My jazz combo is falling apart. My drummer and I are the leaders, but everyone else in our sextet is inexperienced, not serious about progress, and basically out to lunch at all times. I told them to study Cherokee two weeks ago, and the night before a performance they are clueless (not from inability, but from apathy). We rarely get to rehearse for our performances and will end up embarassing ourselves.

Grief is sometimes very delayed.
When my best friend died I only cried the day before the funeral, three weeks after I found out he died. I was talking to another friend about the stupid nickname I had for him and just broke the fuck down. Even at the funeral when everyone else was crying I was fine.

Very occasionally, I get a short, sharp pain in my ass. This has happened for years but its usually rare, maybe once or twice every few months and just one or 2 jolts. It makes me spring my pelvis forward and clench my cheeks, really sharp pain. Its just strange that its so rare.

Its not impossible. The main thing is to work on your self, first.
Ask why did you break up in the first place? It is a fixable problem? If so, fix yourself. Then in a few months if you are confident that you can do better, hit them up and tell them about the progress you have made. Be honest with yourself, and don't message them until you know for sure that you can do better. You need to convince yourself that you're a new person if you want any chance of convincing them.

I don't think this is a case where it's as simple as "you're an adult, you should be able to do what you want". They've lost a child, and they're worried that something could happen to you. You need to sit them down and talk it out, and compromise. You're not going to get anywhere by refusing to compromise. Start off small, like negotiating a later curfew.
