Alright /an/, my dog keeps shitting liquid. He goes to the vet on friday to get a flea dip, but I'd prefer to stop cleaning up liquid shit. Is there some sort of OTC pepto bismol-equivalent for dogs? I'm sure it's not his food, prior to about a week ago his shits were solid and he was fine on the same food. We thought it was some new treats he was eating, but we went back to the old treats that he was fine on and he still has chronic diarrhea. Rice doesn't seem to help either.

Google was of no assistance, so I figured I'd at least ask /an/.

is he up to date on shots?

first, fast him for 12 hours before giving him any more food. feed him a mixture of boiled chicken breast, pureed canned pumpkin, and rice.

KEEP HIM HYDRATED. your dog is obviously very ill and it seems like you're more concerned about your floor than his health. buy some unflavored pedialyte and squirt it in his mouth with a syringe often to keep him hydrated.

is he lethargic? is he also vomiting?

if he's acting normally and NOT tired or weak, and he's NOT dehydrated (check his gums. if they're tacky,...

I'm concerned about his health, but considering he's going to the vet literally tomorrow anyways, I'd figure he's not in mortal danger since he's still as hyper as ever. I'm not sure about his gums, I'll be honest I'm a little squeamish around his teeth since they're getting sharp and he's in a biting phase. Can't really get him to training yet either because he's too young and isn't castrated yet.

To my knowledge, he's fine on shots, and he did vomit once when eating a treat, but to my knowledge he...

man up and touch the pupper's gums. it's only for a second. if they're wet, he's okay. if they're a little sticky or dry, you need to get more liquid in him.

252 KB,
Just bought a Pac-Man frog today, how often should I feed it and what should I feed it? The guy at the store said they where feeding it pinkie mice every couple days but I read that you should feed them just mice. I gave it 8 medium crickets today and it ate maybe 5 of them.

Yeah you're gonna wanna feed it crickets for a while until it grows more, because that guy looks really eensey weensey. Just because pacs with shove anything you let them down their throat doesn't mean you should let them. And do not feed it live mice, especially at this age, they will kill it.
>>

feed various insects dusted with calcium. in addition to crickets; butter worms, phoenix worms, dubia roaches (these are better than crickets both for you and the frog), hornworms, silk worms. put those in a wide smooth sided dish so they don't burrow down in to the substrate away from your frog. change water bowl frequently.
>>
Okay just for future reference, never listen to the numbnut employees at any pet stores. 99.9% of the time they're full of shit and don't know squat.

You're going to want to feed it crickets, make sure they're gutloaded first. Google pacman frog care sheets. If you're going to feed it any mice at all, at that size, it should only be thawed pinkie mice, and only once a month, maximum. The rest of the time do crickets, I'd say go with 2-4 per feeding. Every other time you feed it, dust the crickets in vitamin powder and calcium, it's very...

I've been looking into getting my first dog, and I live in an apartment with a cat. I've heard that greyhounds are a good beginner breed that does well in apartments, but sighthounds in general aren't recommended around cats/small animals because they're bred to chase. On the other hand, I've heard that labs make good beginner dogs, and I've been looking into adopting an older one.

Am I better off getting a retired greyhound with a history of living peacefully around cats, or should I just chance it with an older, more mellow dog?

Personally,...

>older labs

Ones that end up in the shelter are untrained, crazy ones.
>>
>>2035825
The dog I'm looking at is actually in a rescue, where the fosters work on their behavior and are more familiar with the dog's history.

I've looked into shelters, but all I see are chihuahuas and pit bull mixes. I'd like to get a dog from someone familiar with their histories and personalities.
>>
People might get labs as beginner dogs but they almost inevitably fuck them up. They are super high energy and I would not recommend them for people who aren't experienced with training dogs. Most labs you will find in shelters were improperly cared for and have many behavior problems (generally why they were dropped off).

Your best bet would be to look into your local no-kill shelters and get a dog that has experience being around cats. It doesn't have to be a certain breed or whatever, just ask for the temperament you want.

Hey guys, I'm interested on starting a course i found for becoming a vet assistant. The thing is the euthanasia part, how does one deal with it? I know its so that the animal stops suffering, but it still makes me sad as fuck to have to do that at some point, so, what can i do to not be a crybaby?

43 KB,
I'm trying to ID a spider I found in my curtains. Dumbass me, I tossed him outside before I thought to get a picture.
Markings are somewhat like this, but the abdomen is too skinny and unmarked to be my spider. The abdomen markings I saw were like a hobo spider, but I know it can't be one of those because I got bit five times down my leg from sleeping with one just like it, and there was only minor swelling and pain. Bunch of searching for common house spiders in Washington and California got me nothing else similar.

Also spider general I guess.

Yeh, har har. I forgot to mention that the abdomen wasn't as thick as a hobo spider's, just that the markings were similar but simplified.

The two I found were the same kind, I can confirm. I also kept a female of the same type for a while and the egg sac was not like a hobo spider's.
>>
>>2037103
none of those things is diagnostic though.
You can't ID a spider by markings or abdomen thickness, and you sure as hell can't ID it based on your reaction to bites that may or may not even be bites caused by a spider that looked similar to your completely uneducated eye.

that said, google wolf spiders and grass spiders and see if any look like your mystery insect.

I'm not a frequent /an/ poster but I would like your advice. I noticed you had a general thread for everything but cats, otherwise I would've used that thread instead.

There's this cat that has lived outside my house for years. I'm nearly certain that she's a stray and not feral, because she was fixed, she meows/purrs/ect at me, lets me touch her (even her stomach) is social to other family members, her tail has been docked, and she even follows me every night when I walk my dogs. She'll even scratch at the door if I'm taking too long.

It...

There is a show called "my cat from hell" not sure if it still airs, but it's basically cat psychology in a nutshell. Try watching that show, see if there are any episodes online, like youtube, if it's not on animal planet anymore.

Basically, do everything that he tells the shitty owners to do.

The number one thing you will be facing is that your cat will need to exercise, a LOT. This can easily be achieved by simply tying some bright cloth/ribbon to a string, and then wiggling it...

Thank you for recommending that show. I haven't watched Animal Planet since it turned into the "reality TV shows that are barely about animals" channel.

I just hope she isn't too mad when I have to put her in a crate.
>>
>>2037108
Try wearing a shirt for a couple days straight, until it's basically saturated with your scent. Then when she is in the crate give her that shirt to cuddle up with.

73 KB,
I bought some lycoris radiata bulbs from internet, and there is only one who is getting new roots but the branch were is suposed to grow a flower is kind of dry (the red circle part)

So I was wondering If I should cut a little to remove the dry part or should I just let it there and let nature be

btw can I "revive" the others bulbs if I let them rest in warm water?

It'll be fine.
As long as it's not actually rotting, it'll just sprout again.

Besides - everyone knows the only real way to kill a bulb plant is to rip it from the dirt, drown it in salt water, spit a mouthful of whiskey into the air and chant the Lord's Prayer backwards.

570 KB,
I found this guy today, was either having heat stroke or hit a window and was about to get eaten. Seems to be a kingfisher. He's getting better now but he seems really young? He sits on my shoulder and hand without much hesitation, will he be ok to release or do I need to keep him until hes older?

There's no other ones around here either, only ravens and doves. I have no idea how he ended up near the city.

I'm not trying to be malicious op. It's a wild animal and requires different care than a domestic bird. If you are really that adamant about not giving it to a place that has the means to care for it then at least let it go where you found it. Provided it's no longer stunned and doing alright. I know you want to help it but you may end up doing more harm than good.
