Sometimes I like to take a glass of water and put a fish in it. I then take a salt shaker and unscrew the cap. Then I pour salt in the glass of water until the fish gets buried alive(Refill as necessary). You should try it sometime.
Welp, gave my nerite snail back to the pet store 15 minutes ago. Betta would never stop attacking him from day one, and betta has been getting a lot of fin tears, it has to be from all the flaring.
So now I have an overly aggressive betta and a 10 gallon tank that is using basically none of its capacity. Is there ANYTHING i can put in here with him?

As soon as my Amano shrimp finish breeding and the shrimplets are free I scoop everyone but a male and female and put them in a cup. Then I pull down my pants, put my asshole right above the glass and take a shit into the glass. If you can't even put a snail in without your betta freaking out, I wouldn't put in anything that moves. Some bettas just suck at the community thing, it's a risk you take when you get a betta. Mine can only seem to be with snails or corydoras, and even then he'll dart at them from time to time. In the past, I've had bettas that adjusted perfectly well to communities.

Fair warning, even in a big tank, he might be aggressive toward the kuhlis. I had to move mine out of a 40 gal because he was chasing almost everything that moved (including but not limited to kuhlis) and killed a female guppy. He's in a 20 gal now.
Plenty of plants and decor should break his line of sight, but if you see him chasing the loaches, you might want to move him back into the smaller tank and keep the bigger one as your bitchin' tank.
Kuhlis are awesome once they're used to you, if you've never had them before. I love them.

Flawed rule, you wouldn't put a 200 inch fish in a 200 gallon would you? Of course not.
First, you need to figure out the expelled bioload, overstocking CAN be done right. Size of the fish does matter, always think about the adult size, "would this fish be happy if I stuffed it in?" raises the answer.

You're going to need a 65+ gallon for a handful of 10-15 inch fish, filter has to meet gallon expectancy, you can even double your filtration if you decide to.

I need some help.
I got this tank off a friend about a week ago. It is my first tank.
I have a tetra pf 10 filter an aqua coulture bubbler and a heater that keeps my water between 72°F and 74°F. I used start right both times and let the set up run for roughly 5 hours prior befor adding my fish each time since start right apparently works quickly/instantly and i feed the fish tetra brand goldfish food 2x a day.
Bought my first 9 fish from walmart (8 gold fish 1 sucker fish) 1/2 died over night. Went to walmart had them replaced. Put them in tank too. All fish were dead next morning when i woke up.
Cleaned out my tank washed everything out (warm water) and rinsed my gravle fake plants ect. Refilled tank added start right and let it all run the rest of the day
Decided walmart fish are shit after employee tells me they "are not requiered to feed them"
Went to pet supplies plus and got 12 goldfish. Brought them home and sat the bag in the water to adjust temprature so i dont kill the fish by shoking them.
Let them play freely over night. Fine all day and now at 2 am one is fucking dead again.
What the hell am i doing wrong? Can anyone give me tips? Or tell me how to keep them alive

Did you put any water conditioner in the tank? Tap water contains chlorides, chlorine, and ammonia. Also gold fish get big and if I were you I'd just get a few guppies to start out with. After you get comfortable with running that tank and your fish don't keep dying, upgrade to a bigger tank and use live plants.

How big is that tank? I know you said you used Start Right, but I'd have played it safe and cycled the tank normally for about two weeks before adding fish. I'd also add fish more gradually, say 2-3 at a time.
Goldfish are cold water fish, you probably don't need that heater for them. They actually don't like water over 72 F. They're also very messy and get huge, so I hope that tank is at least a 50 gal. If it's significantly smaller, you might want to return the goldfish and switch to guppies. Guppies are hardy, easy, colorful, friendly, and prefer warmer tanks. They're my favorite starter fish.

Fish with proper colouration indicates that they're healthy and fit. If a fish is pale and washed out, it shows that they're weak, stressed, ill, or dying.
Don't try and take the moral high ground if you don't know what you're talking about. There's a reason most aquarists pick out the lively, active and well coloured fish from LFSs, it's not just "muh purty colors xDDD"
Strangely, my loaches coloured up better when put on white gravel, I haven't moved my shark from my 65 yet, but I guess it'll be interesting to see how his colour changes.

Usually most (notice I used most) fish change to a lighter color depending on environment. That's pretty much a fact. My emerald corys turned almost black until I put them with a light sand substrate now you can tell. Rainbow shark turned greyish, green phantom is a lighter color, acara isn't as vibrant and so on. Depends on the environment they're in.

3 Honey Gouramis, 11 Kuhli Loaches. I've never seen the Honeys harass the Amanos, only baby and juvenile RCS. They only are aggressive in bursts towards each other and are very chill with sharing meals with Kuhlis, adult RCS, and Amanos at feeding time

Are you cycling? Your nitrites will probably skyrocket into a dark purple in the future if you're using the API test tube kit
Once your nitrites and ammonia are back to 0, your nitrates should be pretty high. Do a water change and throw some more ammonia in there, and if it gets processed to nitrate by the next day your tank should be good to go
Also, don't worry about plants melting contributing to the ammonia spike too much. My entire 29g full of crypts literally melted and everything was covered in a thin layer of shit, but it still cycled and was fine

Can anyone answer me this? I'm looking to get an algae eater for my Burma/Thailand themed tank, and I've come across panda garras as the best option, unfortunately, I own a rainbow shark. I've heard some say garras are too closely related to rainbow sharks, so they will get attacked, and I've heard others say that they're 100% fine together. But does anyone here have an answer? Lighting and ferts are on point. Bioload is heavy. I have plants like rotala and amazon sword and lotuses that grow great in the same tank. My sword plant actually has three "runners" with baby amazon swords growing everywhere. Java fern just kind of sits there, I don't understand it really.

