TEMPTATIONS!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGH!!!
Stick with your original plan bud. These are the two possibilities:
1) You jump the gun and get the two shepherds. Your financial hardships are worsened because now youa have TWO dogs instead of the original one you planned (unless 2 was the plan all alomg), and you got them before you were financially ready. And even though they go to a doggy day care, that is no guarantee that they are good dogs for you or are what you are looking for in a dog besides being shepherds.
Or
2) stick to your plan, save up your dough and work with a good shelter that will...

I know, it's just SOOO tempting. But I ain't doing it, because 2 is the option I have to do for my current dog.
You might be able to put a hold on them by putting some money down. That's what I did to reserve my GSD mix since I couldn't take him home until after I moved. I payed his adoption fee and the adoption agency kept him for me for 2 or 3 months. I may have gotten special consideration since the adoption people knew me though.
Do pets haven understanding of "ownership" or is it literally just learned behaviors?
why would they?
They think of you as either their best friend or their best feeder.
I once caught my cat sleeping in my neighbours ground level bay window, his reaction was just like he was my wife and I walked in on him sleeping with tyrone.

Need some advice from you guys.
There's a lot of Mallard ducks at the apartment complex I live in. Yesterday, I heard people yelling at ducks, I thought it was kids being cunts so I went outside to get the kids to leave the ducks alone. Turns out it was a woman and her kid. There was one female duck with an injured leg, and a bunch of male ducks. According to them, all the males except one (I assume the female's mate) had been "being mean to" or attacking the female. By the time I got there the people were already keeping the other ducks away so I...

Yes
Mallards raperaperape
They also kill ducklings
>>2112460
they will do that in spring, yes. the female probably did not have an established mate male yet so there was competition. one male will win, usually, and stick with the female from then on.
allaboutbirds.org says
>Mallard pairs are generally monogamous, but paired males pursue females other than their mates. So-called “extra-pair copulations” are common among birds and in many species are consensual, but male Mallards often force these copulations, with several males chasing...

Thanks, anons! Have a cute baby duck.
I don't mind the shedding
I just need a majestic playful medium size dog
They're great. Can be a bit bitchy, dominant and pushy though.

A question /an/:
Is it normal for cats to go for a walk with their owner? My father has one and that little rascal always accompanies him when he goes out for a walk after work. Plus this cat really doesn't give a fuck and provokes confrontation with dogs, no matter how big. Luckily no one has gotten hurt... yet.
Pic related, shitty quality I know.
He looks fucking cute as shit.
>>2112313
Thanks.
I used to look after two stray cats that used to follow me on walks. The female would sneak after me and try to remain hidden, the tom used to just saunter along besides me. It was cute, until we got too far from home and they'd start meowing and appearing anxious instead of just turning back and leaving me to my madness.
Tell me why your dog is the best dog in the world
I don't want us to compete, I just want to hear all about your good dogs
My dog is autistic and retarded.

Hi /an/. I usually frequent /k/ and /fit/ but I'm about to move out since I'm going to dental school and I wanted a very fast doggo running at incredibl hihg speds for a companion since I'll be living alone.
I want to adopt from a shelter since if I can help prevent at least one dog from getting killed, it'd be pretty cool. But I've heard it can be a hassle to adopt from a shelter and lots of people get rejected. How do I avoid getting rejected? I want a dog either way but I don't think I want to buy one from a breeder because it's...

I was just throwing some dank memes around. I really need a small (under 30lb) dog since I'll be living in a studio apartment.
>>2112247
Personal recommendation: cairn terrier. They're the best.
Just be honest about your circumstances when you're talking to the people at a rescue or shelter. It helps to have a vet lined up, but don't go buying a bunch of stuff until you actually have a dog picked out. Different breeds need different merch.

Thanks anon. Do you know anything about sexing or breeding?
hey /an/,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'll ask anyway. I want to put some plants on this white shelf in my bedroom but the window to the left is the only source of natural light. What types/species of plants could I put on this shelf and have them do well?
>>2112219
oh yeah and also the shelf is only about six inches deep so i can't put anything bigger than maybe a 4" plant on there
>>2112219
Dracaena braunii (Lucky Bamboo) and Spathiphyllum (Peace Lily) would be the easiest that I know of.
>>2112223
thanks, i'll check it out
Hey so I'm about to move in with my parents. (my dad is sick and I'm an only child) And I have a cat. They have a black lab. Both were strays. My dad keeps saying we should get these two together. I think that's an extremely bad idea. Btw the dog goes after rabbits and chews them into nothing in seconds. What do you say /an/?
>>2112210
Also they were in the same house for a time. I kept the cat in my room and the dog was downstairs. The cat would sneak out to use the litterbox becuase I kept it ouside my room and later on wouldn't even go there unless I was standing there. And everytime the dog saw her she would freak out and go into kill mode.
So now I'm worried. I don't have to move back in. I was just going to help out because of my dad's health but he actually seems to be getting better now.
The other thing...

Just let the dog rip it up then get yourself a dog like a regular person.
>>2112210
Introduce their smells to each other first by taking the dog to the door you keep the cat in to let him get used to it
Then hope really hard and think about letting them meet
Then abandon hope and leave the cat in your room forever to protect it
Dogs are savages
My Bolognese never seems to show an interest in most things around her. She's not really that active and only rarely in the mood to play, and when my other two doggos are playing, 80% of the time she just sits to the side, and seems to prefer chewing bones instead. I know some dogs are more introverted then others, and it's probably placebo, but she seems sort of depressed almost. Any advice?
your bolognese shouldn't be on the side, you should put it on your pasta. it also shouldn't have bones in it.

>implying I'd bother sending my photo to my computer instead of just snapping a picture of my dog immediately
Also, she's quite a bit smaller than the other two, so she tends to get pushed around a bit. Is there anything I can do make her feel more comfortable/happy?
I've always had cats and now that I have my own house I want to get a dog. What kind of dog is the most cat like and gets along well with cats?
I know mutts are usually better, so are there any specific mixes that fit the bill?
>>2112150
Mastiffs are gentle giants.
How do you know mutt are better?
>>2112150
I wouldn't say there are breeds that are cat friendly. I would avoid a high energy type of dog, like collies and cattle dogs. Honestly the best thing to do is go to the website of local rescue groups and see if any of the dogs have notes about if they've lived with cats. Often dogs are fostered in homes with cats so they can provide that info.
