My dogs found a little kitten on the porch and cornered it. It was screaming like a maniac...Got to it b4they killed it. Damn thing bit the ever loving crap out of me. Holy crap it hurt ...managed to control it enough to get it away from the dogs and It's calmed down now.
It was just instinct to Try to help it. I wasn't expecting it to bite the crap out of me and go insane. My fault for not even thinking about that.

Do I need to be concerned about these bites? I washed my hands up and did some ointment and bandaids. I got bit 5 times. 3 drew blood. Their teeth are just like little freaking needles so the bites are deep but small and barely noticeable, I have to keep a bandaid on them or they keep bleeding. Worried about cat mouth bacteria I guess.

It should be fine.
>>
If they are deep, the bleeding is helping to flush out the catmouth bacteria. Keep it clean and you should be fine.
>>
It's a little one... Maybe 5 weeks or less old. Small... Another reason why I wasn't expecting such an aggressive reaction. I just wasn't thinking about anything except getting it away from my dogs. I think it's lost or something. Idk, it looks healthy. Clear eyes and well nourished.

Ok thanks so much. I'll keep an eye on it for sure.

Pretty sure it doesn't have rabies. It was just scared shitless and I didn't realize how freaked out it was until I grabbed it.

What if Labrador Retrievers could live for 40~45 years instead of just 12~13?

Would you get one that lives 40+ years?

Yes. The short lifespan is one of the reasons I don't keep dogs as pets. I love them but 10-15 years max is too heartbreaking for me.

Why is the Blue whale, at 98 feet, considered the largest animal to ever exist when we know that Argentinosaurus was pushing 130 feet?
27 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
They're counting weight. The largest recorded blue whale was 190 tonnes, but there has been larger specimens that weren't recorded so it's safe to say they can get heavier. Also weighing whales is difficult, because it's done in pieces.
>>
>>2015061
>it's done in pieces.
I suppose you COULD do it that way, but it's probably much easier to just calculate their displacement.
>>
Because largest is about mass.
If you're going by length, a bootlace worm is larger than a blue whale.

So I have a 4 months old German Shepherd and I bring her to daycare every week day from 7:00am to 5:30pm

Is it bad for her?
For are relationship?
Will she start thinking the daycare lady and the dogs there are her family?

Thanks!

It's great that she's getting that socialization! Daycare is wonderful for puppies.

As long as you take good care of her at home, she'll know you're her human. Clicker training will strengthen your bond with her too.
>>
>>2014027
Thanks!

I can't let her in a cage for that long and work in construction is dangerous and she's not allowed anyway.

Should I let the women there feed her? Or do I feed her in the mornig and when I come back?

Is the "black sesame" Shiba Inu the most sought after memedog right now? Apparently, the regular yellow Shiba is now way too common in hipster neighborhoods.

Post other memedogs in this thread please.

What's you guys' opinion on meme-dogs anyway? When I hear hipsters say: "Ew, everyone has a labrador" like it fucking matters, my pimp hand starts itching. I don't consider my dog a fashion statement.

Thoughts from you cunts?

>pimp hand
you sound extremely annoying

but from the stand point of someone who works at a shelter, it's because they're dogs people just mindlessly flock to like sheep and are annoying as fuck about. especially labs, actually. even more annoying if it's a typically very annoying breed that people shit their pants over (again, labs)

In what situations should a muzzle be used?

Your dog has the potential to lash out, can be reactionary, or has a tendency to try and eat things it shouldn't.

Anyone know a good electronic fence system that would work for one lab?

>>
Preferably one where I wouldn't have to lay down wire. It's a christmas gift. Area of effect would have to be... i dunno like 1000 square feet?
>>
well the ones that are invisible with the collar are NOT a good idea because if the dog runs through (in the moment of panic after they're shocked they just might run further) they actually can't get back in without getting shocked again, and it can create collar sensitivity and problematic behavior as a result

as for physical fences, idk. seems like just building a regular wooden one would be more effective
>>
>>2016090
physical fence isn't an option unfortunately
i dunno my friend has two pretty big dogs and it seems to work fine for them. but he paid 2500 for his and had a trainer come out to give two free lessons.

I got my first Cactus half a year ago, and if these plants ain't just the coolest shit around then you don't know whats up. The little guy has absolutely exploded i ngrowth though, at least tripling in size since I bought it, even with low light and only being watered once a month, it just won't stop. It's so fast I can wake up the next day and notice another almost milimeter of growth. I almost think it's too fast though, the skinny part is starting to lean under it's own weight. What the heck did do to get it to grow so explosivley? Pic related is my ghetto lighting setup and the cactus in better lighting. That little mini cactus on the size was maybe the size of a penny if a penny was a sphere when I got it.

If you've got cacti of your own, it would be neat to see them. Flowering cacti are probably my favorite flowering plant out there besides maybe giant zinnias or peonies.

Hi /an/,

Some of my adult cat's claws are very thick (pic related) where I cannot even trim them properly especially since I'm afraid of splitting his claw.

