How do you deal with the eldrazi menace?
Does the eldrazi menace make a deck like Canadian Threshold tier 1?
Could you run 4x Eye of ugin in 12 post with some significant adjustments to play the most ludicrous mana deck ever?

but everyone in the last thread was saying the only reason Eldrazi was placing in Legacy was the legacy players were caught off-guard. "Let the meta adjust." So is Eldrazi a menace in Legacy after all?

Well,in that case, how do you adjust to it? Play Threshold/DnT?

You have a job, /tg/

The startup game company you are working for is looking to publish a new TCG. The mechanics are fully developed and playtested and they work like a dream. It plays like the kind of game you wish Magic: the Gathering could be.
The problem is that there is no way the game can break into a market dominated by established brands like Magic and Hearthstone...

...Unless, they buy the license to publish the game under some existing brand.
That's where you come in.

It is your job to select some existing media, be it a movie, book, TV series, comic, whatever, to get made into a TCG. The catch is that you do not have an unlimited budget for this. In fact, the company has a rather tight budget for this being a young startup and all. You can't purchase the rights to make a new Marvel or Star Wars TCG. You might be able to buy the rights to a 90's syndicated TV show or maybe~ an 80's cartoon/toyline that hasn't been rebooted yet.
You can also use public domain IP. However, you boss has given you instructions to avoid Cthulhu mythos and Conan the Barbarian, since that stuff is kind of played out now.

What do you choose?

Set a deep pit-trap for him.

The fall should kill him, especially with all that extra weight.

If it doesn't because of generic "toughness", just pour water in until he drowns - no way he can swim. Or if he doesn't need to breathe, pour in pitch and lamp oil, then toss down a torch.

How the hell do you convert AD&D characters to pathfinder? All the players in my group are adamant they want to switch over to 3.5 and I don't know how to convert the characters over. I'm having trouble with:

>Stat generation Re-do for rolled characters.
>How to effectively teach (and learn) 3.5 when its feels like herding cats with a sponge.

So, /tg/, I am under some existencial crisis.

I like trading card games. Or at least, I like playing them. But trading card games are far more than just playing decks. Here are my issues.

>Metagame changes. Most TCGs imply you must adapt to metagames, and the sole fact a set gets released makes the meta change and you immediately gotta change your deck or buy those few cards you need. I can't adapt to this easily.
>Testing. I always test test test and when I actually play the deck I feel uncomfortable playing it or the deck is straight subpar because I cannot invest enough for a good deck.
>Playing. Sometimes I just play in automatic mode. This is, I don't really think many things, misplay a LOT, and may miss even the most obvious of moves.

I recently moved to this city, and there are two TCG stores. I would love playing something to meet people (I have no friends here), but TCGs, even when they're the obvious move, are damn difficult for me.

What do I do? I feel enormously conflicted now.

Get a job so you can afford good cards and adopting to the changing meta.
Don't worry about the third point, most top-tier decks are autopilot anyway.
>>
>>45849194
Play Limited formats where you sit down, open packs and build the deck. MtG expansions are designed with Limited and Standard primarily in mind these days (allegedly), and most fundamental precepts and skills you hold in Limited are usually transferrable between expansions. Your deck is always new so you don't have the time to goldfish and wonder during play if you played as well as you goldfished.

Play a living card game like Android: Netrunner instead.
You buy complete sets of cards for a small cost, there is no real secondary market. The complete base game is $35 MSRP, but $25 through most retailers.

>One World. In this model, there are no other planes of existence, but the Material Plane includes places like the bottomless Abyss, the shining Mount Celestia, the strange city of Mechanus, the fortress of Acheron, and so on. All the planes are locations in the world, reachable by ordinary means of travel - though extraordinary effort is required, for example, to sail across the sea to the blessed isles of Elysium.

You have 10 seconds to explain why this isn't the single best D&D setting ever written. It's from the 5e DMG.

It's all the best of the planes without any actual planar/dimensional/afterlife/portal bullshit, which ruins all immersion and setting integrity. The angels/demons/devils/modrons might even be mortals with human lifespans, not setting-destroying immortal bullshit.

