I went to a psychologist last year who seemed to really think I had a disorder that she had no experience with. She gave me the phone number of someone who did (the only specialist where I live) and greatly encouraged me to get diagnosed.
What I'm concerned about is, are specialists more likely to see things that aren't there? Particularly if it's a fad diagnosis? I know doctors who really over-prescribe ADHD medication for example, if you want to get yourself or your kid Adderall, you go to him.

I didn't get diagnosed, she wasn't qualified. Her hunch was mild autism. I went because I have no friends and have had difficulties with social interactions since I was a teenager. I'm skeptical of being able to diagnose autism in adults.

i guess the thing to consider here is whether or not getting diagnosed will help you in any way? it sounds like she might be over-diagnosing here (shut up about technicalities) and this tends to be a big issue in the mental health field. instead of someone having issues in one area they put it under a bigger diagnosis.

The stress of university is tearing me apart. I'm 19 years old and I'm so fucking lost as to what I should do. Okay, so I graduated high school as a B student. Not too bad, could have done better if I applied myself more. I decided to major in Computer Science because I heard Computer Science majors make bank. Well, turns out I fucking hate coding. Never in my life have I dealt with this much frustration trying to learn a subject. Computer science just isn't for me and I know that now. I LOVE organizing data, I like statistics, I love history, philosophy, debating, political science, ect. THOSE are my passions and I'm just struggling to find a suitable major. I'm trying to take intro to business and accounting next semester, but I'm hesitant on whether or not accounting will be for me. Please, I could really use some help. I've been having such a tough time going to sleep lately and I think stress is a main reason. I keep fearing that I'm going to experience sleep paralysis.
i was in the same situation. you should just do what you love, if you're a creative mind you will find lots of opportunities with your major, and you're never too old to learn.
i would suggest a generic business major before going into philosophy/whatever you wanna do anyway.

I am depressed. I've been like this for the last 3 years. I started therapy recently and I'm trying to fix it. I have been with my boyfriend for 7 years. Our relationship has been great even when I was feeling down.
He is criticizing me a lot, lately. He keeps telling me that I am not "helping myself". I think he's right and wrong at the same time. If you're depressed the worst thing you can do is nothing. Spending the day in bed is bad for you even if you have no energy. i bought my PC for about 600 bucks and i had no problem running any steam games, or even emulating ps2 or nintendo wii games.
every modern computer can do all that wiht the exception of possibly some really complex games. also 'runs fast enough' isnt a real thing. like no computer store or website will list 'runs fast enough' under their specs. al commputers run fast when you first get them. they slow down as you bog em down. if you know how fast you want it to run (re: ram) that helps...