If it's a betta imbellis, then you have a significant chance of him being docile. Imbellis are the wild undomesticated strain, splendens are the domesticated inbred bettas that are genetically engineered to kill everything.
Besides, I personally find imbellis to be much more beautiful than splendens. Plus, as long as you don't have fin nippers, you never have to worry about torn or shredded fins.

RCS are either hit or miss. So I'd suggest getting 4 to 5 berried females (this is so that even if the mother herself dies, the eggs she's carrying might still hatch and survive) and then one or two males (for future generations).
If you are lucky, you will have a strong hardy stock that will survive just about anything. If you are unlucky, they will be horribly inbred stock that are doomed to die no matter what happens.

So I have a 3 foot * 18 * 18 marine tank with a 20 inch sump tank which IIRC is about 220L of water, and for the past five months all I've had in there was a hammer coral and two clownfish, and some live rock (and some hermit crabs). Recently (a month ago) I bought an angelfish and it did fine for two or three weeks before it went to hide among the rocks ne'er to reappear. We dug it out dead two or so days later. It never really seemed to eat particularly well. I brushed it off as starvation because I was feeding it pellets instead of brine shrimp, and all the other things in the tank were thriving.
Fast forward to two days ago. I went out and bought two foxface rabbitfish, another angelfish, and a jardini coral. This might seem like a lot to add at once but it's a big system with a lot of water. So I put it all in.
Within 24 hours I found the angelfish dead, and it looked like it had been dead for a few hours. Frustrating, but everything else seemed to be doing fine. It was late at night so I went to bed. Woke up the next day and the foxfaces both have whitespot. I did some water testing and the water is a little bit dirty in terms of ammonia, but the ammonia level is rapidly dropping over the course of several more tests and now it's down to zero. Went to the shop, bought some whitespot treatment, came home, went to bed.
Woke up this morning, one of the foxface rabbitfish has now died. Tested the water again, it's still a bit dirty but certainly not bad. And the corals that I have are absolutely flourishing - fully expanded. Even the new one looks better in my tank than it did at the store.
Please advise.

Wet-dry filter full of biocubes in the sump and a few lbs (can't remember how many I bought) in the tank. Most of the filtration should be taking place in the cubes, not the rock. It was cycled for a few weeks before I added any fish, and the tank is 4 or 5 months old by now.

if you're reading any ammonia then your filter is either inadequate or not cycled or both.
those three fish really are a lot to add to that size tank all at once though. It may seem like a lot of water, but that's tiny for a marine tank.
depending on which angel you got, those three alone are probably more than the tank can support. 2 foxfaces is pushing it for that little tank.

it hasn't been a thing since the early 90's though. It may seem strange but fish stores don't want livestock that dies on the way to the store any more than fish keepers want fish that fall over dead as soon as they get home.
Even in places where it's still legal essentially nobody does it because it kills way too many of the fish. It also presumably kills a fair number of the people that mix it and use it.

Different species of fish are going to have different care requirements. I don't know if PetCo is as bad as PetSmart, haphazardly tossing fish into poorly defined "tropical," "kinda mean," and "dicks" groupings and promoting universal "stocking rules" like the inch per gallon rule, but there's a lot more nuance than that. Start looking up care guides on different fish in the store whenever you're bored. Having a good knowledge of each type of fish is going to impress any costumers with impressing, and the ones not worth impressing are going to buy crap no matter what you do.

i had a local petco that i swore never to go into after i saw scores of dead fish one day, just not even being taken care of, employees lazing about.
i had to go in for some reason another day i think i was getting a laser engraved tag for my dog because he lost his. and they had obviously gotten new management or something because the fish tanks were sterling and in fact had been caringly set up, somebody went through and planted like literally 25 tanks, which is completely unheard of in these types of stores.
so lesson learned, even chain shit stores can have caring employees

I just witnessed some weird behavior between my rainbow shark and my bristlenose. So the rainbow shark was chilling, and the pleco started chasing it. Really aggressively darting at it, over and over. Then it settled down, and the rainbow shark started following it around. Not attacking or anything, just sort of hanging around the pleco. It did this for a few minutes, and they just now separated.
The fuck was that about? Never seen a pleco chase something before.

Bristlenose are territorial especially as they grow larger. Only sometimes though. Also I was at pet supplies plus the other day and they had small common plecos with some decent size goldfish. those are planarian worms
from my experience they end up appearing my aquariums if im not cleaning them as well i as i should be. they show up in my with gravel if i repeatedly miss spots vacuuming after a month or so, eventually they can move into the water column
being more thorough with cleaning removes them... they are not BAD in the aquarium but for me they are a sign things are getting a little too dirty/funky
a light gravel vacuum will remove the excess debris and loosen/reinvigorate the soil as well as remove some of the planarians
they attach themselves onto things well if you suck them up some will remain latched onto the gravel vac

It's highly unlikely the pleco would do anything, but they're capable. Male bristlenose have retractable "teeth" inside their checks that they can use to tear up other fish.
Mine gets pissy and will flare his out if the rams hang around him too much. He might chase them away, but he doesn't cause any damage.
