2 MB,
Okay so this is like the first time I'm posting on here and I'm not sure if there's a specific thread I should post in but I was hoping I could get some help here
Basically, me and my family own a dog, about 4 years old, chihuahua mix. He's not super well trained but he listens and understands pretty much what you want and such
He's always been sleeping in our beds, and doesn't mind if you pick him up, hold him in your arms or in your lap or whatever, he enjoys it, even if he's on his back
Lately though he's been acting strange...

That is somewhat odd but can happen as dogs age.
Or he may be sick/hurt in some way
>>

>sick/hurt in some way
Yeah I'm really worried about this
I've tried feeling and squeezing a bit over his body just to make sure he doesn't have any injuries but I couldn't feel anything and he didn't really react
Again, talking to the vet tomorrow, might but take him for a checkup just in case

Hey /an/ I've got a question for you regarding wood/bamboo shrimps.

I've got a 90L/20 gallon tropical freshwater tank, and have had it set up for roughly 3-4 weeks (upgrade from much smaller tank). In the small tank I had guppies, flame tetra and danios. A week ago I put in some pearl gourami and the two wood shrimp in the new tank.

Just now one of the shrimps leapt to the surface, floated down and is now stiff, and have no idea why. The other shrimp is fine and both shed a few days after buying them.

I've heard of wood shrimp playing dead...

btw, the tank water is lower as I've put some in a quarantine tank for the shrimp.

I also did a test strip and all the levels are fine...

Now the other shrimp has just done it? What's going wrong?

gonna need more information though. Have you been using copper based medications? Is the filter media established? Have you been feeding the actual shrimp something they can filter out of the water column in large enough quantities?

Go to the hospital, now! That's a linguini scorpion, you might've been poisoned.

My mom wants a pure breed. I have two cats that I saved from the street, but I couldn't bring them with me to my new apartment, so they live with my parents. Still my mom wants another purr breed. So which one should she get if she wants a friendly, clean and loyal cat?

What is your moms lifestyle like?
How many hours a day is she away from the house?
Are there lots of people, pets and children coming in and out of the house?
What level of grooming is your mom willing to invest?
What activity level is she looking for?
Do the two current cats get along well?
What are their activity levels/ age?
Does she take adequate care of the cats she has now?

Speaking of tarantula in terms of Theraphosidae:
Avicularinae and Stromatopelminae have laterally enlarged tarsi (not in terms of cuticula, but lateral pads of setae) that might actually be used when gliding, just as it is known for Selenopidae.
Apart from that, their size and weight prevent them from gliding as elegantly as observed in Selenopidae (you know the video on youtube I guess).

Speaking in terms of tarantula as Mygalomorphae in general:
Because only few live on trees and a ground dwelling spider doesn't...

Discuss anything aquarium related here, including inhabitants, decor and issues.

Google is your friend.
Feel free to ask questions but know that there are a lot of resources out there that could answer your question a lot faster and accurately than /an/.

Make sure to include these things in your post before asking because we can't help you if we don't have the full picture:
-tank size
-parameters
-any and all inhabitants + how long you've had them

What's the usual dieoff rate for fish fry? I have some cory fry I've been trying to rear and I seem to lose one every two days or so. They just turn up dead even though the water's fine and I fed them.

It is my copper cory's first spawn, by the way.

What could be wrong with my Neon Tetra /aq/?

3 times now I've woken up to find 1 gasping for air near the surface. A few hours later it will be dead.

I don't think I have an aeration problem as it's only one fish gasping at a time. All the other fish are fine.

test ammonia and nitrates.

change some water no matter what the tests show.

also check your temps. You want to be 78-ish F.

22 KB,
I have been having trouble finding an exact recipe for pet food online. A lot seem to have very different opinions on what exact recipe besides switching it up every once in a while.
Does anyone have any experience making their pets food?
I am making dog food for my two new Akita puppies because I have lost trust in brands since my last dog died from dog food with listeria and salmonella in it.
It would be great if anyone has a recipe where I don't need to buy a supplement.
This is what I have found browsing
Dog Meatloaf with Vegetables
1½ pounds lean ground beef
3 stalks celery (chopped)
2 carrots (grated)
1 apple (cored and diced)
2 eggs
2 slices white bread (torn into pieces)
1 cup regular rolled oats
1 cup wheat germ
6 ounce can of tomato paste
1 cup of cooked green beans
3 carrots (chopped)
1 stalk celery (cubed)

and Guidelines:
10 pounds of dog
2 oz. protein
4 oz. carb
(Or can be half and half, just more expensive)
1/2 oz. (minimum) vegetable and/or fruit
1/8 t salt substitute (this is important; it is potassium chloride)
1/2 adult multivitamin
1t fat
Bonemeal for calcium (I use 1 eggshell per day instead)

Carrot isn't good for puppies kidneys, especially in such high amounts. Adult dogs should be ok tho. That recipe seems too complicated for me, I get a decent kibble and cook groun beef, peas, cauliflower and brocoli into it.

I adopted a 3 year old boxer shepherd from some people nearby. He is good in the house and very obedient to vocal commands. The only thing is he pulls relentlessly on the lead and barks at other dogs we come across.

He is gentle with our cat so i don't know that he's aggressive by nature but maybe it's just that he's nervous around other dogs on the walk? the owners said he had been attacked before by a small dog.

How can I fix this? I watched dog whisperer once and he said to walk him close by your leg on a very short lead and try to correct...

>>

It may not be dog aggression. A dog can pull on a leash to get to another dog, and bark out of frustration; frustration from the other dog being present (which would be aggression), or frustration from you not letting him meet/sniff/play with the other dog. Of course that doesn't mean you should let him. Next time on a walk, pay close attention to your dog. Is he stiff, wiggly, tail high, low, wagging fast, slow, are his hackles raised, and if so how much, is there snarling or teeth showing, and if there are teeth...

I don't think Shutzhund (is that what you mean by police dogs?) is a good idea for a potentially aggressive dog that's untrained. Agility and obedience would be great though, as Boxers are easily trainable and I think it would provide a lot of physical and mental stimulation. I think you would both benefit a ton from dog training classes, but it would have to be one on one because of your dog's potential dog aggression.

I would be wary of letting anyone walk a dog if they were not capable of really controlling the animal, even if it were well trained. You...

54 KB,
A while ago, I tried to adopt a Yorkie mix from the shelter. I've been to the shelter myself and the Yorkie has a really friendly personality.

I hence submitted an electronic adoption application form online once I got back home as required. However, the shelter did not reply for longer than a week.

I hence decided to phone the shelter. They told me that my application form was rejected as walking a dog for an hour is insufficient.I said that it was only a small dog yet they said that since I live in an apartment, I need to walk the dog every few hours for...

it was probably the using pee pads that did you in. they're a sign of a lazy owner and should only be used in absolutely needed temporary situations or if the dog is so old/sick they cannot get out to piss

and keep in mind the number of "hurr hypoallergenic they have HAIR" dogs they see with people who don't properly groom them and they ended matted and disgusting. getting a dog like that and admittedly not having money to groom them is irresponsible and a red flag

our shelter doesn't have a blanket no adoption to apartments rule, but it...
