as you can see the so called ''Emperor of Mankind'' aka Stupid Cunt is absolutely retarded just like his Imperium and you should help Alpha Legion to tear it the fuck down if you're not a marine fear not Legion uses a lot of mortal spies and saboteurs and the pay is much better than anything you could imagine in those fucking slave camps that pass for factories in imperial shitholes

Religion isn't bad because of Crusades, religion is bad because it promotes superstitious thinking which empowered Chaos. The Emperor never had a problem with genocide or ethnic cleansing.

Cuts the balls

Hey /tg/!

I'm going to be running a session of Paranoia and I need ideas for mysterious R&D items to hand out to the PCs. Ideally they should be useful when it works properly, but be confusing as fuck to do so.

>The Problem Solver
A dumbbell shaped instrument with a trigger button on the handle. Can be thrown. Trigger has an n-second delay which R&D can illustrate with fun acoustic messages like "Solution in 3... 2... 1..." The two tanks will then mix and explode, creating a dense foam which is aggressively acidic and hardens into a still reactive concrete within 30 seconds. This block will then proceed to dissolve anything it touches and itself to a murky slush within the next 3 hours. Materials of higher security clearance are not affected.

>Fun Dispenser
Hand sized reservoir of diverse psychopharmaceutical enhancers. Integrated sensory suite analyzes citizen subject and then dispenses a colorful (not security relevant) pill custom tailored to the situation. This consideration includes the subject's current health and happiness, the general mood of the team, randomly inserted experimental studies from Friend Computer, poetic justice, and some say pranks by R&D. Effects are usually limited to happiness (5 in 6) but may include severe paranoia, claustrophobia, sudden diarrhea, inability to speak words longer than 1 syllable, or exploding head. Refusing a custom tailored pill is treason.

>The MacGuffin
A 200 lbs cube of metal without handles, "Fragile" written on the side and "This side up" written on top and bottom. All equipment must be returned to R&D in pristine condition upon conclusion of the mission.

Leaving aside the awesomeness of rocket boots, the laser helmet was one of more favorite items. It's simply a helmet with a hands-free laser weapon built right in. It locks into place and can't be removed (the R&D folks don't want you taking it off and compromising their trial or maybe even losing or damaging the thing). The trigger mechanism is simple: it fires whenever you give a quick blink (a slower blink does not activate it). The problem is that most involuntary blinks set it off, causing the troubleshooter to blast whatever he's looking at. There is, however, a safety on the helmet, but it's not immediately obvious (you have to really feel around for it) and it doesn't work properly. If the safety is engaged and you blink, instead of firing the laser, the helmet begins to overheat rather dramatically. The first time merely makes the helmet uncomfortably hot, but if it hasn't cooled down by the time you blink again, the top of the helmet will catch on fire. Fortunately, the rest of the helmet will shield you from this fire, but walking around with your head on fire tends to make you a target. A third blink will burn through the safety and fuse the trigger mechanism in such a way that the helmet will fire whenever you *don't* blink every second or so. This will also cause alarm klaxons to engage until the unit is repaired.

I just did some math (which is arguably worse than meth). Before you get your arithmetic boners twisted, note that I did round up all the numbers and that I may or may not have sucked at math back in High School.

In D&D, average unskilled laborer (AUL) gets a single gold piece per month.
Using this site ( http://eh.net/database/unskilled-wage-index-u-s/ ) we can see that current (2008) AUL has the monthly wage of 1425$. So let's say 1gp = 1425$.
By using this list ( http://www.therichest.com/rich-list/world/top-10-people-with-the-highest-salaries-in-the-world/?view=all ) we can say that average monthly income of Tim Cook, CEO and Business Exec. of Apple, is 31,499,711$.
That would mean the highest paid person in our world would get 22105gp per month.

JUST 22105gp.

How does this make you feel? And to all you PCs only motivated by wealth, why didn't you fuck off after the first dungeon crawl?

I hold that gold is actually worthless in my game, and has a value determined completely by guild fiat.

Or that 'gold piece' is actually paper money with a PICTURE of a gold piece on it.

What your autistic mind is ignoring is that prices in D&D are for game balance and are not a reflection of reality. Everyone who's not you has already figured this out.

