What's it like to have a pet pig? Do they chew on stuff? Are they destructive? Is it easy to potty train them?

It is cute but it's also just a baby. They get a little rougher looking when they grow up. Fat and sway backed. But I love pigs so I still think they're cute.

>>2004101

They're completely different from cats and dogs. You'd have to meet one to really know what they're like. They don't chew stuff up but they will explore it with their mouth. Their nose and mouths are their shovel/hands. They can be destructive because they like to root but I wouldn't describe them as any more destructive than a dog and if you keep them busy they don't do anything like that.

They're incredibly intelligent, more so than dogs. It's pretty easy to potty train them because they are naturally fastidious about where they shit. Even my full time full size outdoor hogs have a potty corner.

They don't like to be picked up ever. They can be noisy. They are needy socially and mentally so if you're not going to devote your life to them, get too. They also should spend much of their time outdoors. They can be well behaved indoors for periods of time but they are outdoor animals at the end of the day.

If you have the right situation they're incredibly rewarding pets. Very loving, can learn complex tasks and even display clear logical analysis. And very endearing. Mine "sing" to me.

Question: What would you do?

My 2 year old pitty was staying at my mom's house. While she was leaving the bedroom, he pushed past her and grabbed a hold of my 18 year old cat. He killed her instantly. My poor mother had to watch her cat be killed. and she had to clean it up afterwards.

So, now we have this dog and don't know what to do with him.
I have found a trainer so hopefully he can learn some damn manners & have a little more self control.

Have you every had experience with a strong prey-drive in your animals? Did any specific training help?

I'm feeling sad and confused. HELP!

What are we going to be able to tell you that a trainer can't? You have a dog from a known aggressive breed kill your mother's cat, I imagine most people would get rid of the damn thing.
>>
>>2003918
Get rid of it, too many negative emotions now. You and your mom will resent him forever. Never get a pit bull again.

Why do so many parents tell their kids to take care of a fish first to prove they can handle a dog/cat/whatever mammal? Properly caring for fish basically entails carefully simulating an entire ecosystem. Properly caring for a dog entails refilling its food and water and giving it exercise outdoors.

My cat got in a pretty bad fight and got bitten pretty ugly.

He licks his wounds too much and it worries me.

His tail also twitches strangely.

Is it time for vet?

Definitely time for a vet.
>>
>>2003235

the better question is: is it safe to let my cat outdoors unsupervised where he might get into fights requiring subsequent visits to the vet?

unless you're really attached to the idea of your cat dying young, the answer is obviously "no".

and yes, go to the vet you retard.

I would like to start a population of hamsters in my area. I have decided that the golden hamster is the best candidate. There is no threat fron snek here and they could easily out compete and kill mice. I'm planning on releasing in late spring. What would be a good starting population size to release first?
Also, does anyone have any recommendations on other breeds besides goldens?

You may bring one currently existing species to utter extinction, /an/; whether it is micro-organic or multi-cellular, whether it is animal or plant, that species will be gone forever and will never exist again.
You may also bring one currently extinct or endangered species back to life, all the way up to "least concern" status in the wild. Again, it can be anything.

What two species do you choose, /an/, and why?

My cat has been terrorized by these little shits for the past 2 months. I've given her two rounds of Advantage II and have washed her bedding. They won't go away. How have you /an/ons destroyed them? What did you do?
25 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Frontline. It's a Britfag brand but it worked all the time my mum used it (on the dogs and on us kids).
>>
Wash the cat in a bathroom or something, then keep him/her in that room until you're done vacuuming the whole house. You can let him/her out now, but wear white socks around the house and pay attention to your feet for the next few days or so, and if you see a flea on you, just pinch in and throw it in the toilet or something. Repeat every other day 3-4 times. You can also sprinkle your carpet with fine grade salt, but the above steps should help.
>>
Ask your vet for capstar. From there vacuum your entire house daily (including furniture - fabric or otherwise), flea comb many multiple times daily in quick burts and get rid of the fleas, do full litter changes and wash your litterbox in hot soapy water frequently and wash any cat furniture you have as well as toys often too. Frontline as directed (once a month I believe). Do not stop under any circumstance until at least three or four MONTHS have gone by with no sign of fleas in sight. Keep flea combing once a week to check for more fleas. I got rid of my cat's fleas like this, but remember you can't stop when you think there are no more fleas. Otherwise they won't go away because the next round of eggs will hatch.

