Is it okay for a player to base a character off of media if it's not pop culture?
I just had a player submit "Peer Gynt" for approval.

Yes, it is.
>Is it okay to literally copy-paste an entire character, without so much as changing the name?
No, it is not.

Who?
Is this thing worth snagging amidst all of the hype? Its good, but I dont think its worth $20 a pop. Its not like you can win the game off of the back of this thing. I need it for a standard brew, and Im afraid this may be another Jace, Vryns Prodidy scenario all over again. Thoughts

I make a point of not buying into hype.
I sell into hype, but never buy.

This legit had me worried. I want at least one foredh, but I feel like this will see standard play because Husk/Fleshbag are sticking around for another rotation. Hell, it might see modern play.
I wonder if the zombie tribal in SoI will be enough to get Undead Servant to see constructed play.
>This is a quest taking place in an alternate version of the Naruto world during the same time period as the story, with a few notable differences. You will be playing as Kon Karagowa, a young Leaf Jonin. Your character is defined by your choices, so write-ins are always encouraged. And remember to have fun!

Your name is Kane Gerric - a Miralukan lad with an untapped power, a pair of blaster pistols and a very dangerous goal.
Fifteen years ago, you were born into dire poverty.
Fifteen minutes ago, you savaged two street thugs.
Five minutes ago, you decided to rob the richest man on the planet.

The setting sun cast a rosy glow over the grey and dusty streets. The silvered facade of Jeergan Kal's tower was bloodied, the breathtaking structure taking on a malevolent glare.

So I'm starting to think a little more about how I want to handle combat and skill checks. I'm thinking that I'd like to run some sort of system with multiple dice. Would you guys be okay with a system that uses best of, average of and worst of depending on situation?
I'd also like to keep increasing the size and number of force dice you can roll when you get stronger (you've currently got 1d10)
How does that sound?
Gather 'round, all ye hero's both great and small, for I hereby call to order yet another important meeting of the world renowned Adventurers Guild! Friends, I come to you all today bearing bad news! Recently, a study published by the both the Mages' Guild, and the Guild of Eternal Love and Nature, has recently discovered that the kingdom's Goblin population is currently on the decline, with 106 of the local 237 goblin tribes having been completely wiped out within the last month! Now normally I would call forth a great guild feast to celebrate such joyous...

Well, In my opinion, I feel that we should do the sensible thing, and simply ride this out. Let the goblins rebuild for a few weeks, and wait for all the requests to start flooding in.

Great, I sigh as I look up at the now dark grey and flowing clouds running through the sky, it's starting to rain. I shake my head and lift my cap up as Ochamu looks down at me, looking worried and a bit nervous as Yotshi tries to fix my arm up a bit better than I did myself
"Stop touching it so much" I whine, as more burning pain digs its way into my arm like a bunch of worms in an apple...

Assuming that you agree with Star Wars being a fantasy story in a scifi trapping, wouldn't you say the same about Dune?
>jihadists
>people banning self-aware computers
>tons of political bullshit
>women-power movement / sect
>corporation monopolizing vital services
sound modern-day to me, fampai
No.
People call Star Wars Science Fantasy because it is your basic fantasy story in space complete with magic and knights.
Dune has fantastical elements to be sure but also has a complex and thought out world with plausible science.
>>45885518
Yeah, why not?
I mean, it's science is about as hard as pudding, and there's a fair bit of mysticism and psychic randomness tossed in.
I don't really see how reclassifying it would change anything though.
Filling out a Dungeons and Dragons character sheet is literally 2 hours of banal busywork before you get to anything resembling actual gameplay. As a working adult, 2 hours of my time is worth over fifty dollars. Each and every character I make costs me a FIFTY FUCKING DOLLARS.
>>45885117
Opportunity costs imply you would be spending that time to work, but people don't usually fill out their character sheets while they're supposed to be on the clock.
Realistically, your opportunity cost would be something closer to watching television orshitposting on 4chan.
>>45885117
It only takes that long if you have no idea what you're doing and need help. If you know what you're doing it can take just a few minutes (depending on edition and starting level).
>>45885206
This desu, senpai.
OPs lack of understanding of basic macroeconomics makes me question who would pay him/her $25 to work.
The first contact after years and years finally happens.
And what is more, the aliens seems to be both friendly and with good intentions.
Still, as we meet them we quickly learn that they are -by a wide margin- 'superior' to us in all fields except the physical one (whenever it's being tougher, stronger or whatever).
>How would this affect the relationship between this alien specie and humans, assuming the aliens aren't minding us at all or our differences?
>How would our culture change?...

Within a year or two, the entire world becomes focused on that single thing we're really good at, our whole culture centering on it and how you aren't worth anyone's while if you can't do it well, disdain towards aliens for not being able to do it, all of it masking an incredibly dark and deep inferiority complex that may or may not eventually result in a desperate war against the aliens.

Short answer: you can't
Tome of awesome supplement had an okay monk.
I'm trying to generate a range of 1-7 for attributes for a game.
What would be better, rolling 1d6+1 (which skews upwards a bit) or 2d4-1 (which bell curves around an average)?
This is a scifi game with average people as protagonists, so I generally want average attribute stats for PCs, but nobody likes getting gimped PCs with 1s in their stats either.
>>45882404
How much the stats matter - that is, is there a significant difference between 4 and 5?
Most games with "average people" PCs generally tend to skew things up just a tad to avoid gimpy characters. They're still well within average, just the upper end of it.

>>45881671
It's a solid card if you have variety in your deck. By turn 4 you've probably played a fetchland, a sorcery, an instant, and a creature. There's a pretty good chance that there will be enough card types for it to be effective.
