2 MB,
I was wondering if chicken are birds or animals? I mean sure they got feathers and stuff so they are similar to birds. But they cannot fly, so they can't be birds I guess. So they are probably animals.

So I live in a dorm-apartment and I really miss my furry friend back at home, so after reading some of the shitty articles about dogs in apartments I've found out that the best dog for me and my apartment would be either a Pug, Bulldog or Greyhound. Thoughts?

How much money do you have? Bulldogs cost 8 grand out the gate because they are delivered via c section, and structurally unhealthy. Pugs are even worse because there are more shitty breeders. They are one of the very few breeds that get genetic health issues under a year old and it's not rare. Both are physically incapable of a lot of activity, and usually friendly and goofy dogs

It's the retired racers that are good apartment dogs, otherwise greyhounds are just as good as other dogs in apts. They...

I'd recommend maybe an older dog that doesn't need a lot of exercise and isn't too noisy. Have you thought about adopting from a rescue? They tend to be familiar with the temperament of the dog.

Is there anything special you do for your animals? Anything you do that you feel is above and beyond how most people treat their animals?

Actually take time to learn about them, namely behavior/psychology.
The number of dog owners that have zero understanding of how a dog ticks is sad.

Yappy lapdogs.
>>
>>2080977
That has to do more with care, training and socialization than the size of the dog. If you are concerned though, I'd suggest adopting an adult dog that's quieter. Keep in mind to keep up with training, don't let the dog get away with things like growling and barking because it's just a small dog (main reason of yappy dogs) and if possible make sure you keep the dog socialized with strangers and other dogs. Another reason for yappy dogs is lack of stimulus, either mental or physical. Again, when...

How do get a pet crow? Do you steal an egg in the woods or can you buy them?
32 replies and 3 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>2078557
Don't. They're social animals. Feed a flock instead and over time they'll become very friendly.
>>
>>2078565
This. Look into attracting a flock. You can even name them if you're good at telling which is which. As a bonus, they'll be much livelier and happier than they'd ever be in a cage AND you don't have to deal with all their random noise all hours of the day. I'd imagine they'd be easier to train when they're surrounded by stimuli. That's an uneducated guess, though.
>>
>>2078593

Yep. You make friends with crow you have crow friends forever unless you stop the gravy train of food.

Put dried mealworms in dishes around your yard. You will have crows and likely magpies too. You will have corvid army.

My apologies if this is the wrong board for this, but I got to thinking about squirrels today and it dawned on me they could be alien scouts observing our planet. They are everywhere, in virtually any biome, they can climb trees, power lines, towers to observe us, and can't fly, which explains why they still need suborbital ships. Inb4 this sounds like a Douglas Adams concept or Futurama already did it, the clincher is the only people who try to harm squirrels are the exact same people who are abducted and anally probed. I don't think that's a coincidence.

Anyone got any recommendations for tortoise tables? Need one for my Hermann's tortoise since he grew too big for my old one and always climbs out.

Anything I should keep in mind when buying a table? Depth (so he can dig down)? Height (so he doesn't climb out)? Size? He's 13cm now I believe. Is a large table important?
9 replies and 1 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
why would you buy one, they're easy to make.
>>
>>2081562
Actually the plan is to buy one and attach it to the one I already have by sawing down one of the walls. But I still need I for on how big it should be, depth (so the tortoise and burrow) and so on.
>>
>>2081564
1.5x their height is usually alright, but T. hermanni isn't known for burrowing much in captivity so you should be able to get away with less.

provide it with some leaf litter it can crawl under, that's about as much burrowing as they do.

Is it wrong to test drugs on animals or is it situational?
for instance, if the drug is an asprin and the chimps got a headache, is it still wrong?

>>
The only two other alternatives are testing it on people or not testing it at all.
I wholeheartedly support animal testing.
If you don't, then you really should refuse all medical treatment since all of it relies on animal testing at one point or another.
>>
Animals are used as models throughout science.

Most the protests against it focus on the use of animal testing for cosmetics, which I myself don't agree with.

For medical research, I understand the use of animals. They will be used until technology is good enough to substitute, but that will take a while. Experiments that use animals strive to minimise the amount of animals used to that necessary, and the welfare of the animals is generally taken into account before, during, and after the experiment.

I may not be happy with the use of them, but I understand...
