question is what should I do after catching them. My initial idea was to keep them as a pet and get like a cage and shit, but I thought maybe there's something I'm not realizing that makes that not okay, so I wanted to ask if there's any reason I should like go out in to the woods and release them there or something instead.

I also figured it's possible that there might be more (I am assuming 2, at the moment, but that's based on almost nothing) and maybe they have like babies or something, so I was wondering if there's a good way to find their nest, since I don't want the kids to starve if I get their parents.

Also, if I do end up keeping them as pets, is there anything I should know? Obviously I'll look online in various places to find out how to care for them properly, but any tips and shit would be appreciated. Thanks.

The bulb to my snake lamp just blew.

What is something cheap, reliable, that I can use.

For now could I use a regular blue light bulb? Not ment for reptiles?

I just fed my ball python, so it needs the heat.

Thanks in advance guys.

Let me guess; it lives in a glass tank, on aspen bedding, with a half log hide, and you fed it a mouse.

They don't need lamps. They need belly heat. Buy a heat mat and do it right now.
>>
>>2089456
Yes you are fucking right.
Exactly that.

But if I put a heat mat under the tank where the snake sits, won't be leaning to one side.

Please help man, Thanks.
>>
>>2089459

You need to overhaul everything because you're doing literally all of it wrong. Read a care sheet for literally like 5-10 minutes.

As for heat, go to the pet store or amazon.com. Buy an under-tank heat (UTH) that will fit 1/3 to 1/2 of the bottom of the enclosure. It's a thin mat and they typically come with rubber feet to place on the corners of your shitty glass tank. You also NEED a thermostat to control it. Otherwise it will reach temperatures exceeding 100 degrees and burn your cold, underfed, dehydrated snake.

Hello /an/.

I got my first dog. He is a lab/dachshund mix. Whenever we go on walks, he just sort of exists in his own world. He doesn't really pull too much. I've tried a choke chain and I've tried doing some of the stuff Zak George recommends, but I just cannot get him to pay attention to me. I try "leave it" and "watch me" and sometimes he will briefly break his concentration, but for the most part, he just merrily trots along until I let him freely sniff about.

Am I just sort of out of luck? I've read other people having similar issue with hound-type dogs who weren't trained to walk on a lead from a very early age. Do I just keep working with him positively and hope for progress?

>>
>>2089397
Well if he doesn't pull I don't really see the problem. He's just having fun and sniffing stuff. If it ain't broke don't fix it
>>
>>2089411
So its okay he doesn't pay attention to me? That he just sort goes forward like a zombie to get to a point where he can have fun sniffing?

I just feel weird about it.
>>
>>2089411
It's okay for dogs to be observant of the world on walks, but they should be paying enough attention to you to stop when you stop. Start training him for eye contact when you stop, basically stop until he looks and quickly mark and reward (either with food or with getting to keep walking). When he starts to do it on his own reward intermittently with jackpot rewards (lots of treats and/or loud praise and excitement). And if he ever does pull, stop immediately and make him come stand next to you with eye contact before continuing forward.

It will take some practice, all of this, and you'll look like an idiot at first stopping and starting a lot on walks, but it will pay off when you have a behaved dog.

When he gets this down start looking to train the heel command, this is useful during those times you need him directly next to you closely responding to your movement. You shouldn't expect this behavior on a normal walk, but it's really handy in crowds or if you're walking past something that might be tempting/dirty/dangerous.

Please help in trying to identify this DEMOM. Go downstairs to pee at 5 am and this motherfucker was in my sink. It's HUGE. WHAT. IS. IT. I literally screamed! I flushed that fucker so fast but not before snapping a quick pic to try and identify. The spider phobia is strong with this one so any help would be MUCH appreciated

JESUS CHRIST HOUSE SPIDERS ARE THIS BIG HAHA. Holy fuck. I always grew up with tarantulas and shit, but I cannot handle house spiders. My son has a nasty ass spider bite on his face. Nothing that's extremely worrisome, but spiders are not my friends. Although I do realize how important they are haha

and i'm too lazy to find it

help me find the best deal on craigslist locally or help me find the best website to buy from. also, is there any way I can get a bigger pleco? how much are they? i used to have some, but it was a tropical climate and they lived in ponds, so not a lot of maintenance on my part.

Backstory:
>I want to gift my significant other a pleco for our 5 year anniversary. I want to give my pleco the best care. I'm willing to spend 400 at most including a nice stand.

What can I get that's best? I've been looking on craigslist, and so far this is the best offer I've found:

What does /an/ think of my weird hobby (these are all found as they appear here in the wilderness)
19 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Is it really any weirder than killing them and having their heads mounted on a wall? I don't think so.
>>
>>2088772
I do the same stuff, but I usually sell the sheds.
>>
Cool, OP.

This is my weird hobby too, but I'm just starting out so I don't have much of a collection.

My cat just got his balls clipped yesterday and no more than 5 minutes ago I went to check the spot for anything that could be wrong and this is what I saw. I'm already scrambling to find information (and all vets here are closed right now) so I figured posting a thread here couldn't hurt and might bear some fruit.

Any help is greatly appreciated, and if SOMEHOW this belongs on a different board, point me there.

some of these pictures aren't this good. we're keeping him still right now. he doesn't seem in pain but we're well aware that animals are good at masking it.
>>
>>2088769
and here's the last one, there's some ozzing from the other lump where his balls once were, but nothing much else. We've tried to keep him calm so he wouldn't do stupid shit but he literally just fell missing his step before this happened.
