Hey guys I'm in the middle of working on my crested gecko enclosure and I wanted to see what you guys have built for your reptiles

Just finished doing silicone work on a 10-gallon for a pair of dart frogs. Tank should be ready in a week or two.

Very awesome! I set my first Vivarium up at the end of October.

>>2095636
>>2095637
Looking great. Where will you be getting your frogs from? I haven't gotten mine yet- it's been too cold to ship them.
>>
>>2095717
I got a pair of pumilio yesterday from a guy that lives in my area. I have plants coming in today or tomorrow. What kind of frogs are you getting?
>>
>>2095437
I've never understood how you have standing water and don't develop nasty/murky water. Do you clean it very often? Does it just not matter?

Cool setup!
>>
>>2095437
put a large nepenthes rajah in there

I hate to be a typical/an/ autist but imo you.need a ton more leafy cover foliage for a cresty.
>>
>>2095992
This.

Nothing wrong with your current design, but just need to add branchy/leafy cover on top
>>
I'm thinking about making a new enclosure for my igg
I want it to be open air but was wondering if climate would be an issue (CA weather)
Should I follow up with the open air enclosure ?
Will the humidity be an issue ?

Igg is 4yo
>>
>>2095965
not op, but you can throw a small air stone in there to keep it reasonably fresh
until they shit in it, that is
>>
Op Here

>>2095965
I dont put enough water in each time for is to build up, the plants all get misted

>>2095980
I love those plants, but I have no idea where I could get one

>>2095992
I've noticed that my cresties likes hiding under the esulenta in the front right corner so I'll definitely will take that into consideration

My next goal is to get some java moss to grow on the piece of wood and put in more bromeliads that I bought yesterday
>>
>>2095637
Added the drainage layer and substrate. Got the viv bundle from josh's frogs and gathered some magnolia and oak leaves. I'm contemplating putting a selaginella in the bottom. Saw some nice ones for cheap at a local nursery.
>>
>>2096850
Just gotta wait for the plants to come in. Lookin a lot better than I had hoped.
>>
Best enclosure would be in the wild where they should be left
>>
>>2095965
You can add a layer of activated carbon to prevent the water from stagnating
>>
>>2096896

Looks great. Will be beautiful when the plants grow.
>>
>>2096898
shhhhhhhh. If it wasn't for people taking cresties out of the wild and breeding the shit out of them they possibly would have gone extinct
>>
>>2096896
Looks zoo-exhibit quality. Very awesome, it'll look even better with the foliage.

How did you get the soil and wood to stay up on the sides?
>>
After my reptiles passing I've felt an urge to create something nice and alive like these here.
I want to get the tank setup first for pygmy chameleons before i drop them in there.

My question is quite simple...is Josh's frogs an alright place to pick up the substrates from? It has all of them there, at least according to their instructions, and would make starting it up much easier. Is it much cheaper to source the stuff and mix it myself? Thanks!

(this will be a twenty gallon long for one pygmy chameleon btw...)
>>
>>2097296
Great stuff expanding foam and GE black silicone.
>>
>>2097327
Josh's frogs is really good for substrates. Since you want pygmies I would say you may want something that stays a little bit drier. The substrate Josh sells is made for frogs. I would check out NEherp's substrates. They have a few different mixes depending on what you want. And I would go with a small group of pygmies in a 20. That would be enough room for a 1.2 or 1.3 group.

I honestly don't want to have to deal with females laying eggs. I feel kinda bad because I have no intention of keeping/breeding them. I feel as though I'll just be putting strain on an animal who doesn't need to have that. Of course this is going to happen regardless if I purchase them or not but I would not like to contribute to that. I know it's a giant tank for one but atleast he'd be living the high life? Thank you for your suggestion I'll make sure to check it out and post back here.
>>
>>2096896
This is op I was wondering how you got the dirt to stay on so thick. I'm assuming you did great stuff then put on silicone but when I did it the dirt stayed on very thin and now I have to patch a few spots up

Another one. Currently has 1 crested gecko juvenile in it
>>
>>2098530
It's a nice tank. It looks a little too ordered (not enough randomness) but once everything starts growing in I'm sure it'll look even better :)! Those are real plants right??? Lol
>>
>>2098533
All fake, but the guy from the store told me that plants could grow out of the bark if the humidity stays high enough
>>
>>2098501
I pressed the coconut fiber into the silicone using a nitrile glove. If you just put it on there without applying pressure that would explain why it's so thin.
>>
>>2098538
hmmmm i'll keep that in mind for the next vivarium i do. This was my first attempt at one. btw did you brush on the silicone after applying it or spread it with your hand (in a glove obviously)
>>
>>
>>2098602
I've always used my hands, but it tends to get messy. For my next build I'm planning on trying a brush. Did you carve the great stuff before applying the silicone?
>>
>>2098532
Great design but crestys need more cover foliage m8
>>
>>2098668
I carved some of it but only where I thought it bubbled up too much or was blocking the log planters
>>
>>2098822
This Sunday there will be a big reptile event here in the Netherlands, I'll look for some!

I have two baby RES. I started off with a 20gal, which contrary to popular belief, is more than enough for the moment. I just got a 55gal from Petco during their "1$ a gallon" sale. I'm building an above tank basking area, but to be honest, I'm kinda stuck. I'm trying to find a cheap method of building it while also still looking professional.

>contrary to popular belief, is more than enough for the moment
Not true, it's plenty of space for them as they are now, just not for bigger ones.

Can't help you on the above tank setup though. I've never made or tried to make one that didn't look like shit.
>>
>>2098849
You should carve as much as possible so the surface is at least a little rough. Silicone doesn't stick to smooth great stuff very well.
>>
>>2095437
Oh boy.

Here's my pride and joy.

>my crested gecko enclosure

Give it up now. Add 2 perches, a ledge bowl, and a fake vine. Call it a day. Don't put anything in there that's hard to clean or maintain.

Those guys shit up everything like a flock of pigeons were living in their cage. I love pimping my cages, but I gave up with my crested geckos.

Pic related. Lesson: Don't put wood/rocks/anything porous in crested gecko cages.

I might be bitter ....

Had a male frilled dragon named Gary. Gary laid eggs one night. Gary was doing it wrong.

Oh, Gary ...

>Great design but crestys need more cover foliage m8

Keep in mind, size matters. A 1 year old crestie can still hide comfortably on the back of a pothos leaf. I look in that cage and think "I would never find my geckos in there" ... they'll find a way to hide in there. It's got more coverage than my 2x3x2 that my cresties are in.

Pothos would work pretty well in there. That way you could get rid of the plastic stuff.

Very nice! You put some real effort into that! What species do you keep in there?

Looks like it would be perfection for dart frogs.

Giant Halmahera Gecko.
>>2101320
Someone put it on Pinterest? Send me a link if you can, and yeah the tank is actually mine, and I've posted pictures of it here and dendroboard a few times. It's a 36x18x36 exo Terra, I hand mist mine, never have bothered with getting a mistaking even though I know it would be way easier.
>>
>>2101344
Shit dude, I actually cant find it on pinterest. there are little aspects of it that look incredibly similar to a couple of the vivariums i liked on it.

Btw where did you get the moss and what did you do to make it grow so well
