How you feed your cat really depends on the animal. My cats do well on a grazing diet, they don't over eat and are a good weight. My friend's cat needs to be kept on a schedule because he over eats if given the opportunity and needs to lose weight. What do you do when an animal's been killed by a car? I was visiting some family today, and when I was leaving, I noticed there was a lump on the road that hadn't been there a few hours ago. I was pretty sure it was a dead cat. So about a mile down the road, I decided to turn around, get out of my car, and pick it's body off the road with a grocery bag I had lying around. I left it sitting on the ground next to the sidewalk. It was pretty late at night, but should I have left a message at my local animal control center about it? It didn't seem right to just leave it's body in the road, but leaving it near the sidewalk without calling for proper disposal seemed like it'd be really unsettling to pedestrians.
Or should I have just left it there?
It doesn't matter unless it's not actually dead, or is something large enough to be a hazard to vehicles.

When I was little, I would hide somewhere my dog didn't normally look, like behind the couch. My dad would call out "Where's (my name)?" Over and over to my dog. He would run through every room looking everywhere until he found me. He always looked so excited when he did.
I'm kind of sad that I didn't play more with him when he was a young pup. Best I can do is chill on the floor next to him while he dozes off. I love that old fart.

Hey guys, this may be a bit of /adv/ but it's mostly pet related.
My dog is sick with a serious virus, and my girlfriend and myself have been doing everything we can, but it seems some days he does better, then suddenly decays a bit more. I know the time is coming, but my girlfriend wants to continue finding new medication to help him, he's got progressive paralysis on all 4 legs and obviously cannot stand up.
He is able to drink and eat just fine and everything other than that, the real problem I am facing is that I am afraid to make a decision because my girlfriend keeps telling me I will feel guilty if I don't try every thing possible to fix him. As my dog is only 6 years old, I guess that's why she wants to keep going.
We do have means to take him to rehab and help recover muscle control, but I still don't know if it's time to raise the flag here, when exactly is there still hope, and when exactly are we just leading our dogs on? Local vets tell us to put him down, but vets with serious expertise on distemper tell us not to just yet, that we should continue using NDV until Distemper shows negative.
Have you been in this situation before? How do you order your thoughts and get set on a course of action? Thanks for your help /an/

Distemper, it'll be 2 months of different treatments on November 11th.
We did go through a wrong initial treatment because the vet what incredibly fucking retarded, though. But we've been on the right track for about 3 weeks.

We had to put our family dog we had for 10 years to sleep a few days ago and it doesn't feel that different. I'm such an asshole. Has this happened to anyone else?
A few days ago we put my 15 year old beagle to sleep after he entered organ failure. I was sad the day of, and actually cried (well, more like teared up that night after I saw his collar with his nametag on it
But nothing really feels that different now that it's a few days after his death. Given that he was a beagle he was already pretty low energy, and the past year or two with his age, basically all he did was sleep. He would rarely even want to go on walks. His life basically consisted of waking up, using the bathroom, eating, then sleeping for the rest of the day. Used to love jumping on couches to sleep but couldn't even do that anymore with his age + arthritis.
I actually almost feel relieved that he is gone because for the past few years he has also regularly used the bathroom in the house, seemingly out of boredom, so a lot of times I would come home to a piss and shit-stench filled house since it had been on pads on the floor all day.
It just almost doesn't feel like anything is different with him gone, and I just feel horrible feeling this way

you're relieved that he's gone because you don't come home to that anymore ie. a burden has been lifted. you love him and miss him, but you're more happy that you can live your life without worrying about the shit to come home to.
