I need some ideas on how to induce natural selection to my guppy tank. I have 35 guppy fry and I need to kill some off so only the strongest and most intelligent survive.
I would use a predator but it doesn't seem like a good idea for fear of killing all my fish.
Something like a goldfish maybe ? To just eat a couple of the fry but maybe not always eat them

Induce competition through scarcity
>>2055256
No, bad idea. Goldfish are poop machines, and they grow huge. They really are more a pond fish than anything else.
I would instead go to the store and buy the betta with the largest/heaviest fins you can find. That way only the slowest/most stupid fry will get eaten.
I would also get some java moss, tie it to a rock or whatnot, and with every water change gently comb it out with a smooth wide toothed comb. That way the individual strands become long and bushy so there is a shit ton of hiding places within...

stick your finger down her throat when she's doing it and she'll never do it again
A male sugar glider is coming into my care. I do not intend on keeping him as much as I do finding him a new home with someone already familiar with sugar gliders, but there is a slight possibly I will keep him. I spent two days with my friend/his current owner and he is pretty chill for a glider. He owns two others but they are already a bonded pair, and are much more active than he is. When I am back home with him I will be taking him to the vet because one of his eyes is cloudy and comparing his level of activity to the other two, I want to make sure he gets checked out....

The most important thing about gliders that no one really elaborates on, is how fucking nightmarish their talons are. Do not think you'll be able to clip them. Don't think a sandpaper wheel insert will trim them. And don't think you'll want to keep playing with them when they accidentally destroy your skin purely by walking on it. I still have scars on the back of my neck from where they crawled around, and we got rid of them 2 years ago.
That was the dealbreaker for us. We never let...

Keep them on a leash whenever out of the cash. A good, long one. Yes, you're hands will get fucked while putting it on and taking it off (we used collars. We could never get the body harnesses on them because they're squirmy rodents and don't want you to put them on). Anyway, yeah, leash them and keep them close. They will head straight for the inside of any couch, behind bed frames, etc. They want to hide in a dark space. The leash will...

Really? I've been playing with all three of them for the past two days(at night since I don't really sleep), and I have only a scratch or two on the front of my neck. I guess my skin is just thick for the most part.
The two MUCH more active ones are master jumpers and ive been having a blast with them but the guy I'm getting is no where near as active. Yeah he climbs and maybe...

I was on a walk with my brother today in Austin, TX and we stumbled upon this skull. We can't figure out what it is, any help?
Another picture of it: (idk how to post 2 pics at once)

Tortoise?
Do exotic vets give a shit about illegal animals? I see vets here in california taking care of tons of people with ferrets and hedgehogs or whatever, but if someone came to one of those places with an alligator or monkey or something would they still not do anything?
I remember hearing something about vets don't turn people in for exotics, but is that actually true?
Probably depends on the vet. When in doubt, sort through their trash or follow them home and see if you can get any dirt on them for leverage.
They are legally required to tell the authorities
>>2054897
That definitely isn't true, seeing as the exotic vets near here get ferrets extremely commonly, which are illegal.
>>2054861
I'm assuming a vet who does a load of work with ferrets wouldn't want to be known for turning someone in for an animal, because they'd probably lose a big hunk of their business.
Hey, can someone help me ID this little guy? I want to say great horned owl, but he seems a little small.
>>2054637
How'd you get him, OP?
>>2054645
He was one of a couple chicks brought into a wildlife rehab center I volunteer at.
Where is your location.
I got a situation
I loved rodents my whole life
But I'm deathly allergic
But it's a long story but they are dear to me
Kind of like that poet who had rabbits that helped him cope with shit
I have 1 hamster and had 3 mice. A mom and two daughters.
The ham is approaching her 3 years.
And the mice well
The mother died a few days ago. Then her daughter about a day later suddenly. Now I'm left with one
I want to get her a friend
How's the best way to do this
Also how is it that even though I'm allergic...