Let's write a fun and lighthearted low level adventure together /tg/, which may or may not is absolutely okey with the players being a pack of murderhobos, since they will end up being fucking murderhobos anyway, just like always.. Gotta love my group. I'll start:
>You are part of the irregular army of the prospering city of Ridvan. Your unit, being known for its lack of discipline, yet a quick and brutal solution to ever occurring threats like raiding orc bands and thieves, is tasked with tracking down a pack of goblins who seem to cause trouble to the local farmers and to make sure they won't steal anymore sheeps.

Have a shared goal; if she wants to rule the Kingdom, you want the current King dead. Her taking over is a matter of no consequence.

Work towards your goal. Don't work for her, don't even actively work with her. Just accomplish your goal that coincidentally serves to hasten her own success. She will come to you.

And that's when you decide yeah, you don't mind loaning her some troops, sharing some info and taking out the occasional VIP. But you never bend the knee. You just carry on carrying on, and generally don't cause her problems.

Eventually this constant string of being totally on her side but neither beneath her nor competing for her will drive her crazy. She'll either be driven to an insatiable need to kill you or a similar need to fuck you. It is possible she might have both.

If she decides she *only* wants you dead, have your sleeper agents in her army fuck her forces over and then leave the country for a few years. When you come back she'll be ready for another go and you can see if anything's changed.

Often, things will look much better after a good night's sleep. Often, but not always.

You could sleep for a thousand years, for example, and you'd still wake up to the fact that Miura was kidnapped – and almost murdered – by one of your own. An apprentice, recently reported missing from the Nameless Temple only to surface as part of some fanatical conspiracy. Now, after his death at Musari's hands, you'll never get the chance to ask him why. There was something there, some reason for that moment of hesitation you saw – and you'll never know what it was.

Could it have been as simple as fear? He claimed that he was prepared to die for his cause, but such claims often falter when the time to put them to the test finally comes. You know that dwelling on it will do you no good, but still the thoughts return to haunt you. It's not that you blame Musari for the boy's death, but...

But you don't have the chance to finish that thought. With his face set in a grim mask, Tawn slides into the seat opposite you.

“Quite the difficult situation we find ourselves in,” he says, by way of introduction, “Wouldn't you say?”

Difficult, you ask cautiously, in what way? Difficult to accept, or difficult to salvage something from?

“Both, probably,” Tawn frowns, “Listen Ira, I won't mince my words – this situation isn't going to reflect well on the Nameless Temple. One of your apprentices, collaborating with army deserters in order to carry out some unknown plan? The Emperor will, at the very least, order an investigation. I would expect, as well, more covert attempts at studying the temple. Spies, in other words, or bribes paid to anyone willing to talk.”

It makes sense. You could rant and rave all day at the injustice of it – you can hardly be blamed, after all, when the apprentice in question was kidnapped – but it wouldn't do any good. Best to focus on what can be done. Namely, why is Tawn mentioning this now?

“Because...” Tawn hesitates, duty warring with something more personal inside him, “Because the Emperor can only order an investigation if he has a reason to. If this apprentice never made it into my report, the issue would be settled, wouldn't it? A gang of army deserters kidnapping a priestess with the aim of holding her ransom – I think the story would take, don't you?”

Perhaps, you admit, but is he really willing to lie on his official reports like that?

“Honestly? I don't like the idea much. That said, I think I owe you this one,” he pauses again, holding up a single finger, “And I said “one” for a reason. If this happens again, I won't be able to keep it under wraps. Of course, if you think the Emperor should know the truth, this is all hypothetical. What, then, do you say?”

Better that the truth comes out now than if we try and hide it.

Favorite way to make Paladins fall? My personal fav is the old beggar trick: Have the pally in question pass by a lowly beggar, if he refuses to stop and help him - he falls. If he does stop and help him he falls because I make the beggar an evil alignment so he willfully aids evil.

I've had to do this shit so many times to balance the early game phase of my campaigns

Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/johnwickpresents/7th-sea-second-edition/comments

It's the last few days of what has now become, by a vast margin, the most successful tabletop game related kickstarter of all time.

Topics for discussion:

*The quickstart rules, attached.

*Consensus on the Kickstarter page itself is slowly turning towards "the 2nd edition rules are bad, we're going to ignore them". Appropriately enough, Wick ignores the numerous complaints while graciously thanking for the few compliments.

*The final sourcebook type stretch goal has been revealed: the Secret Societies Sourcebook, at 1,000,000 dollars. It is unknown what stretch goals would follow, though it seems almost certain some would since it is almost guaranteed that 1,000,000 dollars would be reached and Wick would want people to be at their absolutely most motivated for the last day, which is traditionally among the most profitable in a kickstarter.

