Bullying thread
I'm in the Army - UK - and the bullying here is semi institutionalised. When you're the victim of it you can't escape, there's nobody to talk to because the staff endorse the bullying (because it's "fun"/"funny"). It isolates you from the group, marks you out as a loser, and the only thing you can do is grin and bear it to save the smallest shred of your reputation (which will be mostly destroyed anyway).
It's made worse because the staff, or your 1 up reporting officer, will see you as a mong/incompetent, and this affection of their perception of you affects your report, which will in turn affect your career.
So in short, you get bullied, there's nothing you can do about it and nobody to talk to/come to your defence, and it shoots your career prospects in the foot.
The Army is a highly immature, ravenously political organisation.