Is there anything I can do about this? I don't want them becoming ingrown.
55 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>2015943
You should have taken care of that before it got out of hand.
Cutting is your only option at this point.
>>
Fuck you for being a shitty cat owner.
Take your cat to the vet for a nail trim and stay on top of that from now on.
>>
I cut them about every 2 weeks but I have to avoid the thick ones like this until he sheds them or cut only the very top off of them so it doesn't become ingrown. I just wanna know how to make him shed the nail sheaths, he already has and uses many scratching surfaces but they still won't shed

All of the crate training tutorials say to gradually introduce your puppy to the crate over a period of days or weeks. And only leave him inside for a minute or two at a time

But then they also say don't let him out if he whines. But what if he never stops whining? And where is he supposed to sleep in the days or weeks you are introducing him to the crate? We put him in there at night and he gets in relatively voluntarily and we wake up every couple hours to let him piss but he will cry like a motherfucker still

Also he's not really interested in toys or treats. Even when playing or doing things not associated with the crate. He just likes to play with my hands and will eventually crawl into my lap and fall asleep. So I can't lure him into the crate with treats or toys to make it a place he likes. Because the only thing he likes is me

>But what if he never stops whining?
he will eventually. if it's time to let him out then wait for a roughly 10 sec pause in whining

>And where is he supposed to sleep in the days or weeks you are introducing him to the crate?
in the crate, but if you've introduced it to him well enough beforehand it should be too horrible. and the crate should be in the room with you

>We put him in there at night and he gets in relatively voluntarily and we wake up every couple hours to let him piss but he will cry like a motherfucker still
how young is he? do you completely ignore the whining otherwise?

>completely uninterested in treats
your treats probably suck. use small pieces of hot dog or bologna
>>
>>2015820
8 weeks

I ignore him the best I can. Only let him out to eliminate. He's very stubborn.
>>
>>2015822
>8 weeks

Your dog is fucked, he was removed from his mother before he was ready and will never recover. You'll be dealing with behavioral issues and dog neurosis for the rest of his life. Give the dog up to a shelter and hope that someone extremely experienced is able to take him in and undo the damage.

In the future don't just buy the first dog from the first motherfucker you see on craigslist or whatever, do some research. There's no excuse for buying from a backyard breeder.

What percentage of cats and dogs do you think die in their sleep?
13 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
not very many. They don't have very good doctors and can't tell their doctors what they feel, so even the ones that get old enough to potentially die in their sleep are in too much pain to do so.
>>
>>2015535
you just bummed me out even more. thanks.

Would you rather he tell you no just so your fee fees don't get hurt. Dying, even for humans, rarely ever is in a comfortable place, surrounded by family and painless. Time to wake up to reality.

Does this breeder seem reputable to /an/?
http://midlakecavaliers.com/

Some things I'm suspicious of -
>the amount of puppies/dogs they have and are planning to have
>only 1 year health guarantee
>no guarantee on puppy's temperament (is this even a common thing?)
>say they breed healthy puppies, but have no information on any health tests
>doesn't state they do anything with the dogs; no agility, obedience, sports, confirmation etc
>deem puppies and adult dogs purchased are not always able to be registered or registerable with any animal registry (isn't registering just to say this puppy came from the two same registered purebred parents?)
I could always e-mail her for more information, but I don't want to come off as a prick.

If there are other red flags, I'm being too uptight or what I listed is actually on the site, by all means let me know.

Not a red flag but bothers me a little
>they are not fans of crate training
Might fuck me up on the application

Also general breeder rate/cringe thread.

I think you answered your own question, anon
>>
>9 litters for 2016
>they have 26 spaniels(this includes current breeders and retired breeders), and more than one border collie

That alone answers your question. I don't know how often they breed one bitch but this is too much two people(who apparently also have border collies and farm animals). Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are also shit dogs, OP. Like, some of the worst, most fucked up health problems you can get in a dog.

On top of that, they make no mention of THEIR dog's health besides 'they're healthy' on some of them, but they have a portion of their site briefly dedicated to the breed's health problems in general. It looks like its written in a way to weasel out of something, such as if they really are breeding the worst kind of cavaliers without any thought or effort into improving their health then they can just say that it's your fault for choosing the breed.
>>
>>2011710
>the amount of puppies/dogs they have and are planning to have
keep in mind they're only expecting 4-5 puppies per litter
>only 1 year health guarantee
guarantee is only for genetic defects
>no guarantee on puppy's temperament (is this even a common thing?)
don't think that's a common thing- how can any breeder guarantee it? better to check out the parents
>say they breed healthy puppies, but have no information on any health tests
something to ask the breeder about.
>doesn't state they do anything with the dogs; no agility, obedience, sports, confirmation etc
they state they're sold as pet only. do you need those things for your dog? if so, don't go with this breeder.
>deem puppies and adult dogs purchased are not always able to be registered or registerable with any animal registry (isn't registering just to say this puppy came from the two same registered purebred parents?)
you should do more research into what registration means and if it matters to you. it's more than saying it's purebred.

I like that they have their vet information right on the website. You can always call the vet and ask.