Was I just an asshole GM?

First-time GM here, running a setting where spellcasters learn magic abilities by collecting them from powerful places in the world. Magic is raw and chaotic, so it's not always clear what it does at a glance.

So the party's spellcaster spent some time investigating rumours about power places, and came up with a few leads, including one "spell" that could supposedly grant immortality. However, the people who tipped him off about that place also mentioned that no-one who ever went there came back. He assumed that the location was dangerous, and brought the party with him to have a look.

When they got there, however, they found the place to be a perfectly ordinary slab of stone in the middle of an open area with no visible threats. A faded inscription on the slab said something to the effect of "Seeker of power, be aware that this place will not do what you believe it will."

He hesitated, but went through with absorbing the power. Then he tried casting the spell, and it instantly shunted him over to a dimension overlapping their home dimension. He could see the home sphere from where he was, but not interact with it or reveal himself to anyone. Basically, he had become a ghost with no need for food, water or sleep. He was immortal, but not in the way you might expect, and seemingly stuck in that dimension.

That's when the player behind that character turned bitter on me, and accused me of fucking him over and running a campaign with too many arbitrary pitfalls. I finally cracked and told him that he'd be able to find several ways of getting out of his predicament, but he was in a sour mood for the rest of the evening.

Was this bad GMing? Should I have communicated more clearly that he was walking into a sort of trap? I'll admit that I do try to keep the players constantly challenged and on their toes, so I might be failing at seeing the campaign from their perspective.

Saying the power didn't do what he thought it would is a pretty clear warning. The guy was powergaming, he wanted immortality so bad he ignored the warning that the magic wasn't going to do what he thought, and then got mad when the magic didn't do what he thought.
In short, he needs to learn how to understand words and not powergame so hard.
>>
>>45845165
No, you did perfectly fine, the player was just the one who ignored the world's magic lore warning, the slab warning, and the people who gave him the rumors warning

Yes and no. This kind of half on him for going through with it anyway. I mean, there was a literal 'do not fuck with this hella fucky magic shit' message written right on the rock itself. It's not like no one told him.

One thing I would've done is affirmed one last time OOC that they wanted to go through with it.

The biggest mistake I see here is that you gave a plot hook with a thread that apparently never went anywhere. It just existed to lead them to a pitfall, which is something you should definitely avoid as a newer GM.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....

The REPUBLIC is at an end. The EMPIRE rules the galaxy. The wicked Emperor and his sinister apprentice Darth Vader seek to hunt down and destroy the last of the JEDI - former guardians of peace and justice, now enemies of the state.

Everywhere in the galaxy, star systems are crushed under the iron fist of the Empire. Warships hang like vultures above every planet and armored boots trample on the freedoms of every citizen. Yet despite his best efforts, the Emperor cannot control nature itself.

On a backwater world, a child was born with the rare ability to use the FORCE. Now, ten years later, their powers will finally reveal themselves. Powers which are destined to be used for evil...

Jerrist IV was an abominable planet. Deep in the Corporate Sector, barren and charmless, the world was home to two industries - mining and manufacture. The majority of the population lived in slum-like conditions, in dire and destitute poverty. Above the slums towered the factories that most toiled in, and above those the palatial residences of the wealthy, for whom the vulgarity and misery of life below was nothing but an eyesore to be overlooked.

Our story begins in a smoke filled room, in a tiny house, with a poor couple and their only child.

It’s been several days since your confusing meeting with Naja left you with more questions than answers. Well, you have one answer at least. It’s a very big answer. Sort of the answer to everything really. So how can you keep getting out of bed when you know that all life is pointless?

It’s actually pretty easy. You just do your best not to think about it too hard. Ultimate cosmic futility has little bearings on your plans here, after all. The hypothetical meaning to life might have been lost forever but you’re still here, Hiss is still here and Teleran is still here for the former to sink her teeth into. Nothing’s changed.
That isn’t to say what Naja revealed to you wasn’t shocking. It was huge. But it was practically TOO huge. The grand design of Creation has next to zero relevance to the plans and schemes of mortals.
You don’t tell Hiss anyway. You don’t think she wants to know.