* There would not be a Cathay/Far East sourcebook. Instead, in 2017 Wick will open another kickstarter, this time for a whole new "7th Sea: Far East" line with its own core book and nation supplements. You got to love his reasoning for this: the far east just has too many cultures, and they're all too deep and interesting to do justice with just one book! Africa and both Americas? Bah! what's even there? Brown people? They didn't even invent samurais!

* For shit and giggles, here are two links to John Wick's blog, in which he talks (in his usual, overly verbose fashion) about what he claims are the best and worst RPG adventures of all time, showing the same old lack of self-awareness and rabid self-aggrandizement we've come to love to hate:

It will be most interresting to see if the rules change before the final version (presumably, Wick isn't the only one listening). Not that it really matters, I'm increasingly in this only for the lore (and the maps).
>>
>>45877467
It's likely they will, but not to the degree most people would like. However Wick goes about this it's virtually certain by now that the final rules would still be a narrative, overly abstract mess supported by shaky mathematics.

Then one day you hear that your legion went traitor. You are likely to find this out when some "Loyalist Chapter" of Adeptus Astartes arrives and attacks you and the 9 other Iron warriors on the planet.

Has anyone ever played this before? I absolutely love how a post-Peter Jackson LOTR rpg isn't solely dominated by the vision of the movies.

I'm really interested in overland travel, as the journey is far more important than the destination. As far as I have ascertained, travel hexes have two values, movement hindrance & hazard DC.

Each players are assigned a role (such as Scout, Guide, Hunter, Look-out, etc) whether as a class skill or willfully volunteering for the role, the players then all roll a d12, a one (or Sauron) means that the players encounter a hazard, what hazard the party deals with depends on who rolls it.

So if a Look-out rolled it, a hazard could be that the party is beset by hungry man, or if a hunter rolled it, it could be a quarry that is in pursuit of two parties, once killed it could cause tensions between both bands. Is the difficulty of these challenges is predicated upon the territory challenge?

I like this because so many "hexploration" mechanics are so mired in simple binary logic of YES and NO, obviously hazards should be avoided, but it's a cool example of the abstract lending itself to roleplaying.

I've never had the chance to play it (though I own most of the books), but The One Ring seems like the kind of thing I would bring to a game-design class - or something like that, at least - about how to make your game truly embrace the thing its trying to emulate or explore; In this case, middle earth - a setting where your ability to riddle is many-times more important that your ability to swing a sword harder than the other guy.

It also has some fantastic artwork.

Does your PC have an accent or a special way they speak?

This is especially relevant for my fellow LARPers out there, but it applies for tabletop games as well assuming you actually bother to speak in-character at the table.

-Post voice samples of your PC.
-Critique other voice samples.
-If someone is trying out an accent, tell them it's shit or maybe give them some advice
-Share stories about players over the years who've had really awful or notably good accents.

http://vocaroo.com/delete/s1LxUg67CcN2/dceb4856bc9856f2

I am an American living near New York City and I've been playing a character for about 3 years at a LARP who is supposed to speak with an Irish accent. There are actually a lot of races at this game who have required accents. The people who wrote the game's world in their infinite wisdom decided to create two races who are almost identical except one speaks with an Irish accent and the other with a Scottish accent. Most Americans are terrible with foreign accents to begin with, and as a consequence we get a lot of players just kinda mashing the two together into a ridiculous mess.

There are people who've been playing the same character for over a decade who roll their R's like in an exaggerated Scottish accent while trying to do a Irish accent and it drives me absolutely bonkers.

Related to the OP, how do you feel about people using modern vernacular in fantasy settings? This came up while talking to some of my fellow LARPers the other day. We were bashing another local game because they allowed players to swear and curse all they wanted and it resulted in the bulk of their player base saying things like:

>"We're gonna go over there and fuck up those goblins! Fuck yea!"

We find that to be pretty darn jarring and pulls us out of the game.
>>
>>45876266
Do you speak old English or Elvish fluently? With a full grasp of syntax and references to your settings fantasy pop culture?

If not use your everyday vocabulary
>>
>>45876303
In this particular game you are required to use certain accents to play certain races, similar to costuming requirements. The game's executive committee has even told players to STOP using accents that aren't included in the game's rules. For example one player decided he wanted his Southern Barbarian to speak like a Southern gentleman as if he were Clark Gable in Gone with the Wind or something. He was told to stop.

In general, though, I agree with you.
