I got a puppy, and after a few walks, seems like she caught a few fleas.
I need to give her some sort of flea prevention, but I am unsure on what to use for a 4 month old puppy.
I used to use Frontline, large dogs on my old golden retriever, but I don't know what to use in a puppy.
Do I just use the same shit but for smaller dogs?

frontline is offered in different weight categories. get the kind for whatever your dog weighs.
>>
Have you tried shaving the puppy and applying a thin laquer of wood varnish? An added bonus: Puppy fur, when spun, makes great yarn for mittens and pussy mufflers

Whatever you give him, don't use advantage/advantix products unless you want your dog to experience this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1WSUcYRzh4

He stopped EVER doing this when I stopped advantage. Has never done it again. Frontline is pretty much your only option, but for a 4 month old puppy, why not just rub diatomaceous earth all over him?

I would go easy on chemicals until at least 6mo.

Do I really need to take my dogs to the VET to get checked for heart-worm if I want to start giving them heart worming treatment again? Is this legit or it just another way for vets to pull you at a vet so they can make $$ off you.

I am asking this because I've had only extremely negative experiences at vets trying to sell me unnecessary shit and I'd like to avoid that. For example the last veterinary clinics I've been to was always trying to sell me products and marketing shit to me. It made me feel like I can't trust vets and I don't want...

Also, I live in Australia ( melbourne) if that makes any difference.

My dogs have been on Roundworm/Hookworm treatment, but not Heartworms.
>>
>>2083413
Heartworm testing is a must, the actual treatment is expensive and uncomfortable for the dog. You know what you want from your vet, feel confident in saying, "Thanks, but no thanks."
>>
I've only ever given my dogs heartworm treatment once every now and then. Are you saying this is bad? Wtf. It's like $60 for a 3 month usage of advocate and I have 2 dogs so I spread the usage out. Not sure if fear mongering to make money?

Are sphynx cats hypoallergenic?

Would someone with mild allergy be able to live with one, provided the cat is bathed regularly?
8 replies and 2 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
The allergy is usually to the cats saliva, which the cat then covers its coat with whilst grooming. Coat them sheds and leaves bits around the house.

Sphynxs will still groom and lick their coat, but due to the lack of fur, the saliva shouldn't stick around as long. Especially as you're supposed to wash this breed, whereas you wouldn't with other cats unless it was a dire need.

I wouldn't call them hypoallergenic, but they may be easier to cope with than other cats.

THIS. The allergy is to saliva, but shedding hair spreads the dander. You might also like breeds that don't have guard hairs, since that's the type of hair that does most of the shedding.

Devon Rex still has some guard hairs that are all crinkly like pubic hairs and not so great.

Cornish Rex has no guard hairs at all and feels super soft without any shedding.

Hey /an/, what are your opinion on humans and nature in general? Do you think we were the best or the worst thing to happen in this planet?

Asking this for research purpose, sorry if its unrelated to the board

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentti_Linkola

I agree with Linkola on the need for human extinction.
>>
>>2083348
I think boiling it down to "best" or "worst" is way too polarizing and simple. It's a lot more complex, and honestly, subjective.

I personally think humans are absolutely amazing in many ways, and also pretty bad in others.
>>
Being able to use tools and plan ahead allowed humans to not only destroy environments efficiently, but do it on purpose. So probably not very good.

Although it is good to have big brain and opposable thumbs.

I have a 3 year old english bulldog male who's very frustrated that he hasn't mated. Problem is he had airway birth defects so he can't breed inside the kennel.

Is there any way for him to get some bitches without the purpose of breeding? Castration doesn't feel right

Look at my cute syrian hamster! His name is Snickers and he sleeps A LOT. I think he's awake for maybe 1 to 2 hours at night? I know hamsters are nocturnal, but even at night he sleeps a lot. He was born on the 5th of december, so still quite young. His cage is big enough (ferplast jenny) and he has a big running wheel and other hamster toys (mostly carton stuff). He still only uses his running wheel though, and he likes to nibble on his cage bars.

So why does he sleep that much? Is it normal?

Gf and I are getting a dog next week and I'm having second thoughts. I grew up with dogs and can handle them, and we are getting a cute jack russel parson girl.
We talked about it a lot and went over finances and everything, and it all checks out, and two days ago I was really happy and wanted this... but now I'm not sure anymore.

I love dogs and I love my gf, but suddenly it seems too much of a responsibility especially in the long run, and like a lot of work and restrictions that are just not... necessary. Idk.

It's probably too late now to...

A bit of background info:
We are both students but money is not a problem and neither is time. However, I will go abroad for a year next year, and gf will graduate and then we don't know where she will work.
We have been debating to get a dog for over a year now and she says she will handle it, even on her own, and that things will work out. But I'm not sure if she actually can handle it, especially when I'm away.

Suddenly it just seems like the timing is all wrong but then again, plenty of people have dogs and manage their daily life, and when is...

You're not really giving us any information about your activity level or how much time you have for it.
Jack russels are very high energy. That's really the only concern I have.
>>
>>2083066
I'm thinking you should wait a bit. Is it a puppy? Jack russels are also high energy and will require quite a bit of extra attention. People who have dogs and full time jobs usually have dogs that aren't young and high energy dogs. If it's a puppy, you ARE going to have to have somebody there most of the time. If both of you are at school all day, it isn't going to work out very well.

How do I get my border collie to stop growling at bigger dogs

She's 2, And grew up with a springer (who died not so longer) And she would always contest with him for food, I always told her off but it seems as ive taken for walks that Smaller dogs she doesn't nip at them, she just looks down on them while bigger dogs she'll run around taking nips as she runs past

I've managed over the months to get him to come to me on command but she always spots them out and if i dont react fast enough she'll run

If your dog is aggressive you should keep it on a leash and/or muzzle it when there is a possibility to be around other dogs

Hi /an/

Ancient life is absurdly cool. I wish I could even see a simulation of a world of mushroom forests, purple foliage and crazy feathered fucks running around. Is there any documentary online that isn't shit to look at, that's good to just take you back into that time as best we can, that really lets you see how spectacularly alien the earth was?

Thanks :)