But aside from contemplating the ultimate lack of divine purpose what else have you been keeping yourself occupied? The days have slipped by fast but not so fast that you haven’t gotten work done.

“Ok, are we all here?” you ask, looking around the room “then let's begin.”

You've taken over one of the Oreian parliament's committee chambers for this meeting and have invited your friends and allies. Some of those who couldn't attend in person sent representatives but everyone's here.

Well, almost everyone, Bokin and the frost giants absence is the most notable.

“We're here” you say, focusing on the task at hand “because it's time to destroy the Killing Frost.” There's some scattered applause, you hold up a hand “what we need to do now is decide who is going, and how we're going to attack the place.”

“I could go alone” you start, though you're quickly contradicted as most of the audience volunteers to go with you.

“Ok then” you concede the point “I could go with a small group, sneak in there and take on the Killing Frost. Or take enough forces to stage diversionary assaults or even a large enough army to battle the forces of the Killing Frost.”

“But before we decide all of that” you say, pointing to the map on the table in front of you “Isla, would you..?” A quick spell later and the flat map of the northern landmass is transformed into a three-dimensional image of the place, covering a third of the room. Everyone walks up to examine Isla's detailed illusion closely.

>>
“How accurate is this?” asks Matthias.

“The maps of the original topography are accurate” says Isla “though they could have changed since the Killing Frost took up there.”

“And these troop masses and locations?” asks the Azure Empress, indicating the groups of tiny figures in Isla's image.

“We've had scouts and observers getting as close as they dare” says Jianxi “numbers are mostly accurate, but increasing. Locations we're pretty sure of.”

“It looks like magic is the best way in” says General Sofia “teleport in, kill the giant cloud of cold, and get out.”

Baroness Sofia is quick to contradict her double “we've tried deeper infiltration using magic, specifically teleportation and we've lost a number of good mages that way. They'll be prepared for teleporting.”

“Mortal mages” points out the general “a Goddess can overcome those restrictions.”

“Or fall into a trap” counters the Baroness “it's too risky to teleport directly into the heart of the enemies forces” she points to a huge mountain where the Killing Frost is (supposedly) residing. “Teleporting to or near this entire mountain range is suicide, but we've had mages teleport too and from these locations and get out again.”

“Those are the plains though” says the general “starting there means fighting or sneaking through two armies and getting past this fortress or whatever this huge structure is here.”

“We think its a coterie of Alyouns” Isla adds into the conversation “Ice elementals with strong sorcerous powers – each the match of a master mage, if my research is correct.”

“There, see?” says General Sofia “thank you Isla for supporting the logical view: a teleporting strike is the best way.”

“Wait, I wasn't-” Isla starts to say. Baroness Sofia cuts her off.

“What that means” she says “is that they have a lot of powerful spellcasters who will have placed wards over this whole area – none of which we can scry by the way.”
>>
You tried, but you don't think even you can get through without using a lot of your deific power.

“Sneaking past them is the best way” Baroness Sofia continues “mages are great at magic, but mundane methods are often overlooked.”

“You're forgetting” Shahulzer points out “the possibility of flying in. The snowstorm covering the place is strong, but we might make our way in.”

“We can do it!” pipes up Ebonsong “my sister and I can get through any stupid storm.”

“Much as I won't enjoy it” says your double, shivering a little “an underground approach might be best: the dwarves can find their way into this place via caves, and even tunnelling if need be.”

“This is all well and good” says Jal, wandering through the illusion and poking at things “but like, who is going? Cos if its an army I don't think we have enough dragons to fly in and stuff.”

Who is going with you to battle the Killing Frost?

Is it possible to have an Evil aliment character who is also a decent human being.
Like someone who has no problem cheating and killing for gain.
But would not kill just for fun can actually be trusted to an extent or would even go out of his way to help children because he still has morals.