Dwarf hamsters have claws that are so thin they're like hair, so they don't scratch. That might help with you allergy.
Dwarf hamsters are generally friendlier, than the standard hamsters. They also are too weak to chew through nearly anything so they're great if you like those plastic cages with all the tunnels and toy add ons.
In case you end up with a pregnant female (pet stores can be very unreliable about keeping genders apart) they only have four babies which sure beats having to deal with a dozen with standards.
Good luck!
>>2054412
Is the hamster a syrian or a dwarf? I know from experience females tend to smell snice go into heat every few days. If she's in one if those commercial cages that from the pet store that might be the problem. Give her a bigger space like 20gallon tank or bigger then add 3-5 inches of her bedding. This should help keep her odor down.
They also have pee spots they use over and over. Clean it out evey few days. My mother isnt allergic to my boys, but to their urine.
Until then once she passes on to rainbow...

All of that is true. Nails are thinner. Yet their dander is worse for me. Just to say. But yeah general no smell etc. I do have a dwarf so...

Now I'm confused
So both of you are saying fuck mice?
They bite rarely of not at all compared to hams
Also I'm by a pet store now looking at mice.
>tfw you realize pets are not friends they are slaves
>>2054396

the fuck you on about mate ?
slave would mean that the bastard is doing actuall physical work for my benefit, while all hes doing is lying around eating awesome food, and playing with me when he has excess enegry. when you're in a house the bastard just comes home twice a day for a quick snack.
im talking about cats at the moment.
you're argument is shit and you should feel like shit. sage.
help me name my new blizzard morph Snow Leopard gecko! thanks a lot!

Hey /an/.
I'm thinking of buying a snake, but there is one problem.
I still live with my parents, and my mother is a die-hard for animals.
>inb4 neckbeard
I'm worried that feeding the snake might bother her. She reacts badly when she sees dead animals or something similar.
Should I buy one or nay? I'm aiming to get a corn to make this a bit easier, and I can also buy pre-killed mice, but I'm still not entirely sure.
Wait till you have your own place to get an animal.
>>2054182
give me your mom's email and I'll ask her for you.
Why do you want to keep an animal as your prisoner?
What is this white shit. I ate some without noticing
>>2054174
probably fungus though it could be bacteria or more likely some mix of the two.
how did it taste?
>>2054205
Like battery acid i guess it tastedreally bitter
Don´t know what it is but you should try to smoke it couse it seems to be the kind of thing that gets you high...
can someone tell me what kind of bird is this? looks like an owl but i do not know the name of this one
All you had to do was google search "bird with wide mouth" or "bird with big mouth".
potoo
It's just a bird, stick that bitch into your pipe and smoke it...
Mum found this in her kitchen glove. Any idea what it is?

About two weeks ago I bought a Weimaraner puppy, she is really nice and behaves really nice when we´re not at home (About three hours per day) but lately she has been trying to bite every family member and I just can´t make her stop.
Any tips?
By the way she gets hiccup whenever we´re playing, I took her to the vet and forgot to ask
Is it normal?
>>>>2054021
Hiccups may just be from excitement, she'll. Out grow it.
Usually theybgrow outbof biting too. However you can always
-yelp
-Freeze
-Walk away
-Time out
-give a chew toy
One of these options should be effective, Kennel training helps a lot. Its like sending a kid to their room.
Be persistent and firm. Your dog will not hate you for being the boss.
Contacting a local trainer is always a good idea, sooner the better.
Petsmart isn't...

Thanks!
I´ve already talked to the local trainers and they told me that Haskell (The puppy) is way too young for training and that she needs to complete her vaccine schedule before being able to go to training.
This is the first pet I've ever had so I'm kind of overwhelmed.
Just one more question: How do I make her stop sleeping in my bed? She got used and now it seems impossible to make her sleep anywhere else
>>2054046
>haskell
/prog/ brother?
Anyway, just have patience. Weims are pretty high strung, but you'll get the hang of training.
>bed
Give her something warm to snuggle to and maybe an old shirt. It's pretty lonely and scary for a young pup to sleep on its own.