Even once you've seen no fleas for a few months and decided to stop, flea comb your cat weekly or so for a few more months to check, then down to monthly, and then every so often. Just to be on the safe side. Look up how to flea comb most effectively.

Back on topic, me and my autism drew this a while back. Supposed to live on Earth in a quasi-ice age 50 million years in the future. Uses it axe-shaped head covered in armor to ram through thick ice to surface for air and to ambush prey walking on the ice.

I imagined it being 90 meters long, with 2 meter high teeth lining its mouth...

While I cant get into too specific biology because im completely ignorant when it comes down to stuff at that level, the general idea was that this form of reproduction evolved way before they became the species they are now. Millions of years before they were turtle/trilobite-esque animals that lived in large ponds that were created by the roots of plants basically making sections in a large lake. These proto-whistlers would have a hard time leaving their individual ponds and genetic diversity would become a problem, except some of them would be born larger and because of that actually could travel over the ponds into other ones. Millions of years later you have a species that puts a ton of genetic information into one female so that she could lay her eggs in a different pond and spread genetic diversity.
>>
>>1990158
but >>1965102 says that sex is done between same sex couples, wouldn't that make males entirely redundant?
Unless the males also lay eggs, in which case maybe alpha and beta would be a better definition than female and male, if they both exchange genetical information trough a giant wiggly penis and lay eggs.
Or are groups of males supposed to ninja on females egg laying and spray their own genes all over it?

Let's talk about our century's greatest problem within the eco-minded community. It's clear to everyone at this point, that a militant, zealous minority is hijacking our movement, turning intelligent discussions about the environment and eco-friendly solutions, into troll infested nonsense. They are what SJW-s are to liberalism. They're the dark greens. Yes, that is a jab at their intelligence. The frightening thing is, there are more and more of them each day. Here's a list that'll help you recognize them:

1. Valuing animal lives over human lives.
2. Protecting animals that are known to be dangerous
3. Opposing regulating the eco-system
4. Advocating for veganism or paleo eating
5. Science deniers, technophobes, anti vaxxers and "naturalists"

Now, to be dark green, one does not have to fit all of the citeria above. One of them is enough. But let me expand on them a little bit. The first citeria usually is the source from which all other problems stem. The second paragraph applies to pitbull apologists, shark and wolf protectionists etc. The third one also relates to this, the culling of overpopulated or dangerous animals that had become a serious nuisance or a threat shouldn't be opposed.
The fourth one is especially bad, since vegans are advocating for a lifestyle that cannot be applied to everyone, while also destroying the environment they supposedly are trying to protect, as it is simply not sustainable for everyone to be vegan.
Paleo eaters are just as bad, they can't understand that it is impossible to eat what humans had eaten in the neolithic because literally almost all of our food had been domesticated. There was no "universal" paleo diet, people ate differently in different climates anyway. The fifth is self-explanatory.
You may ask, why are all these things a problem, anon? Because intelligent, reasonable people are writing us off. Our movement is turning into a joke. No, worse, a lot of those things I mentioned actually cause serious harm.

I disagree. Above a certain level of intelligence, it's just logical to be environmentally conscious, because our survival and well being depends on it.

>20 litre tank
>filter 200lph suitable for 20-40 litre aquarium NO MEDIA

Media is super important for a filter. It's what makes the filter work. Yes, filter media looks like compacted floss. It's supposed to be that way. That said, you'll probably want a 40+ litre filter just to be sure you have enough filtration once the filtration media gets a little clogged up.

How did you start the cycle? Did you use a bottle of "cycle starter" from a pet store or just let the tank sit there? You need to add something to make the cycle start. A piece of raw shrimp will do it. Yes, it will rot there. Let it be!

I take it you're using the colored chunky sharp gravel substrate, right?
>>
so I got a little 3 gallon tank and it came with some under gravel filter. Is it supposed to lack any carbon and what not? Its just a hunk of plastic with holes in it.

I put some ammonia into the tank along with bacteria to process it but it has been a few days now and nothing is happening. How long does it take?
