It's a cheap way for people who like things to have a representation of a thing they like. Simple as that. If you get butt blasted over their existence then that's pretty sad.
I bought the new Doom Cyberdemon one solely because it's unlikely that they'll ever do actual Doom toys. He looks pretty good since he's a monster his face is actually detailed, rather than a blank, vacant expression like most other Pops.
Besides that though, I don't understand their appeal, especially if it's something that has a bunch of toys already, like Batman.

Best Spider-Man figures?
The middle one in this pic is quite nice, from the second Raimi film. Great sculpt and very flexible articulation.
Mine has been sitting in an old toy bin for years, and it's joints are weak in places though.
The ones that get most commonly recommended are the Toybiz McFarlane Spidey, the Marvel Legends Pizza Spidey, and the Mafex ASM2 Spidey. I'm partial to the Pizza Party, but a lot of people really prefer the McFarlane because of its sculpted detail and articulation versus Pizza Party's painted-on lines and slightly hindered hips. It's pretty expensive, though, and not really worth it if you're not 100% on-board with the design. The Mafex ASM2 has pretty good articulation but the paint job is incredibly shiny and is off-putting to some.

Pic related: I only found out these things existed last year, but none of the sites I frequent carry them. What places I've found that have them are either kinda shady, charging well over $100 for them, or both. The 1:12 Street Fighter IV arcade cabinet kit looks like it'll be joining it in Eleanor status soon, too.

Ah! The good ol' days of camping amiami for a restock of these game prize figures, any toy soldier remember that? I got lucky when a restock of the Beatmania happened and managed to get a set in 2009. I have then preordered(I checked amiami from time to time so I can preorder before it sold out) the Quiz Magic Academy set, Pop'n Music set, Guitarfreaks set, Drumfreaks set and a Jubeat Saucer(Didn't get the other 2 since I was low on money at that time). I'm not sure if I remember it correctly but I think amiami had a 50% off on international shipping when Vol1-3 was released so I saved a lot on ems for the first 3.
I had the same problem as you with the 1/12 SFIV Wave Vewlix arcade cabinet, I held off on buying on release because I thought it would be reissued since it was just a model kit, boy was I wrong, Wave discontinued it in favor of the Persona Wave Vewlix arcade cabinet. I wasn't comfortable with paying the aftermarket price so I visit ebay from time to time for bins and auctions, I missed a few good offers but last year I got lucky to win an auction for $50 including shipping. So don't give up hope, you'll eventually get one!
