What's the go-to major nowadays for "fuck off i just want a job"?
Most people seem to say it's computer science, but apparently that's becoming saturated to hell. I was thinking civil or aerospace engineering, since those can't get outsourced and haven't seen an explosion of enrollment the way CS has.
Lmao I went to Berkeley. CS had something like a 2.5 GPA requirement in order to declare the major.
Now its like 3.5 with lower division classes having 2,500 kids in it.

University of Washington's CS department has gotten so competitive you basically need a 4.0 to get in, and even that's not a guarantee.
Which led to tons of rejects applying to Applied Math, so now you need a 4.0 to get into that.
Which led to tons of rejects applying to Electrical Engineering, so now you need a 4.0 to get into that.
In all, about 5-6 majors have become competitive-admissions solely due to CS rejects, including applied math, regular math, EE, information sciences, and even fucking physics.
Oh, and the satellite campus UW-Bothell had its CS program become competitive too. And Western Washington University, which is about 2 hours north and usually an in-state student's second choice after UW, now has its CS program overflowing with people in its intro classes and people are taking 6 years to graduate due to lack of space for upper-division shit.
Shit is fucking hilarious. When I graduate with me MechE degree I'm gonna buy a pack of cigars and smoke them while reading bitchy reddit posts about not getting into ANY of these programs.

Read more. Srs, and I don't mean the avg shit on this site. Pick up critically acclaimed books, preferably psychological thrillers. They'll sharpen your mind and expose you to so much more sophisticated language.

I'm thinking of quitting my part time job so that I can focus on college. I only take about 3 courses (not including labs) a semester. I'm already in my 4th year and I'm probably going to be in college for another 2-3 years if I continue like this. It's mostly because I went for my 2 year degree first and I fucked up in a couple courses and I had to retake them.
I want to start taking 5 or 6 courses after this semester so I can hurry up and graduate. I don't even know if I can handle that load, but I'm very self-conscious with the fact that I've been in college for so long.
I don't want to overwork myself. I'm going for a CS degree, but I don't even know if I can do it. I just want to focus on school, but I feel bad for not having a job. I know a lot of people go through college while also having a job of some kind. Can I get some opinions?
It saddens me that people take school this seriously. More so that they have to if they want to be "successful" in life. Keep in mind, a degree comes with no gaurenteesof anything because at the end of the day, it's just a piece of paper.
If you can manage a job that supports your lifestyle without a college degree, you should.
Let me put it this way: a degree along won't get you a job and employers will always look more favourably on someone who worked while they were studying than someone who didn't.

I get horribly angry sometimes. Like really angry and it has only gotten worse over the years. The walls of my flat have several holes nowadays. Comp sci for sure. I did econ + comp sci and honestly, I felt so much more challenged but comp sci in all aspects of my education. It was more useful and it was much much harder than any econ I took.
I think comp sci for sure, if I had to pick one, its just such a great major, it shows you can think and its so applicable in today's job market...
