I am looking to get Linux for my MacBook (inb4 macfag); however, I'm not sure what will happen. I'm not very educated when it comes to computers and their inner machinations. I heard there are different distros (themes? of Linux) that offer different things. I'm tired of OSX and making this purchase; kind of turning my laptop into something else by doing this. What I'm wondering is what will happen to all my data on this operating system/user/whatever. What are some good distros and do you have any tips for a macfag switching over to Linux? what will I expect? what should I prepare for?

As far as I know, you need to have a thumb drive if you want to transfer files from osx to Linux. Everything will br deleted from osx unless you wish to still have both OSes on your mac

I'm a city police officer (Canada) and I do not consider myself a wageslave. I make 92,000/yr as a base salary and I'm a 4th year constable. Not including overtime, which there is a lot available of. I also work 4 days and get 4 off, so I have a lot of time to do stuff.
